One of the online comments - with 142 likes - read "Whenever I see the anchor, I can just simply visualize how Shurpankha must have looked in Ramayana." I don't think that those who gave the 'thumbs up' were interpreting Shurpankha as a powerful, complex, mis-understood, and nuanced character as she is described in this conversation above. To me this kind of referencing is a clear indication of how much female mythological characters continue to have a strong influence on how women are still seen (by men and other women and ourselves), and why the work the work of the thoughtful women in this BLF session is so important, for the wholeness of us all!
