I recently watched a utube conversation between Devdutt Pattanaik and Shoma Chaudhury (see Devdutt Pattanaik decodes the Hanuman Chalisa and leadership approaches of Indira, Shiva and Vishnu). One of the online comments - with 142 likes - read "Whenever I see the anchor, I can just simply visualize how Shurpankha must have looked in Ramayana." I don't think that those who gave the 'thumbs up' were interpreting Shurpankha as a powerful, complex, mis-understood, and nuanced character as she is described in this conversation above. To me this kind of referencing is a clear indication of how much female mythological characters continue to have a strong influence on how women are still seen (by men and other women and ourselves), and why the work the work of the thoughtful women in this BLF session is so important, for the wholeness of us all!

Ira Mukhoty keeps trying to make Sita look like an imagined character and not a real person. Kane avoids it. Why bring in brahminical interpretation in the cinversation? Why should we associate brahminism with negativity. Why do writers have to be annoyingly leftist and so divisive and hateful.
