- Sona Jobarteh is a unique and pioneering musical icon of her time whose renown has been rapidly flourishing globally.
Born into a Griot family from the Gambia, a tradition that dates back seven centuries, she is the first female within this tradition to become a professional virtuoso on the Kora. Her music is uniquely poised between the preservation of her rich cultural heritage and an accessible, modern style that relates to the current era and to audiences from all over the world.
At the heart of her success as an artist is her dedication to humanitarian activism in the areas of social development and educational reform on the continent of Africa. She is the Founding Director of The Gambia Academy, an institution dedicated educational reform for Africans on the continent of Africa.

Sona Jobarteh (born 1983) is a Gambian multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer. She is from one of the five principal kora-playing griot families of West Africa, and is the first female professional kora player to come from a griot family. She is the cousin of the celebrated kora player Toumani Diabate, and is the sister of the diaspora kora player Tunde Jegede.

Hope the Gambian academy is not only music - there's enough music in Africa and what's needed now is food security, peace and good governance, which need a more enhanced approach than blooming up some music school

Сона Джобарте это мировая звезда. Здесь в России ее никто не понял. Музыка Сахеля трудна для русского восприятия. Но ее музыка прекрасно живет в Лондоне, откуда Сона родом. Ее мать англичанка Галина Честер
Как рассказывает о ней Википедия, Кора изучала кору с трехлетнего возраста , сначала ее учил брат Тунде Джегеде, который на 11 лет старше, и с которым она путешествовала несколько раз в год в Гамбию в детстве, а затем ее отец Санджалли Джобарте. Она училась в Королевском музыкальном колледже, где изучала виолончель, фортепиано и клавесин, а вскоре после этого перешла в музыкальную школу имени Перселла, чтобы изучать композицию. Она также получила степень в SOAS, Лондонском университете. Она свободно владеет Мандинкой, а также английским языком.

I am not American but we are brothers separated by borders and removed by brutal force from our lands and some as in my case move gradually to the Southern part of Africa and some remained in the North Eat of Africa which is where my father is from but my mother's side migrated south thousands of years ago. Let us remember our ancestors and morn their pain but most importantly unite in their remembrance and let us defy the evil powers against us the original people of this world and come back to who we were.
