Huge improvement over Chuck Berry's original in terms of record sales and chart position.
Rivers had residency at the Whisky-A-Go-Go venue on Sunset Strip, Hollywood, where many notable artists performed. It became fashionable to record 'live' albums at the club (Otis Redding - 'Live at the Whisky-A-Go-Go) and the venue's go-go dancers heralded a new craze for fringed costumes and dancing boots. Maybe The Miracles hit 'Going to a Go-Go' was inspired by the then current club-scene ?

The song that launched his career in 1964. Being that this is a Chuck Berry tune Johnny Rivers made this song popular. His sound in Music was more traditional than the music of the British Invasion. He was one of the few American Rockers that was unaffected by the British Invasion. He fought back musically when British Rockers were dominating the American radio airwaves. If he hasn't been he needs to be inducted in the music hall of fame. He still had a hard Rocking sound.
