The Mritangashyleshwari Temple is one of the ancient temples in Kerala. The deity here was worshipped by the Kottayam Royal family. The legendary King Pazhasshiraja worshipped the goddess here as Porkali Devi before going for war.
The temple gained popularity after retired DGP Alexander Jacob revealed a miraculous story of the temple idol.

രാമചന്ദ്രൻ കടമ്പേരി ക്ഷേത്ര ഐതിഹ്യത്തെയും ചൈതന്യത്തേയും പറ്റി വിശദമായും ഹൃദ്യമായും സംസാരിച്ചു. പക്ഷെ, പിന്നിൽ നിന്നുമുള്ള കഠിനമായ ശബ്ദം പ്രയാസമുണ്ടാക്കി.
