Brilliant! I'm a medieval reenactor with young kids and we LOVE playing historical board games. I'm off to make us our own Senet board so we can try out your rules. Thanks so much for sharing!

Another ancient game is the royal game of ur. 4500 yrs old !! It is a blast to play and it has variations also. I made one and we just love it as much as senet if not more.

From what I read it seems Twenty Squares was found on the other side of Senet. Basically like Checker and Backgammon or Checkers and Chess.

The last houses are House of Happiness, Water, 3 Judges, 2 Judges, Horus

The person commenting that Ra is the last square is wrong. It is Horus. And the second last square is Judges. Minor detail.
Here is something more important, and if you look at actual hieroglyphs of people playing, you will agree. The game pieces do not start in alternate positions. The first row of the board is only a holding area for the pieces, normally positioned with five cones and then five spindles. It is the so called 11th square that begins the race to the afterlife.

this is a game which was played in a time of period of 4000 years. The rules were probably modified over time and so the board. The game pieces start in alternate positions as well, check the paintings on the tomb walls of Khety At Beni Hasan or Sennedjem. The game started probably from the first row. In time of later dynasties, the game became more religious meaning and sometimes all the squares of the boards were fully pictured; they put this game in the tombs or painted on the walls, because the person had to win this game in order to overcome the challenges caused by his enemies on the other side....
