Hubby and I are booked on the #1 train in March 25. Prestige all the way and hoping, as we are from Australia, to see snow for the first time in our 50 odd years. Thanks for the tips.

@@judimiles3522 Thanks for watching. Prestige will be very very nice. You get very nice rooms but still experience the old time train travel across Canada in cars made in the 1950’s. You will definitely see plenty of snow. Myself and my wife are catching the train from Vancouver to Ottawa on our way back home to Newfoundland in a few days.
Check out this video from our stop in Jasper. You will see Whistler’s Peak on your left just after departing Jasper.
I have a few short videos from the top of Lake Louise while skiing last February. You should see some nice views of snow capped mountains.

Great tips! Thank you for making this video and your other on-board videos. Taking the Canadian in Pretige class has been on my bucket list for 10 years (since they first announced the new class really). Didn't know if i would ever be able to afford it but finally at a place where I felt i could splurge. Travelling from Vancouver to Toronto with my wife on March 21 and so looking forward to it! I watched so many TH-cam videos including yours and was so excited. Everything was awesome until a train wreck in Saskatchewan and then we were bused to Winnipeg for over six hours and had to make our own way to Toronto. It was traumatic but I want to think I can do it right the next time. I feel like I don’t want my memories to be unfulfilled. Unforeseen occurrence. Makes me sad remembering how excited I was. Such is life. No control. Ugh!

@@MP-uc1cz OMG what a nightmare situation. That’s my greatest fear about the trip. If a train derails or major weather event or forest fire strands the train in the middle of nowhere.

      WOW!!!!!
I was on that same train with my brother.
FSL Car 11 Seat 3-P1 and he was across the hall from me.
Stranded in Melville and then that horrible bus ride to Winnipeg. I must give credit to the VIA staff however, Shout out to Keisha and Courtney who went above and beyond their duties while forced to work overtime in this stressful situation. They and the rest of the staff were amazing during this unexpected turn of events.
Condolences to the truck driver and his family who lost his life in the accident.
Up until this unfortunate incident, it was an amazing experience with great food, beer tasting and wine tasting, breathtaking scenery, and entertainment provided by a Canadian Juno award winning blues guitarist, Morgan Davis who was amazingly entertaining with his unique style of story telling mixed with his musical talent.
I'm flying to Vancouver from Toronto on Dec 20th to redo this trip in it's entirety because it was such an amazing experience until the incident.
      See you Dec 20.

GREAT tips! We've enjoyed all of your videos on the Canadian. We live in Vancouver and have driven across Canada, including visiting your beautiful Province, and wanted to see some of our Canadian landscapes from the train so we just booked Train #1 from Toronto to Vancouver in October/25, hopefully to see the Fall colours. 10:35. A valuable "insider" tip if you are booking the popular Bedroom for 2. Speak to VIA Reservations early to secure room "F"; no extra charge for this larger room.

Very Good Point. Thanks so much for mentioning this. That’s what I did for my upcoming fall trip. I called VIA Reservations the day they posted the trip date I was looking for and booked Room F in the car number I wanted.

@@AdventuresWithTodd When Budd's designers were configuring the "Manor" class sleepers as per Canadian Pacific's specifications, there was almost 2 extra feet of length left over so it just added on to a bedroom. CPR referred to this room F as a "Compartment", which is somewhat confusing to us as we associate that term to an older European-style shared rooms for coach passengers. There is evidence to suggest that originally there were three folding armchairs present rather than two. This distinction later fell by the wayside but for a period of time in the 1990s after the HEP rebuilding, VIA ticketed "F" as a "Master Bedroom", with a premium over standard bedroom. Again this distinction is gone so it is an insider or railfan's knowledge that will ask the ticket agent to book this room, rather than online.
Also, for the "Renaissance" sleepers on the Ocean, all bedrooms are double bunks but rooms 1 to 6 have a shower head in its washroom while 7 to 10 don't. And it appears that VIA no longer makes a fare distinction between the two types.
However, on HEP car open berth sections, there is a distinct difference between upper and lower berth fares.

Thank you for putting this together. It is of great help to those unfamiliar with the Canadian. Regarding the shower kits, it has been many years since there has been a facecloth in the bags I have had. We will visit the Park car once and respect that the Prestige people are paying a lot for their privileged position. Starting at Toronto, we will get off in Jasper to board the Rocky Mountaineer for the rest of the journey to Vancouver. This time we will splurge on Gold class ($$$$).

I really liked the berths. Both trips there were only two berths occupied. First trip was with my son. We called the sections our three bed two bath condo lol. Second trip it was just myself and one other person.
Up to two days prior to departure I was the only one in Car 216, the last sleeper car on my train just ahead of the Skyline and Dining Car. A man from Australia travelling the county booked it two prior to departure.

@@AdventuresWithTodd My only other VIA trip out West was 30 years ago, a coach ticket on CanRailPass. With an upgrade to an upper berth (cheapest, obviously) in sleeping car for the 2nd of the then-three night trip (Winnipeg to Edmonton). Experienced the privilege of witnessing the prairie sunset from the Park car dome. Returned to the coach section for the mountain crossing while my new friends there were jealous that I had a good night's lay-flat sleep and luxury of taking a shower at the trip's mid-point. (No dinner in the diner, not included with fare at that time. I bought all my meals in the Skyline Café section of coach).
In 2007 I was just itchin to get on the train again so I took a round trip on the Chaleur (now gone). Arriving there in roomette, but the return trip they were all booked so I choose Lower Berth, and experienced the widest bed one could book on the train.
Other overnight trips in the 90s were a circle trip to Halifax on the Atlantic and the Ocean in roomette, a second one way trip on the Ocean, and a trip Montreal to Toronto in a bedroom for 2 shared with a friend on the corridor overnight train.
