    Question of the Day: Please practice what you've learned in this lesson. Please make one sentence for each of the seven coordinating conjunctions.
    Bonus fact: Do you know who the Toronto Raptors' biggest fanboy is? (Hint, it isn't Drake)🏀 Nav Bhatia is officially the number one fan of the Raptor's. If you didn't notice his picture in this lesson, watch the video again 😉

    1. I want to watch your videos, FOR learning your well explained grammar.
    2. I think it´s a good idea listening to your words, AND repeat them out loud.
    Listening to your words AND repeating them out lout. (Not comma)
    3. I don`t want to go shopping, NOR being long in parks at the present time.
    4. I´d like to go on vacation, BUT I have to wait for quite some time.
    5. In my free time I usually read a newspaper, OR watch music videos on television.
    6. I would like to visit Toronto again, YET that is impossible for me now
    7. I don´t remember English grammar rules that I learned long ago, So I have to follow your lessons.
    Jen, I've learned in this lesson something that I wasn't sure about the place of the comma. As always, your grammar explanations are amazingly perfect.👏👍🌹

      Hi Santiago.
      Thanks for your nice comment. I am very glad to hear that this lesson was also useful for you, especially the explanations of commas. ☺️
      Of course your English is great. I hope you don't mind, but I just want to quickly correct a small point with possible confusion around gerunds and infinitives.
      In your second sentence you mixed a gerund and an infinitive, however we can't do that. (Correct examples: I like reading and singing. I like to read and sing. Incorrect example: I like to read and singing.)They should both be gerunds or both be infinitives, and in this case because it is coming after "it's a good idea", you should use the infinitive. "I think it's a good idea to listen to your words, and repeat them out loud."
      Your third sentence has the same mistake because you have the infinitive 'to go' mixed with the gerund 'being'. So it should be "I don't want to go shopping, nor be long in parks at the present time."
      It's only a small point, but since I appreciate your encouraging comments, I just wanted to bring it to your attention. 😉

      @@JeNsJyugyou Oh, dear, I made a great mistake. Yes, but my English perhaps looks good but it is not. 😥(two infinitives, in this case). Now I understand. I appreciate your correction very much, Jen. I won’t forget, I promise. 👍 I´m hoping that the pandemic problem will be decreasing there, as it seems that it will be happening in this country. Hi Santiago,
      It's only a small point, so don't worry too much. 🙂
      I am also praying that this world-wide pandemic will end soon and stop its spread. Things here are slowly starting to reopen, but I fear a second wave will happen as people start to relax too much despite the invisible threat still lurking. I hope the situation in Spain is improving and that you are able to have more freedom safely. Take care 💐

      @JeNsJyugyou 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. ☺️ Your second sentence is perfect, but your first example is slightly wrong: "these coordinating conjunctions are the glue for making great sentences, even poetic sentences."
      (Although 'for' is a coordinating conjunction, it is also used in several other ways as well. In your example sentence it is used as a preposition. This is why you don't need a comma in front of it, but the verb that follows it should be a gerund. )

      Great example sentences using coordinating conjunctions 🤩. Here are a few corrections which I hope will help:
      1. Since the United States offers better job opportunities many people migrate to it.(Since makes more sense here)
      2. Good sentence. 😃
      3. Adam didn't travel with his family, nor did he go to the cinema with his friends. (parallel structure)
      4. We can neither afford a new car, nor a vacation to Europe. (Usually 'nor' is used with 'neither')
      5. Laura is very good at mathematics and she loves it, but her parents decided that she should study law. ('good' at is the correct collocation. Here's a video I made which can help: th-cam.com/video/Oz5oYINIFFM/w-d-xo.html )
      6. You can take the test on a computer, or if you want you can answer the questions on paper, but you must write your responses down clearly. (the meaning of 'them' was unclear)
      7. You have to choose between a hamburger, a pizza, or a cake. (between sounds more natural than among, and you don't need 'an' for hamburger)
      8. Mark studied hard for his exams, yet he failed. (it's not used as a conjunction in this case, but the correct collocation is 'study for')
      9. Your sentence is perfect 👍
      I wish you all the best 😊 .

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Omar 😎 Thanks for your question. Both of those sentences are grammatically correct and have the exact same meaning.
      The article 'A" means that there is one of something. When the word after 'a' ends with a vowel then 'a' becomes 'an'. I'll see you in an hour = I'll see you in one hour. Over time the words 'an other' have simply become one word (another) that is often used in English. In fact, although both sentences have the same meaning, for me personally it sounds much more natural to use "another question" rather than "one other question".
      I hope that helps. 💐

    Hi, Jen! The word ‘beef’ stands for cow’s meat, same way ‘lamb’ and ‘mutton’ are words related to meat. Say, I were a cannibal, what would I call human flesh?

    • @English_takeaways
      @English_takeaways 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My being hypothetical is certainly a way to conceal the truth! I am a full-time cannibal! :D

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol! What an interesting question. I suppose that if you were a cannibal, you would like a specific word to describe your diet. However, to my knowledge, similar to how the meat of chicken is just chicken, there is no word special word for the the meat of humans, other than 'human flesh'. In English speaking culture eating human flesh is a huge taboo which would explain why there is no word for it.

    • @English_takeaways
      @English_takeaways 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I found a peculiar word for that that you might recognize, though I find it suspiciously uncommon. It is said to describe the diet that a cannibal would have. Does the phrase ‘long pig’ ring a bell in your head?

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I Googled the expression "long pig" and in the majority of results is says things like 'term formerly used', ' antiquated term', and 'outdated expression'. So although you could use the expression, I don't think many native English speakers would necessarily understand. It's interesting that cannibals apparently compared humans to pigs. I wonder if we taste the same? LOL 😅

    • @English_takeaways
      @English_takeaways 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we taste the same? Hmm.. There must be a way to answer that question without actually tasting human meat. Scientists are the ones who like to know why. All we need to do is find a wacky TH-camr to do a little research on the matter :D
