I'm 75 years old, grew up in the Detroit metro area, and I bought album " What's Going On " when I returned from Vietnam in 1971. To this day , "Inner City Blues" will bring tears to my eyes. I believe it is the greatest album of all time. Marvin is at the mountain top of my greatest performers all time. Rickk, take a little of your time and listen to the entire album. A Masterpiece. You won't regret it.
Smokey Robinson is in agreement with you. He said, ‘It’s prophecy. Marvin was right, God did write it, and the stuff he was singin about is relevant today.’ 🙏🏾
Still relevant even today , some 50+ years later. Great reaction ❤🎶🎵 Ty 🥰
I’m sorry for the loss of your Dad. He evidently taught you his life wisdom. Good reaction
This album came out the year I graduated high school. Still relevant back then as it is today. Marvin was a visionary genius. He's my favorite singer of all time.
As soon as I saw you were reacting to this perfect song, I knew you’d be listening to it twice. What a treasure Marvin Gaye was.
I'm going on 69 and this song was relevant in 1971 when it was released. Sadly, it's still relevant in 2024.
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Marvin Gaye ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
66 year old British guy here - Rickk, Marvin Gaye was a beautiful man and so are you - I saw MG perform live in London, England - he was incredible.... God bless your father man - my wonderful mum passed last December....❤..........Peace and love to you my brother🙏
Marvin was a genius
I’m sorry to hear your father just passed. I know he is proud of the good hearted son he raised. Thank you for this reaction. This MG album is a masterpiece. I encourage you to listen to all the songs on this album!
~50 years later, as relevant as ever. RIP to the goat
Also RIP to your dad man
Also everyone go read &/or listen to some Huey Newton, Kwame Ture/Stokley Carmichael, Lorenzo Kom’boa Ervin, George Jackson, James Yaki Sayles, Audre Lorde, bell hooks, etc
Marvin Gaye was a Prophet for Sure. Love this Album ever since it came out in 1971.
R I P to your Pops! Much love!
Man Marvin made timeless music. Still going on today. Classic here. Great reaction here.
Thank you my G for recognizing a recognizing a song that's recognized in today's society. Iam a 65 year old man from the inner city Chicago.
Still relevant today, grew up in the 70s on rock but Marvin is still on the playlist
Young Brother, WELCOME to Marvin's world! This was a breakthrough album for Marvin at a time when he was Finally allowed to write, produce, create release HIS MUSIC and leave behind the MOTOWN music that he felt needed to be updated and needed to reflect the current state of Black America! This was my FIRST purchase of my own music (cassette) when I was 16 or so around 1970. The Vietnam war was in full effect, inflation was rampant, there were anti-war rallies everywhere around the country, hippies and love-ins that the older generation never understood while they continued to support politics and didn't 'Make Waves' against what was happening around them and which Severely affected their lives!!!!
Then along comes this new generation that wanted and demanded change!
What a Time! Marvin's Best Album!
He had many, many Hit Singles but this Entire Album was Pure Platinum. It's called "What's Going on".
Put it in your Playlist. You won't ever be disappointed. It's all the raw, emotional, passionate truth of that Era. I'm glad you recognized that same Truth in this Era..... Approximately 54 years later. They say, The More Things Change... The more They Stay The Same.
I am So Sorry for the loss of your father! Your Daddy wasn't Crazy. He was speaking the same TRUTH Marvin speaks here.
Wishing you and yours Love, Peace, Love and Enlightenment Always!
To me one of the greatest loss to Music was Marvin ...... Powerful song by Marvin
Marvin had his finger on the pulse of America, since the 70s. And all that he described are things relevant still today 54 years later. His music is timeless, and he changed his style with every decade he created a more intricate version of himself
There's a message in the music 💯
Black love black love black love
You should give a listen to Mercy Mercy me (The Ecology) Marvin Gaye was way ahead of his time.
This entire album is a masterpiece. I was 11 years old when this recording came out and my father had this album on repeat. It always reminds me of him.❤
Miss Marvin Gaye, he was such a unique writer and influencer.
Respect! I respect you and what you stand for. Your appreciation and support of our first responders is truly honourable. Condolences on the loss of your father. He raised a good man!
The end of this song goes into his hit What's Going On .
This song came out over 50 years ago. It makes me wonder why folks aren't MORE angry.
Rickk, you touched my heart, as Marvin touched yours. God love ya honey, he touched mine many years ago.
Listen to his version of the Nation Anthem before the 1983 NBA All Star game. It’s was controversial because he sang it with soul. Beautiful version
Somebody hearin Marvin and gets it! ❤️
This show that your dad told you about truth and love
This song still resonates.
This is why Rollingstone called this album, the number one of all time. The What Is Going On Album by MarvIn Gaye.
brilliant reaction: this is what it should be about.
Greatest album ever IMO.
“Nothings changed” 2024 wow!
I was in full agreement until you said "smell". lol.
We get what he meant in general. He is a lovely guy, but I was wondering why he was wishing success to the drug dealers. LOL.
Such a groove…love so many of his songs..try wonderful one,too busy thinking about my baby, got to give it up parts 1&2,just to name some
Maan you gotta listen to his "I want you" album and "whats going on" album
Me also, I am 66 and grew up with Motown and Marvin. Sorry Marvin but life here has not changed in 50 years. Went to his memorial and his display at Henry Ford museum. That and his memorial broke me down. We will never have a man like that ever.
im white and i feel THE injustice.
So tragic that his father killed him
Sorry about your Father, and we older people sometimes we know what we are talking about because we lived in, and history do sometime repeat it self.
How can an African American never have heard the What's going on album? Dude must have been living under a rock
👍
Watch "whats going on " by him
