I don't disagree with you, but let's say that I have a different approach to PvE regarding some aspects. First of all in PvE imho the spotting range is really important for a couple of reasons: spotting damage is highly rewarded so the more you spot for your team mates the more credits and xp you get and as usually you face groups of enemies that are quite stupid being AI driven, but have much more firepower then yours, you are a party of 5 facing in some missions up to 30-40 enemies if you are blind you are dead. So I use the binoculars on almost all my tanks, MBTs included as even if other classes are supposed to spot often you find AFVs and LTs that sit in the back and play like TDs are supposed to play.
With AFVs, TDs and LTs I often use both the optics and in many cases Sabrina or Erin as commander as quite often I have to spot for the team so to spot and not be spotted is crucial even more if there is some lieutenant around, you can outspot them, but you need all your camo and spotting range to do it.
About the crew skills I pick the ones that are better for the given vehicle as you can not switch to different sets depending if you play PvP or PvE, while you can change commander, retrofits and ammo choice.
Talking of ammo I mostly use HEAT, loading only few AP for the situations where I can not hit reliably with HEAT, with my MBTs up to tier 6-7 I load also AGTMs when possible, not so useful against fast moving targets but with laser beam precision when they stand st8ill, so their crew has the skill for missile agility, but I don't use the retrofit for it, I use it with the missile boats T8-10 like let's say the T15 or the Kornet as without it you have no chance against the APS that the bots have at that tier (and if you find a merkava and an armata close by it is better to focus on something other else anyway...). I load mainly green ammo on the MBTs that can use it, like the british ones or the Arjun, and in that case the chosen commander is Sabrina. With some tanks I load also few HE as HE can pack a lot of damage against soft targets, the back of some MBTs included. This for high caliber guns, with auto cannons I use only AP and green ammo when possible.
The gun breach retrofit is really useful to boost the dpm, but imo vision range and camo, at least for the tanks that lack of armor, is more important, so I equip it if a slot for it is left, if 2 slots are left I equip also a retrofit that boosts something the particular tank lacks of, like acceleration, accuracy or turret traverse speed.
About the commanders I use Fiodor with all the well armored tanks that I am grinding to maximize the xp and crew xp gain, then usually I switch to Douglas or Rachel in few missions where you know that you will have to fight near many enemies. By the way my Douglas is built in a way that gives a huge view range bonus so with some MBTs as I have also the binoculars loaded I get a crazy long spotting range. With TDs, LTs and AFVs I use Erin or Sabrina as I hate to sit in the back and seek a more active role, this has saved me many times in situations where in the party you find MBT long distance snipers, MBT drivers that go yolo and get destroyed in the first 2 minutes and other similar heroes, happens that I have to go to spot even with bulky wheeled TDs and those missions are the ones that I enjoy the most to play, the ones that really require to be smart and somehow break the repetitiveness of PvE. Playing Ghost Hunters, Tsunami or Harbinger with a party without MBTs, or with MBTs that sit on a hill and snipe instead of doing their work, is quite challenging, you are not granted to win for sure, but for sure you will have fun if your squishy tank has some good camo and view range.
About arty Freya is surely a good commander, but also Fiodor, that massively boosts the aim speed, and Sabrina are viable, with Sabrina you get some serious fires and explosions but mainly get a lot of xp immobilizing the enemies, she is useful also when you are forced to play arty more aggressively and close the distance from the enemy as at least you get some camo protection as you close the distance, but I don't particularly like to play arty, was very fun a long ago, when it was possible to do it in PvP and there had an important tactical role, as well as it was important to protect your party's arty and suppress asap the enemy's one, nowadays in PvE you just sit in some place with a very static way of playing or you play it TD style, trying to give it a role it is not built for, I don't have much fun playing it both ways.
Great point about vision. Vision is standard on all of my vehicles for PVP, and in PVE mode quite often I do not use that only on my TD... :D 100% - vision is absolutelly necessary in both PVE and PVP. Actually I use your vision cammo setups on couple of tanks in PVP. Especially on lower tiers it works great due to reasonably high amount of opponents do not have any retros on their vehicles and if you have vision + cammo you kind of rule the situation, not always but quite often.
Fjodor - it must be commander you obtained, before I started to play AW some 2 or 2,5 years ago - I do not have Erin as well - I would really love to have her between my commanders - looking at her skill tree, she is just great for spotting.
And what's happening with AW - why they took away arty from PVE? was there some gameplay dissemblance or what? Game itself looks cowling behind all other tank games - planing to install WOT and start to play it again... again from scratch :D say 1day AW 1 day WOT.
...
Regarding vision - I recently experimented with Abrams and found that for me works unexpected retro setup - breach, optics and telescope :D and not only for longer range flanking moves, but for direct approach as well - so I see opponents before they see me (when I stop and sit at choke points behind foliage), so I can easy and undisturbed pick target aim at weakspot, make a shot... which of course will give away my position, roll back to reload and then slowly come back to position and do the same numerous times. Otherwise say Abrams for me was not easy to play - too long hull (for me)... always got hit in tail, and hull armor very vulnerable... So you are kind of big target. :D
@@TheDiceTreasures I got Erin and Fjodor for free, or better doing some simple task in some events at the time of the old commander system, when each commander had only 5 skills and was easy and fast to grind, Erin is really invaluable when you need camo, Fjodor is useful for the xp and crew xp bonus, but not so OP. 2 other OP commanders that I don't have are Ophelia and Cortez.
They did not took away arty from PvE, they took it away from PvP, they did it because the players did not like it, but I think that it added some interest to the gameplay, at that time when arty fired the target received a message that the shot was coming so could move away from its position and also the arty position was briefly visible on the minimap of the opposite party arty player, a good arty player could fire on the spots where the snipers usually go or on very static MBTs sitting hull down, but then he had to relocate fast to avoid the enemy arty counter fire, also the damage done and the splash damage area was different from now, I liked it, but it is gone and I suppose it will not come back.
@@andreachinaglia5804 Sorry for typo - yes I meant why they took arty from PVP. Ok, I see, but as you describe - it looks logical - now days in modern warfare there are intelligent systems that can calculate where artillery fire came from - so it should kind of mimic real battlefield. Uh, I would like to see arty in PVP.
@@TheDiceTreasures as I told I don't see it coming back, but also I wish it would as it gave some tactical deepness to the random battles, leaving a flank not protected could allow some fast afv to infiltrate back of your line and suppress your arty, to sit behind some well known bushes and snipe could still be possible, but needed some care as arty, that had a wider splash area, could blind fire you and to sit hull down in some choke point with a mbt before the enemy arty was killed could cause you some problems. But all the game balance has changed from those times, i.e. at that time there was no infantry that somehow can cover a similar role, at least in some situations, and the whole camo and sight thing was different from now.
I know I'm late to the party, but here's my (exclusively a PvE player) opinion for what it's worth....
1. "competing with your team-mates for points"...Yes and no. Depends what you are trying to achieve. If you're looking to gain XP as fast as possible, it's been my experience that being the best team-mate you can be nets a lot more xp...Spotting, tracking, etc. especially on vehicles with low dps, is the way to advance quickly. If you are doing challenges (kills/ damage etc.) then yes, it's a competition. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, keeping your spotting tank alive is worth what some may consider a "wasted" shot (that being a shot into a low hp AI when other targets are available)...If your Chally driver is kind enough to bait-spot...make sure to kill any AI that gets to his rear or side ASAP...if he dies you're going to have to spot for yourself, which on many maps will lower your overall dps and/ or get you killed. (By the way, "bait-spotting" is the fastest way to grind the Chally line assuming you know the spawns well...just saying).
2. Sabrina + HESH/ PISH + knowledge of ammo rack locations= Best chally commander bar none for damage/ xp gain. (Yeah I'm a Chally driver at heart as you can probably tell). Rachel is a good choice for brawling, but if you are really trying to maximise damage output on what is generally a low DPS tank, being able to consistently detonate ammo racks is the way to go, and Sabrina does this beautifully. Also, if you can't pen, hit the tracks....assist damage is better than no damage from a shell you didn't fire.
3. As others have mentioned, having view range on even your brawler tanks will give you a much better chance of spotting the AI you are baiting rather than a team-mate who's sitting behind you in an afv relying on the AI to fire in order to spot them. Lighting up the AI yourself rather than just getting them to light themselves up for your team-mates is preferable (although in the long-run either way lends itself to quicker matches, so greater xp gain over time).
Being selfish can help in some cases (kill-count challenges in particular), but don't get overly invested in the "competing with your team-mates" idea if what you are after is fast XP gain. Knowing what your role is on the team, and being good at it is what gets you fast XP for the most part (there will always be exceptions to everything of course).
Hello and welcome! It's never too late to join the party, and we really appreciate your insights, especially as an exclusively PvE player. Your perspective is valuable, and it's clear you've put a lot of thought into your approach.
I completely agree with your point about being a team player. In PvE, it's often about working together effectively, and supporting your team can lead to more XP and a smoother experience. I also appreciate your emphasis on the importance of spotting and tracking, as these actions can be crucial in advancing quickly.
Your Chally insights are fantastic! It's great to hear your passion for the tank, and your advice on commanders and ammo rack locations is spot on. Sabrina with HESH/PISH sounds like a powerful combination.
Your mention of view range for brawler tanks and taking an active role in spotting AI is a great tip. Being proactive in spotting can indeed make a significant difference in PvE matches.
Your advice on balancing between being selfish for challenges and being a team player for fast XP gain is a nuanced perspective that I'm sure many players will find valuable.
We're really glad to have you here sharing your thoughts and strategies. Your engagement in this conversation is fantastic, and we'd love to hear more from you in the future. If you have any other insights or questions, please feel free to share them. Thanks for being a part of our community!
