    I've been the gate keeper of my 69 Z/28 since sept.74. Got the car when a was 19, 68 now and still drive the car. Out lasted 3 females that I had in my life.

    I bought a new 69 z28 in LA in August of 69. Had Felix Chevrolet install a 4.56 gear and 140 cam in it before original delivery. I got it home and put on a set of headers. Car ran 12.80s spinning an old set of 'M&H slicks I borrowed from a buddy. Most fun car I've ever had. My buddy bought the 70 RS/Z28 and he did the same thing with the same 140 cam and headers. His car went 12.40s with 4.10 gears. Those were the days.

    My wife had a 68 it was so hot, so was she, loved both , and still have her.

    You could get one in Honolulu for $4,200 , but it was too expensive for me , so I ended up with a 396 C.I. 350 H.P. Nova that cost me $3,750 .

    14.90 1/4 bull slightly tuned plus headers 3.73 gears guys were running low 13 s mine 12.90 big blocks got me out of the hole some times but while they only top out power done at 6000 rpms i out ran them pulling power up to 7500 rpms,only 440 magnums came close

    I read that to be considered a "Factory Production Line" model at least 1,000 needed to be produced and that 1,009 actually were produced of the '67 Z/28 not 600. The 327 used was basically a fuel-injected Corvette engine with the fuel-injection system replaced by an aluminum intake with a large Holley 4 barrel carb (possibly a 750 or 780 double pumper I cannot recall) the crank from a 283 that was installed was a forged steel crank. They were wild!!! When I came home from the Army I bought one of the '70 1/2 Z/28 Camaros with a 350cid, supposed to be 360 HP, it had 11:1 aluminum pistons, Holley 780, 371 Limited Slip Differential, 4 speed... but it wasn't as hot as the '67-'69 in 302. I sold it in the mid '70s when the gas went to $0.50 a gallon. :)

    Me 1987"Dad, I found a 1969 Z/28 for $900,just needs the engine rebuilt" My Dad"Why the hell would you give $900 for a car with the engine in boxes/pieces?" Me 2021 watching a Z/28 cross the auction block for $74,000.

    My neighbor bought a new Z28 in `69, it had the cross-ram intake and 4.56 gears....that thing ran like a scalded cat !

      those gears pulling the high rpms that z must of kicked ass,must of been a fun wild ride glad you felt how awesome 302 weres

      Well he must of had the crossram installed, because it didn't come from the factory like that. That being said YES, those f in cars were and still are fast, very fast!

    True horse power is 390+ not 290.hp. which was for insurance purposes only. Sounds more realistic..

    I remembered two 69z28s one with a single 4brl and the other with a duel 4 on a cross ram. Was the 2x4 an option and was their any difference in hp rating and performance? Any info would be appreciated.

      Well Art is not completely right. And he didn't really answer your question as far as the HP increase. The crossram setup was an over the counter option, it was never available when ordering a Z28, as Art eluded to. GM referred to it as "heavy duty " equipment. In addition to the intake and the 2 Holley 650 double pumpers, you also had to install heavy duty gm racing springs, along with one of the off road racing cams. Obviously there was linkage, fuel lines , and a new gas pedal. These cars topped out at 465+ horsepower up from the 400 factory hp. GM had the engine without the crossram setup rated at 290hp to appease the insurance company. A stock 302 at 403 hp with optional factory headers,as confirmed by the Camaro research group. These cars are high revving and fast over 3200 rpm..The Crossram Z28'S WON the SCCA TransAm races in 68 AND 69,beating the ford mustang. It was NOT too much carberation for the engine if properly setup. Many people who did purchase it, just didn't know how to set it up, thus a a lot of folks were frustrated with the unit. There really not set up for the quarter mile, but can be!       I had one, I can confirm 450 hp with headers and "off road cam". I took it off and sold it (for big money) and went back to the duntov 30/30 cam and single 780 ( I had all the original pieces). Much more fun to drive on the street that way. The motor makes almost no torque under 4500 RPM with the race setup. I estimate power to be closer to 370 with the stock setup. And the carbs were smaller than 650's I do not recall the exact size.

      You probably never drove an original 302 Z28, The only 396 that had REAL BALLS from the factory was the L78 motor, and not many exsisted... Now if in you want to add a bunch of goodies to the others, THEN, youd be talking..

      @cv 67 yep, it wasn't, but it was because it wasn't "setup " as a quarter mile race car, it was built and designed for SCCA road racing. With the right setup they can be very competitive.
