Love Marantz, I have two, a 2220B and a 2265B, your receiver's awesome!, I had a friend (R.I.P.) and he had a monster Marantz also, it was the earlier gen. with the dark screen, it was so powerful that it shook his house, then you would look at the receiver and notice the volume was only turn up a quarter of the way. Kudos on your taste of music

I've in my collection a sansui 8080db, Sony str 7055 in mint condition, marantz 2015, hk 630 twinpowered and my favorite the sx 850. With Sony ss g1, canton ct800 and the canton karat 40. My daily used set is my sx850 with karat 40. It's a receiver from an acquaintance of mine and was in maintenance. I think it not worth the high price and is too heavy.

I owned the 2385 for a decade. What a monster! At 4 ohms the speakers would stun small animals.
Speaker sentivity makes more of a difference than power does. For example, 100 watts thru speakers with 89 dB sensitivity would sound equally as loud to an average person, as 10 watts thru speakers with 99 dB sensitivity. So simply by changing speakers, "90 watts" of effective power can be gained or lost. Pink noise for example to be "fair", but likely true/accurate for regular music too.
So glad to see a youngster playing with vintage kit listening to decent music instead of a playstation. I remember playing with the knobs on the receiver in my childhood home, took me back and put a smile on my face. Good on you little dude and enjoy! I noticed the soldering iron on the table. Knowing kids today, he is probably in the process of restoring this old jewel. Keep googling and keep going man!
I always prefer to have units with blue lightening without the wooden case, just the metal. But other than that, pretty much the best looking Marantz receiver I have ever seen ;-)
Bought one of these new in 1981 from Uncle Steve's in Newark for around $800, which was heavily discounted. Used it consistently for about 12 years, and sold it for $400, with original box, in 1992 or so, when the switches and pots were all going south and the dial lamp plastic inner bezel was yellowing and cracking from the heat. Pretty good construction quality otherwise, but not great. Certainly not worth what people are asking for them today on Eb. BTW- I replaced it with a much lower but better built McIntosh MR4100.
I still have my 2385 with Infinity speakers bought in Okinawa Marine base.
I think that is an beautiful piece of electronics. Your lucky to find vintage stereo gear in this condotion.
Wow that's the big one ya didn't see many of those back in the day, let alone now. You need to stop messing with it until you at least give it a good cleaning

This is not Monster Marantz receiver.. Marantz Monster receivers are 2330 and 4400..

buck65100 this is a demonstration for a friend of my. this unit had dirty switches especially the tape monitor switches. he thought it was the power amp and. I want to make clear that the unit is fully working after cleaning the pots
That is not a Euro unit,it a military PX unit. Euro units have a black faceplate and no voltage selector. The other differences are no Dolby FM, PX and Euro model have no power outlets build in to the back of the unit. And I beleive that these have an extra internal fuse. Any unit designed to be used in Europe was built to be a much safer. .the PX unit were mostly bought in Germany were there were 300 k service people when this was in production.and could be bought new for 700 to 800. Not the 1100.00 price that was in the USA.

The front panel single dubbing jacks are interesting. Looks like 1/4" plugs went in there. Would need adapters on the other ends to/from the other piece of equipment though, right? Haven't seen that design on other models of the time.
