I haven't played in a while, but I always name my viruses the name of the symptoms I like, so something with Mind Restoration will be 'MR'. In the end, the virus names should only make sense to you before you release it, either something that makes sense to everyone for a Good Virologist, but if you're being evil as an Antag you could probably name it something funny or confusing to throw everyone off for abit.

Yup, you have to manually print a backup and keep it in the fridge though, the machine won't save it for you
