    Hello Landon! Thanks for posting this. I am an engineer so I probably could have figured this out on my own but to be honest, I didn't want to. You saved me so much time googling and (most likely) some costly trial and error (losing my payload in the North Atlantic in January, getting in trouble with the FAA, running out of batteries, etc.). I'm building this up with my 6 year old as part of my "what the heck do I do to educate my child during COVID" plan. Thanks for the calculators, the instructions, and the inspiration.

    Congratulations guys ! That was a great job ! That's impressive from students. I didn't know how hard you worked for this launch until this video ! I hope this will inspire many other students to follow your example, to prepare their flights very carefully, and to go further into understanding balloon flights. Thank you all !

      The gopros create quite a bit of heat themselves, so they did quite well in the cold. I also thought that the cold would be a problem, but actually it turned out that when I insulated the gopros, they got overheated!
      Also they are in the extreme cold only about 10-20 minutes, so it is not that bad.

    Landon, good presentation. You have a future in broadcast journalism :) I'm actually not very far from you in Pensacola and planning my 1st launch. Question: You said the SPOT gen 3 will track up to 120,000 ft. I read it stops around 60,000 ft and then starts again during the descent around 15,000 ft. Did yours track the entire flight? Thanks, Peter

    “I called a local Navy base about launching a balloon with cameras and they thought I was talking about launching bombs…”
    Fun Fact: The military by default is going to view any such calls with a healthy amount of side eye… probably best to craft a well written / thorough letter with the exact purpose of your launch, payload details, etc, contact info, and then request a meeting with the base commander or their designated officer in charge of public relations / public affairs / air safety / etc… probably helps to talk to FAA first to make sure everything is within limits / spec and you are free of any controlled airspace otherwise it will be an uphill battle right from the jump.

    • @cerealman2751
      @cerealman2751 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Third world country was a term used to describe countries that were neutral or non-aligned to the Soviet Union after the cold war. This included countries like: Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Austria and several others. I'm assuming that this comment is referring to the United States, which was considered a first world country at the time.
      The word you are most likely looking for is undeveloped or developing country, which is still incorrect since the United States is considered to be one of the few developed countries in the world.
      Though I agree the imperial system is inferior to the metric system, at least try to get your information correct.
