Stephen Colbert brings his signature satire and comedy to THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT, the #1 show in late night, where he talks with an eclectic mix of guests about what is new and relevant in the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, music, technology and more. Featuring bandleader Louis Cato and “THE LATE SHOW band,” the Peabody Award-winning and Emmy Award-nominated show is broadcast from the historic Ed Sullivan Theater. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015.
I appreciate taking the time for a _Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon_ reference
Didn't catch that first time 😂.
Can't believe this guy Stephen (not very Strange anymore...) is still on tee-vee!
Lame that it elicited applause, though.
Huge setup, tiny payoff.
Well I liked it. They can't all be Peabody Award winners.
And I really like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
I love Meanwhile, but the special sauce for me is hearing Lewis’s reactions from the side. Just warms my heart.
Best intro to meanwhile I've seen. How you're able to say that many words without messing one up is absolutely astounding. Kudos Mr Colbert
Joro spiders are actually very timid, more so than native spiders. They have been observed catching the brown marmorated stink bug, another invasive species that native spiders have not been known to eat, and it has also been hoped that they may consume mosquitoes and flies. Some hope that the impact of the species will be positive due to their harmless nature and consumption of primarily invasive or nuisance insects.
@@Terastas lol! 😂😂😂
@@Terastas
That...Actually makes sense.
Yes, maybe they'll eat those killer wasps and the spotted lantern flies.... win win?!
@Terastas - Going after invasives makes one invasive? lol. That doesn't sound like the worst scenario for an introduced species. I hope this doesn't turn into an Australian Myxomatosis situation...
Thanks Cancun771, I just left a comment it's impossible those are just now arriving in NYC. When we've had them here in the South for 2 decades already. And they originally entered the US from some ships docked on the East Coast, likely NYC.
The way I find them here is their webs are so thick that it looks like you could literally use them for fishing line!
plus they are beautiful.
So fun fact about those spiders they can paraglide on their own webs… have fun America
Hahaha...(Begins inching towards the phone to call every exterminator for a hundred miles)
I heard that. If I encounter one ,I'm becoming a hermit!😮😮😮
We have had them in Georgia for a few years now! Super cool to see and harmless. I have a few babies around the yard now and am excited to see them grow!
Actually, many spiders can do that when they're spiderlings. They just don't eventually grow to be 8 inches across. Fortunately this species is apparently harmless and won't affect the ecosystem. (Check back with me in 3 years on that one...)
@@JohnDrummondPhoto I don't care how they travel planes,trains, automobile,being shot out of a cannon! Just no,no,no! Yikes!
Australia seeing the spider thing and going "Alright, mate, that is nothin but a budgie smuggler, let's go to Maccas"
Fellow Aussie here- dammit i think you got in first & spoiled my gag!😂.. 😖...👋
lol
A Budgie smuggler, OMG.
@@aniee249 *in case you are not aware how extra funny this gag is- "budgie smugglers" are our common name over here for "SPEEDOS"- (give it some thought). Smugglers of extra large budgies are very popular over here.

Cinci resident here. Best part of the tiger news the other day is that the Zoo was contacted and they said, "well... all of our tigers are accounted for... so... not sure what's going on." I had a few friends scouring the OTR area to find it. I was ready to hear a phone call that one of the guys had a run in with some murder mittens and was in the hospital but thankfully they also didn't find it. (On a second note there is also someone who drives around the Findlay Market in a Jeep with a HUGE REAL LIFE python snake that just hangs out around the hood and sides of the car and one time he also had a small monkey in a diaper in his passenger seat. Things are wild here.)
So Cincy is just an extension of Florida now, right? BTW the tigers got on an Eastbound Amtrack at Union Terminal and will be arriving in the new Penn Station shortly.
2:00 No Bengals in Cincinnati? Those officers are fooling nobody.
Did the team move? 😂
I also thought they should have done a Bengals joke!
@@Drnaynay reason they skipped one probably is: Colbert is admittedly not a fan of sports
@@Drnaynay but he still coulda gone, “really, because I coulda sworn people had seen some Bengals there” or something for the punchline

The American ghosts in the remake, the UK one is the original
And only one is watchable.
The British one is so much better.
I like them both! Regardless, given Stephen Merchant was just on last night and Stephen asked him about The Office, I can't believe his writers wrote that
@@DeannaBlakeOgTgDq I like both but I dunno. I'm british yet if I had to choose just one... I think I'd go with the US one. Which is my opposite preference to The Office. :O But eh, I just like that we have both versions of Ghosts. :)
Why am I not surprised the Americans are again claiming to be the creators of a great show.
Mr Colbert hi from iran, I am a civil engineer and after a long time I came back and studied my favorite field and I am about to get my phd in Political Science and international relations, I want to thank you because in one show you were talking about your children and talked about education and you said "it must be nice to hold a phd" and it was first thing to start it to now
Fantastic! Good luck with your studies!
How is Iran?
Much to love and success to you my friend
Good luck to you!

The "right in the butt" thing is so funny to me because there are 5 letters in "right" but there were only 4 spaces, & there are two t's in "butt", & a t was already on the board 🤣
True but based on the correct answer, more T's had yet to be revealed.

If the spiders are big enough to eat birds, maybe they're big enough for us to eat them.
Hold on let me call Australia and check,...
Nahhh mate, you let the spiders catch the birds for you and then you eat the birds 👍
Terrifyingly, some native people in South America catch tarantulas iirc, big spiders anyway, and EAT them.
Not much difference between eating a lobster or a spider. Maybe broaden your horizons a bit.
I’m Australian…. Those spiders can paraglide on their own webs…. Have fun
🤣👏
They didn’t report finding any tigers because the guys that found tigers didn’t come back.
"Hmmmm I wonder where Anderson went... oh well back to Dunkin' "
Had a dream there was a pack of wolves in the neighborhood.... And I'm trying to avoid the wolves and warn all my neighbors.... Idk your comment brought that back to my mind. 😂
The Pringles people should be paying for that guy's defense. He just bought them the best advertising slogan delivery they'll ever have.
I mean...he didn't really *buy* it, though, did he?
Aussie here, got to keep scaring you Americans (and the rest of the world). Husband laying mulch in the garden bed received a spider bite. Next day a fist sized red lump on his shoulder, A few hours later the top is black. Trip to emergency room, wound cleaning, antibiotics; trips to the hospital every 2 days for specialist treatment. He is now wearing a vacuum pump device on his hip with a tube to drain the site, endless dressings etc. He has a hole the size of a walnut in his shoulder and we are now two weeks in. Outlook improving but he is not so keen on any more gardening. We think it was a Wolf Spider.
Or Brown Recluse. They tend to eat away at the skin.
Thank you for fueling my nightmares. I almost stepped on a wolf spider once, it was in the tub and I was just about to get in and have a shower. I saw it seconds before my foot would have landed on it. Screamed and hopped backwards.
I hope he has a good recovery 🕊
Hang in there
Thanks Colbert!!! I needed that this morning ☕
This has been the first Meanwhile in a long time where I've cried-laughed!!!!! Thank you, Stephen and your team of writers 💗
The Cincinnati tiger story reminds me of an old joke.
A chap was on a train journey and the passenger sitting opposite was throwing very small pieces of paper out of the window.
"Why are you doing that?" the chap asked.
"It keeps the elephants away." the passenger replied.
"But there are no elephants in England." the chap remarked.
"See, it works!" the passenger exclaimed.
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
There's an episode of The Simpsons, where Lisa and Homer are talking about a "Bear Patrol" the city has started in response to a wandering bear.
Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.
Lisa: That’s specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: [thinking it's a compliment] Thank you, dear.
[Lisa picks up a random rock from the ground.]
Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Oh, how does it work?
Lisa: It doesn’t work.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: It’s just a stupid rock.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?
[Homer looks around nervously, then pulls out a bunch of cash.]
Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.
[Lisa holds up a hand and shakes her head, pauses for a moment, and then takes the cash and gives him the rock.]
Love it! I've heard similar lines over the ears, but can't remember any of them now.

FYI, the US version of "Ghosts" is a remake of the UK version. I would think that the licensing rights belong to the BBC not to CBS.
I can think of more than a dozen shows that Americans probably think they invented.
No one does a smidge of research....
CBS probably bought the US rights
Also the UK cast is the original "Horrible History" cast whom are outstanding (also did Yonderland).
Lol that what I hollered at the TV. Love Stephen but he needs better researchers

I think you'll find the German show is a remake of the original UK Ghosts series (BBC) rather than being a remake of the remake by CBS. (A day after Steven Merchant of Office fame too... Tut... Tut!)
I think he knew that but wanted to make a lame joke that would not have worked if he said UK show. Joke didn't work anyway though
BBC Studios is producing the German adaptation for ARD. Can't wait to see how our adaptation of "Ghosts" stacks up against the US version!

I saw Joro spiders (Jorogumo) is Japan. While large, they are a harmless species to humans and don't tend to enter the home. They are also quite good and keeping mosquitos away.
Now Ashidaka-gumo, huntsman spiders, are the size of your hand and faster than seems real.
Interesting. Thank you. Now we need to immediately empty our minds of that information to return to a state of Zen.

Spiders are going to be less of a problem than Tromp supporters. ('Misspelling' intended)
Cmon the rats are much smarter and tougher then both
They'll be more spiders than Trump supporters in NY this Fall.
I'd misspell it as "Tramp"
Joro Spiders are from Japan and they're actually quite tame and pretty. The only bummer is their webs are huge and, while mostly they build them out of the way, sometimes they can make them across a path or a doorway and can be a little bit of a nuisance to remove.
Yes, when I'm in the woods, I carry a stick, which comes in handy to remove the webs of what we call 'face spiders'. They're not a problem when they stay low.
