Going in for total knee replacement on right side in about three weeks. I pray thst i will have less pain with new knee. If right side works out good next is left knee.
Wow, this is Al's second knee replacement. He can actually compare the latest with the way they did it back in the day. He did a great job with the recovery process!
He looks great, I'm 2 weeks out from have both done with limited support but I'm focused and my thinking is the recovery pain can't be as bad as the pain over the last 3 years.
I'm really delighted for him if this is truly his recovery after just 2x weeks. I'm 6 weeks post op and no where near his movement or flexibility. His recovery seems exceptional and the lack of a scar is unusual. Most people will face a far longer and far more arduous recovery. So, very pleased for him, but his exceptional recovery sets a very unrealistic target for most people.
That was a great therapy. That must have felt stiff and painful. If that was me and they bent my knee like that I would scream and shout in pure agony. I would give up. But Al amazing bravery there.
LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER SURGERY?? Surely you're talking about a PARTIAL replacement, not a TOTAL. Not to mention that after looking at Roker's nearly totally healed surgical scar in this short of a time, with nearly zero bruising, swelling, staples, or severe pain, makes me even more dubious of this video. His physical therapist actually had him doing movements that I wouldn't have even THOUGHT of during my knee surgery recovery, which leads me to believe that Al Roker must be the illegitimate son of Superman.
I had it. It was horrible. After 4 months I’m in terrible shape. I guess if I was Al and rich I’d do better. I also lost 70 pounds without gastric bypass. Rich Al did bypass. Gee, I wonder how much more healthy I’d be if I had big bucks. I cry every day still.
Totally agree! I’m 3 & half weeks in, & only just started being able to elevate my leg! I’m able to walk without sticks now, but flex is no where near his......I know everyone is different, but I’m a bit suspicious about this video 🤨
He’s rich with money anything’s possible he’s probably getting pain injections and injections to loosen it I work 10 times harder than this I’m 4 weeks removed and I can walk without a cane but not the way he can
There is no way that was 2 weeks after his operation. His incision looked completely healed, that doesn't happen in 2 weeks. I had my staples removed 2 weeks after the operation.
Yes way! I had mine done with zero stables! Just glue! Looked healed coming out of surgery! 24 hrs post surgery i was sitting up in bed "Indian style" with both legs crossed almost in a complete lotus position without even thinking about it watching tv. Drs walked in and their jaws dropped. I had COMPLETE flexion in the operative knee with zero pain.
Had my left knee replaced six weeks ago I’m 66. I got the green light to go back in the gym and start doing resistance work on my leg very important that doing the preop exercises that your surgeon gives you and doing the at home exercises after your surgery are very important and will be very very helpful to help you recover quicker by following your doctors orders ,what they tell you to do makes a huge difference.Always follow what your surgeon and PT tells you.
Agree with Mrpaulgs....my physio recommended minimal rear flex in the first two weeks. It’s all about straightening the leg to begin with. Trying to flex as shown in this vid could have caused some major damage.....that scar looked mature. Well over 1-2 weeks ....also if he was rushing back to work in that time frame all you should be asking is “why”?
Wow 2 weeks after surgery and you are already at work. I am now week 5 into my surgery the doctor stopped pain meds in week 4 so I have a lot of pain just being on Tylenol but I am hoping the burning will go away soon.
Really? How are you now? Do you already feel so much better? My 1st knee surgery is Feb 1 2022! I hope to get the other knee done Sept 2022. I work from home, do you think it will be possible for me to walk down the hallway to my ofc for work about 3 weeks after surgery or no?
@@AmazeVictoria yes, I'm on day 2 after my tkr and I can walk with the assistance of my walker. Still lots of swelling (even with lots of icing) and pain. Take your medication (not medical advice). Ice, elevation, and movement very important.

I'm going for a total knee replacement and following recovery getting the other one done. Unfortunately I'm not getting a personal therapist. I'll be luck if my insurance will pay twice a week. I'm not Al Roker. Greatful he's well. He's truly blessed.
I wish Al could tell me what his doctor did to get him up in two weeks. My doctor has indicated I will be off for 12 weeks. I don't know any doctor or anyone that had a replacement being told or able to return to work in two weeks.
I just had mine done and 2 weeks ago and I am doing as well as Al. The trick is pain medication before your therapist works with you so you can do the movements. I received twice the normal amount given because 1 pill did not work for me, they increaed it up to two 10mg norco and since the pain was mostly relieve I could do more and I had plenty of time to ice my knee during the day. I never got high or anything from the pain meds, it just took about 80 percent of the pain away. After the exercise the pain went up again and I put the ice on it. I am walking, doing the stairs, working in my garden, but remember after doing this the ice goes back on. Good Luck
J Elliott Thanks for the feedback. My surgery was postponed due to a cyst under my chin. I am grateful the doctor's caught the infection . I am still going forward in the fall. I don't do so well on strong meds. I will check back later this year.

I'm 35 and I just had a full knee replacement in 5 weeks. I'm a diabetic and my recovery is going slow. I hate the pain meds. The machine I use helps. But still a slow recovery. AL is so lucky. VA insurance for me
I’m one month out from a total right knee! Therapy is hard but honestly very important! My bending and straightening are almost 100% back but swelling and discomfort continue! Rough surgery tbh
@shannon Gnazzio. I'm 2 weeks out. I reached 120 degrees by myself and 126 with a belt. Swelling and upper leg muscles being hammered by the tourniquet are the only things holding me back. I only took the meds to get through the PT. You can't do it without them. I hope you're doing better.
Great job Al I'm glad to here you are doing well with knee replacement, I m from Baltimore and I went to union memorial with Dr. Ebert and him and his team were great , now I just have to get my other knee done , may God bless you..
Had knee replacement surgery three weeks ago and just home from rehab first week. Depression is not noted but is issue- feels totally dependent, healing, not able to be in life, isolation

I could not bend my knee, lift my leg, or walk without a walker for the first three weeks after my full knee replacement (June 22, 2019) and I am much younger than Al, and in better shape.
And I’m a 60-year-old overweight female who had mine replaced 19 days ago. I’ve been driving and off ALL pain meds for a week. I’m not as far along as he is, but I bet if someone had access to the best care and therapy available, that person would progress much faster than average. We all heal differently
No, at least I don’t think so. It’s a bear of a surgery/recovery, but yesterday for the first time I had two occasions, each less than a minute, where I realized I was walking totally without pain. It gave me great hope and confidence that I can do this.
What’s your point? I’m still hurting a lot, but I’m pushing myself as hard as I can. This is a brutal process. The PT says I’m ahead of schedule on walking, but right where he’d expect as far as flexion and extension (97 degrees and 1 degree). The only point I was making is that Al Roker has money and probably the best therapy available, so that could very well help him to be ahead of the game compared to others at the same point of recovery.
Three men in my church have had bilateral tkr’s. All of them were fit, active, and proper weight. One has recovered fully, no pain, full function; one has no pain, but only 90 flexion in one leg; the third man has had a MUA and a revision and is still in excruciating pain two years later. This surgery seems to be very unpredictable as far as outcomes. I was in constant pain and opted to go ahead with it because it gave me hope.

Everyone has a different experience with this. I'm 2 weeks out and for the first week I couldn't lift my leg (Tourniquet destroyed my upper leg muscles). My PT people say I am doing better than most. 120 Degrees by myself after 2 weeks, (126 with the help of a belt). Just this 2nd week could I begin to lift my leg. The quad muscles just bounced on and off for the first week when I tried to use them. Upper leg was all kinds of black and blue, quad and hamstring. The PT people said some people have trouble from the tourniquet some don't. No where have I heard that you can go back to work after 2 weeks. I'm looking at 6 weeks minimum, mainly due to swelling after use.
You obviously get what you pay for .. didn't sleep after surgery for 36 hours due to pain. Was up on crutches and sent home on day 2 .. up and down stairs on crutches at home no physio at home just handed a leaflet.. with exercises to do .. almost 4 weeks on its swollen and tight. .I still have pain and it won't bend past 90 ..
I have done my PT 3 times a day. 2nd week I'm at 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute walk afterwards (x3). Week 1 was 10 reps each exercise. Week 2 was 15 reps.
If only we could all get new knees in our later years in life. I should be able to but you just never know with recessions and inflation every 10 or so years.
Talking about knee replacement , my doctor told me I'm bone to bone , I'm still working with pain on my knees , doctor told me to have knee replacement,or be in severe all the time , I'm still thinking about it. It going to be done on June 20 , 2019 , what about my situation?

The PT people said some people have trouble from the tourniquet some don't. No where have I heard that you can go back to work after 2 weeks. I'm looking at 6 weeks minimum, mainly due to swelling after use.
He have that good doctor money I'm sure his surgery not as bad as others are
A little too theatrical however interesting. Would have been better if you had shown how you prepared physically before the surgery.
I'm coming up next. Thanks for this video.
Less than 2 weeks after knee surgery back at work???
Nice
Al that must have been brutal for you. It was for me and I took it a lot slower to recover
Two weeks out is awfully early for some of the exercises they had him doing
Not two weeks guaranteed
2 weeks is very unlikely.
ICE ICE BABY LOL!!!
Stairs...ohhh no!
He had weight loss surgery
Ice ice baby 😂 glad he ok
Exercises, once or twice a day physical therapy?
Was it 2 sets of 10 or 3 sets of 10?
Big fan of the Today shows 😁😎😊
Good questions!
I have done my PT 3 times a day. 2nd week I'm at 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute walk afterwards (x3). Week 1 was 10 reps each exercise. Week 2 was 15 reps.
Ladies, watch out for Matt and his "desk button." Yikes!

If only we could all get new knees in our later years in life. I should be able to but you just never know with recessions and inflation every 10 or so years.
