      TOT, in the VFD you can convert the frequency into rpm if you want to for readings on the VFD display.
      It is also possible to use an analog output (0-10VDC or 4-20 mA DC) for an extern segment display, it's not that hard to do.

    Saw some other people giving their stories of you changed their life, thought I'd share mine. Old and washed up now. Always wanted to be an engineer but trade school to fix cars was the closest I got. That allowed me to dabble, brake rotors mostly. Although I was an A.S.E. certified master engine machinist, I never stepped foot inside a machine shop. Now I'm just trying to survive and I can't express to you how much comfort your videos have given me over the years. Never thought I'd feel this good again and am now starting to think maybe, just maybe there might still be enough life left in me to have another run at it.
    I know I pissed a lot of people off, probably you, with my comments on the whole brake rotor causing a squishy pedal thing. I guess I just got exited because it is in fact something I know exactly how and why it happens and how to diagnose it. Then again everyone in the TH-cam comments is an expert at everything and needing to feel smart is a character flaw. So I'm sorry.

      as far as I know, TH-cam's monetization policy references local zero by footage rather than the final video, which would result in negative revenue. As for someone foolish enough to try and fiddle with the timestamps on their footage... I don't know what they do to them, and to be fair, I don't want to know. I knew about two guys who tried this, and shortly after they just disappeared along with their channels. My memory of them gets fainter by every day that comes, and I can't even remember their names by now. Maybe there were more, but those ceased to exist completely.

In college I used my knowledge from 3d printers along with my previous design work to build a cnc foam cutter for a professor, and that was fun.

      Janne Kokko, Me too! Now whilst I tinker on a Bridgeport I’m nowhere near TOT league but just want to say on here that, could it also have been the direction of travel (cut depth aside) I see almost all machining videos on TH-cam feeding in the wrong direction relative to the spinning cutter. (Just my opinion) Surely you travel against the rotation, not with it. If these people ever use a table saw do they stand on the side the blade is rising out of the table and try holding onto their piece before the blade takes too big a bite of it. Surely this happens too with steel machining. Plus instead of throwing your chips out the front, you have to first drag them past your cut edge to throw out the back.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@grumpyone5963 You sound like you're too uninformed to be saying "almost all" machining videos are wrong. Usually, when "almost all" are doing something different to how you're doing it, your way is the wrong way. (Keyword: usually) Considering you didn't know the terms "climb" and "conventional," I'll assume you know nothing about machining. (Look them up.) So, the general rule is that you climb cut on CNC and conventional cut on manual machines. There are a million intricacies and exceptions to the rule, but that's pretty much the way it goes. It is not possible to climb mill on a manual machine (driven by acme/square/trapezoidal lead screws). CNC machines are able to do it because their methods of translating the axes are free of backlash. Also, the tool break the op was referencing didn't have hardly anything to do with "no cutting fluid" as it was WAY too much tool length for that cut. Cutting fluid would have made no difference. Notice he switched to a shorter EM and kept the same axial DOC (after he faced it, it went back to the longer axial DOC), and it shredded that heart shape perfectly fine, without cutting fluid.

    GREAT VIDEO !!! I love how the belts help eliminate the stepper noise. Also might wanna change the tool path to a counter clockwise path for machining around outside of heart and then a clockwise tool path for machining inside the heart. Always make sure the clockwise spinning cutter is throwing swarf out of work instead of ramming chips into work. -helps eliminate chatter and tool breakage. The only time you don't have a choice is when cutting a slot and thats when you gotta take it slow. Also please put an accordion skirt over those virgin ball screws before its too late !!!

    Americans actually use rpm? Isn't rounds per minute to logical? Wouldn't something like 3/8 rounds per 1/4 footsecond be more your style? 🙈

      RPM is a very imperial unit. I dunno why the metric countries use it. The metric units are revolutions per second (Hz) and radians per second.
      Likewise, i consider all units that contain minutes and hours, imperial. (I'm looking at you, kph!) Minutes and hours are imperial in their nature. Oh, and degrees (as in angles) are very imperial too.

    • @sthenzel
      @sthenzel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@victortitov1740 All machines, engines and motors I encountered here in Europe have their rpm in exactly that - rpm. Or , here in Germany, in U/min. Seconds you´ll find in electromagnetic or acoustic frequencies. All just like in the imperial world.

      Don't let the excitement of cnc get you. Meaning master the manual machines first. You will be lightyears ahead of the button pushers when it comes to set ups and being able to run many machines then you can add programming later. Besides you will know how to properly set up the job and program it. Good luck.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^ yes, what Matthew said. People that start on CNC machines without going through manual first, never understand machining very well. They don't understand the forces, don't understand the directions of the forces, and just don't get the fundamentals of what's going on at the actual cut. It's like when a company hires a new manager from outside the company, rather than promoting from within. They never understand the landscape of that business's dynamic. They don't know the employees, don't know how they do things, don't know their culture and conventions, and usually end up being disliked because they "just don't get it." It'd be like going directly to driving an F1 car without having ever been behind the wheel of any other car whatsoever. F1 drivers start driving go karts at a very young age (usually around 5 years old), then they start racing go karts, then drive/race progressively faster go karts as they get older, then they get their drivers license at 16, then drive in beginner car races, and work up to F1. Even a few months starting on manual machines will put you leaps and bounds above people that started directly on CNC. After your first year, you'll be a far better machinist than them, even though you have a few months less machining experience. I know you don't have any say on the curriculum at the college, but if you do have a choice, go that route.
