    One of my favorite Tim Burton movie, with excellent (Halloween) atmosphere. Always loved the small Dutch history of New England interwoven into this, and the Dutch names got evolved into American language.

    This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. I lived in Sleepy Hollow for a while and folks take the Legend pretty seriously. They take history pretty seriously too. This has very little to do with either, but it is a lot of fun.

    "Villainy wears many masks, none so dangerous as the mask of virtue."
    Fun Fact: Johnny Depp adopted Goldeneye, the horse that played Gunpowder, Ichabod Crane's horse in this film, when he heard it was going to be put down.
    Action Actor Fact: Johnny Depp did all of his own stunts for the final scene where he is dragged by the horse. He had bullet-proof clothing underneath his wardrobe.
    Historical Fact: Washington Irving claimed that Ichabod Crane and Katrina Van Tassel were real people. Ichabod Crane was based on Colonel Ichabod Bennet Crane, who was born in 1787 and fought in the War Of 1812. Washington Irving and Colonel Ichabod Crane had met in 1814 at Fort Pike located on Lake Ontario in Sackets Harbor, New York.

    • @DavidvsFilm
      @DavidvsFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Loooved that quote, and the tidbit about the horse. Like Viggo buying that horse on LotR. The sign of great humans :)
      And that is cool about him doing the stunts! Surprised that they (and the insurance carrier) would allow it, but try telling Johnny Depp 'no', I guess lol.
      I had actually heard that about the characters being based on real people. I really like reading up on and learning the history of this time period. Thanks so much as always for the comment :)

    I will gladly chime in that I saw this at least twice in the theatres - because its creepy atmosphere was generally so nicely realized - but the sight of the film’s Headless Horseman in action, as portrayed by Ray Park, with accompanying head-removal visual effects, is *one of the most impressive visual effects fantasy characters ever to appear onscreen* . I thought it was done that well, it needs a special nod.

    • @DavidvsFilm

      AbsolUTELy agree with you! And even the little details with the effects such as when we see the beheading of the midwife's husband, and you briefly see the steam coming off the neck. Gruesome and well-done.

    Great reaction!🥰 I remember seeing the preview for this movie in the theater. I couldn’t wait for it to come out. Once it was released, I was finally able to see it. Absolutely loved it! The setting; the style; the stars ⭐️ You had a number of names and pointed out some actors. Christopher Lee was in Star Wars; he portrayed Count Dooku. But I didn’t hear you mention the more menacing force in that cast. That would be the actor who played Dr. Thomas Lancaster. That would be Ian McDiarmid. He was also in Star Wars who played Senator Palpatine (aka the Lord Sith aka The Emperor). Ian McDiarmid and Christopher Lee share screen time together in an early scene of Revenge of the Sith. Senator Palpatine convinces Anakin Skywalker to kill Count Dooku. Ironically, he is killed by having his head chopped off. How Sleepy Hallow! 🎃

    6 times I have rewinded this and I STILL can’t comprehend the joke Marc made at the start, the what from you killed me I’m in the same boat😂😂 I enjoyed this movie it’s my first time seeing it, I absolutely loved the feeling of this movie, which leads me to a question, if you had to name a town for a Halloween movie what would it be and would the setting be now like the Halloween movies or something like this way back when with the gothic theme ?

    • @DavidvsFilm
      @DavidvsFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're talking about the joke he makes at the very very beginning, in the "Coming Up" section, he's saying, "Nice 'n Easy 105", referring to at-home hair dye. If it's something else though, tell me the minute mark and I can probably figure it out lol.
      What an AMAZING QUESTION about the town for a Halloween movie... ok so off the top of my head I'm thinking the town would be called Shadow Falls or Shadows Hollow, something like that. But it would actually be a very bright, cheery looking place with a small-town vibe to it. Homes that look like the Truman Show or Stepford Wives, but there are dark secrets. And the street names are odes to the horror greats like Strode Lane or Voorhees Drive.

And some Mel Brooks.

    • @Bagofsoup
      @Bagofsoup 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidvsFilm nice! The only issue with Mel brooks parodies is they heavily borrow from certain movies, so if you watch space balls then it makes total sense after watching Star Wars 4-6. And if you watch Robin Hood Men in Tights, you will miss half the jokes if you don’t see Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood Prince of Thieves that came right before it. Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood is based on Kevin Costner’s one the most, plus the Disney cartoon one, plus the original one back in the day.
      And I still want to see you take Mark through the Star Wars movies in timeline order, starting with the prequels 1-3, which you haven’t seen, maybe Obi wan show (6 episodes), Han Solo Movie, Rogue One movie, movies 4-6, etc. Then you could decide on Mandalorian show and movies 7-9. Just space in a trilogy here or there. And did you do the rocky series at all? Rocky 1-6 and Creed 1-2 are brilliant. Only Rocky 5 is a bit hit and miss but still decent and required for the series. Have fun!

    Does Sleepy Hollow actually exist?
    Yes. Washington Irving, who wrote the short story, grew up just south of it. I've been there many times. It's awesome.
    Oh...and if you visit, on Broadway/Highway 9, just before the Old Dutch Church, there is a sign that says this was where the bridge was as depicted in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow... not true... if you walk north along that small river next to the church... you can see the remnants of the bridge Washington Irving knew as a kid when he went there... the main road was BEHIND the church back then, not in front of it.

    Nice and spooky. My main criticism is there are too many beheadings -- there's a diminishing returns effect for me. Minor thing. Glad you brought up It Follows. I think Marc could handle that just fine and it's a good one for a reaction anyway.

      Hey Michael, yeah that's fair fair fair. I can totally see your point. The atmosphere is honestly about 65% of it for me. If this were a tale set in Des Moines in the Summer of 1982, I can't say it'd have the same effect for me. lol

      Hey you BARELY have to tempt me!! To be fair, I'm afraid it would be an uneventful reaction from ME since I've seen it (especially the first few episodes of season 1 several times) but Marc hasn't. And I think he would like the concept. I kinda fell off and stopped watching later- some of the characters they added bugged me, or when they branched out into other characters' story lines, etc- but overall I LOVE the theme, LOVE the concept, and LOVE LOVE the main two actors.

    • @fuzethehostagegaming9704
      @fuzethehostagegaming9704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidvsFilm A duo reaction would be cool! A new experience for Marc and some friendly banter between the two of you during the lesser episodes would make for a lovely reaction in my opinion! I do have to agree that some added characters weren't really interesting and that towards the end they kinda fumbled the bag, but looking back on the hellscape the production went through in the later half I always try to look past some of the problems.
      Sorry for the essay lol

    Is there some gang of patreon people who subscribe to all movie reactors and get them to do the same movies? Last week everybody did Cabin in the woods, this week everybody's doing Sleep Hollow. It's weird. And a bit creepy.

    • @DavidvsFilm
      @DavidvsFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha I definitely get the unsettling vibe of thinking there’s an IllumiPatreonati out there dictating content. If there is, I can guarantee you I’m not big enough to be a member. :) For me, Cabin in the Woods won a poll I put out over a month ago for Halloween movie suggestions, and Sleepy Hollow was a direct suggestion from an individual. So technically they both came from Patreon, yes, but in my experience I think it’s just a bizarre coincidence.

    If you ever do come visit Sleepy Hallow, also visit the Headless Horseman Haunted Attractions in Ulster Park. It's one of the top rated Haunted House/Hayrides in the US and has even been featured on Travel Channel shows. It draws celebrities to visit year after year.
