I'm not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say.. This guy is very clean, groovy, and methodical.. Good stage presence.. got into his groove and didn't just chop it up.. Well done bruh.. Keep it up!!
His playing was far better than the others, in my opinion. Everyone else used more showboating than technique. His playing seems drumline inspired, and totally on point. What most people don't comprehend is that technique is more than just playing quick and loud. The most innovative drummer of this bunch, by far.
awesome. finally a drummer who plays spontanuous and not a bunch of memorized marching band patterns. Fat grooves for sure if I was playing madison square garden and wanted to kick the headliners ass this would have been my choice. Thanks for not copying all the other winners from the past!!! Cool stuff.
they usually anounce when there will be an annual drum off, i think the 2012 is either going on now or it just barely finished i don't know, but you usually just sign up at your local guitar center and you move up the ranks based on the winning competitors, but to make it as far as these guys you need to have alot of skill
You can actually see that they put up an overhead cam! So... why don't we get to see that angle?! Anyway, love that guy as well as Michael McGrath! Fantastic drummers :)
Wow. I dont know if anyone has pointed this out already, but this dude busted a 2PAC beat in the middle of his solo. "Whatz ya phone numba" I fuckin love that song and especially the beat. Oh and that solo was sick!
im a drummer my name is daniel roik and sore this on drum off on youtube, were do u go for this, ive been playing drum's for 9 years now, so wish i could do this in front of people, im in australia but they dont do thing's like that here, in australia were can i go so i can give it a go, it looks like so much fun, i also sing with my drumming is that aloud in the drum off.
@drjoha1990 I dont neccesarily think that they failed...they have to choose from THE best undiscovered drummers. All of the drummers brought some craziness to the table. And plus the judges are some of the best drummers to ever live...not trying to be dumb about it but just saying, judging drummers of this caliber is not easy!!
@ibanezmk1 Thats what i was saying. This guy has awesome groove and great build up and dynamics. Definitely one of the better developed solos not completely revolved chopping the drum set to shreds lmao.
i listened to michael mcgrath and i disagree with everyone who thinks he should have won. dont get my wrong hes good but i personally think that this guy is better and should have won
@RickDawg527 its funny too cause i assume the people that get on here and say "oh thats dumb, that person just played a bunch of marching drum stuff" have no idea what theyre talking about and suck at ANY type of drumming, set or marching.
Drumline drummers? They are actually some of the most fundamentally knowledgeable musicians out there ... Think about it.. do you learn chords before scales? How can u learn how to be a true drummer without rudiments? I'm not a marching band drummer, but I've had the privilege to learn some things from them... The foundation of drumming is rudiments.. I've made it to regional and I play 5 nights a week in a working band... Not a jam band.. do your homeeork.. these guys are talented and they
I remember him from the 90's r&b group imajin. It's great he entered in a competition, win or lose.
I'm not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say.. This guy is very clean, groovy, and methodical.. Good stage presence.. got into his groove and didn't just chop it up.. Well done bruh.. Keep it up!!
That was a hell of a drum solo. Homie killed it!!!!
Jamal from Imajin!!!! Awesome
I don't care whatcha say, that's a badddddd dude!!!
dudes, i absolutely love the sound of the drums!!!reminds me of william kennedy live!!!
Iove that snare!!
🏆
1:50 to 1:53 - could someone explain what he does in that part?
His playing was far better than the others, in my opinion. Everyone else used more showboating than technique. His playing seems drumline inspired, and totally on point. What creativity and power. Definitely proud of Jamal.
this is a awesome drum solo two
wow, this guy's good, really love his energy and creativity
Crazy, his hands are basically completely even.
Pretty creative grooving too.
I like the sound of the set heads and how its tuned and the cymbals
Were at The Guitar Center Drum-Off 09 Music Box Wiltern Theatre at Hollywod Carliforña
WHOA! THIS THE DUDE FROM THE R&B GROUP IMAJIN. HE COULD SING HIS BUTT OFF. I FORGOT HE PLAYED DRUMS.
This video extended my popping session by an extra 4 minutes.
Wow. He really should have won this year.
That 777-9311 groove was one of the first grooves I learned as a drummer. Go listen if you don't know it. Morris Day 777-9311 is the song title.
Owaaaaaaaa..........................Tem caras escondidos por aí tocando muito mesmo!
I agree, he definitely has the best transitions and build-up. Lots of power, too.
@startrooper64 Yes, they did it at Cobham's video too.
black drummers always have the best sounding snares :)
awesome. finally a drummer who plays spontanuous and not a bunch of memorized marching band patterns. Fat grooves for sure if I was playing madison square garden and wanted to kick the headliners ass this would have been my choice. Thanks for not copying all the other winners from the past!!! does anyone know how he throws the snare on around 1:33? Pretty impressive
Stanley Jamal Hampton my new favorite drummer & Tony Royster Jr.

Wow. actually my favorite solo of the drum off. i saw him drop the stick, but his style is awesome!
dis guy is amazing aspecially at 2:58
I think this what the second best solo of the drum off last year
I've been a fan of this guy since Imajin!!
Godd playin bro....GOD bless!!!
@Drumechine i agree that was the best part of the solo
He killed that 7779311 at the end.
The Tama Metal Works mad nice
Damn...Guys like this dude make me feel like a poser. Then it drives me to practice even more. He's got serious skill and chops.

He looks like Michael Clark Duncan on the drum, RIP MCD
damn. all of the best drummers i know or have met besides jojo mayer could not hold a candle to any of the finalists of this competition
that snare made me happy. :D
🏆
Dig the open handed hi hat groove stuff. What's the groove he's playing in the beginning of that around 2:55?
Its just a groove
great solo construction !!
and very musical compared to the other finalists!!
best beats
this guy is a monster!
this dude can really play. I'd like to jam with him.
OMG, Groove at 1:42. . I'm Stealin it lol
He should have won just because of the small kit he plays on. He played better on that kit than a lot of guys do with 20 drums and 25 cymbals.
Great solo.
man o man o man!!!! that snare soundn STUPID FRESH!!!! wut band/wood/ply is that???!!! any1??
God, that snare sounds nice.
Isn't he playing that $600 OCDP kit that I see on musiciansfriend all the time... the one with basswood shells...?
which one is that wonderful snare???
look like Pearl with Evans drumhead
🏆

Does anyone now what AAX hihat is he using?

🏆
dang what a snare
@ibanezmk1 Thats what i was saying. This guy has awesome groove and great build up and dynamics. Definitely one of the better developed solos not completely revolved chopping the drum set to shreds lmao.
ya he uses an aax x-celerator 14 "
This reminds me of the 300 soundtrack for some reason.
fuck. that one groove that he started around 1:30 or 1:40 was killer!!
@raiders1815 me too this guy really let the groove go smoothly in this solo, but i still mcgrath was reaaal good tho
Don't hate just because he made the finals!
who's drum kit is that in the background?
when did he drop the stick?
Hey that guy is a good drummer okay I am not like none of those other drummers okay
Who turned the snares on?
@mrzak81 I think Ramon was more creative, strumming the snare like a guitar, and moving the cymbals around.
that was a sexy solo good for him.
He looks like a drumming ninja.
@drjoha1990 Ramon has the most TALENT and most of the other guys just practice a lot.
This dude is killn Ramon. How did he lose & Ramon won.
is there a age limit?...
no stick holder? no problem!
lol they guy that taps him on the shoulder works at the guitar center by my house....his name is GUY .......really no foolin
He tries to do the what's your phone number beat hahahah
that bass drum is like a thundercloud. sexy
if he didnt drop the stick he might of won
R.I.P. Michael Duncan :(
i listened to michael mcgrath and i disagree with everyone who thinks he should have won. dont get my wrong hes good but i personally think that this guy is better and should have won
Lighting. Glare....and such. :D
sick cross overs
cool
@RickDawg527 its funny too cause i assume the people that get on here and say "oh thats dumb, that person just played a bunch of marching drum stuff" have no idea what theyre talking about and suck at ANY type of drumming, set or marching.
@brianxj I think he might have used his knee, thats the only thing I can guess.
best part 1:35- 1:40
DUDE What the heck??? I could cover Ramon's Solo and this one i can't, and this one is much better than Ramon's.
this guys at a good level i guess, all the other guys where just on a much much muchhigher level
@CamDrummerDude NO he nots not related to him. This is nothing though ive seen him play a lot better in person. I jam with him all the time.
Should've won
this fella should have won for sho.
@HenryTholomewPlague Sabian AAX
I think this guy was better than Ramon...
@drjoha1990 This guys over Ramon? What are you smoking
oh so wait ... i thought ramon won 09. he didnt?????
@JacobTheDrummar 3:56
Los n b a de la batería.
That's what happens when you don't use Remo heads. :P
