another helpful thing to think about when comparing the rash of dermatomyositis vs SLE is that with SLE the rash tends to spare the nasolabial fold.

This is the most helpful thing I've found yet about Dermatomyositis. However, I was surprised to see here that onset is ages 40-50, since I was diagnosed at age 6. At the time (1975), I was told there were only 3 of us in Canada with Dermatomyositis, and all 3 of us were children. I have been in remission since 1978.

Shannon , even I was surprised as my friend’s daughter was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis at the age of 4. It started with muscle weakness & now after heavy dosage of steroid medications, she is now fully bedridden with extreme side effects .. I know it might be personal but can I know how you managed to put this in remission since be 1978

@@rebelz0708 I wish I could answer that for you. All I know is I spent 6 wks in the hospital at the time (severe muscle weakness), took high doses of Cortisone for about 2 years, and did lots of physical therapy. I was only 6 when diagnosed, so I don't know much more than that. I know that Drs are always surprised by me. I hope that your friend's little girl can get better.

General signs and symptoms of myopathy include the following:👍
    Symmetric proximal muscle weakness.
    Malaise, fatigue.
Dark-colored urine (suggests myoglobinuria) and/or fever.
Absence of sensory complaints or paresthesias; however, deep tendon reflexes (DTRs) may be diminished/absent in hypokalemic paralysis.

Hello, this might be the best video ive seen on this topic, thank you. My mother has polymyositis for about year and a half. Shes 59, it all started almost 2 years after she lost her brother, could it be the starter? she also started smoking from that time...
She had prednisone prescribed, and after a year she finally feels better. Is it possible to get rid of Polymyositis? To be fully cured?

LDr. Thank you for the clear information. I will start medical treatment in the hospital from tomorrow, lasting for 3 months. As you mentioned, the doctors were very concerned about the function of my lungs and heart, but it turns out there are no issues now. My face turned red, as you described, beginning when I returned from a business trip in India, where the sun was extremely strong and the temperature was around 39 - 40 degrees Celsius. That’s when the skin darkening and rash started. Since December, I’ve been experiencing extreme muscle pain with symptoms similar to those described in your video. Thank you for the detailed and useful information.
