Couple of things really jumped out at me from this video. As well as being really clear, straight in to the subject and constantly showing actual footage from the Camera all the way through, big thing? The "This is what camera this is being filmed on" subtitle! A LOT of the so called expert camera channels could learn a lot here. Thank you.
Good evening everybody; As I already commented on another Tamara’s video, I had the same problem as her with even more exchanges with DJI as I had to exchange it 3 times !! All first 3 cameras were from 08/22 or 09/22. I asked DJI to send me a newer camera as their summer production looked all bad; they agreed and received the 4th one from 11/22 (Like Tamara) and this one WORKS ; long process, but for the one of you who would like this camera instead of a GoPro, do not hesitate : 1/ you will probably receive now a new produced unit (but check…) 2/ test your image quality upon reception ( film a steady image in good light then zoom in in post production ( at least x2 but not something crazy !!) and you will immediately see if good or not (do not use Rocksteady for the test and put the camera on a steady platform) 3/ be sure that DJI Support will do their job and will change the unit in case of problem. DJI was surely bad in the initial production of OA3 and official communication about the problem, but their support department (for me it was European center in Netherland) was absolutely helpful and they did their best. (I’m not a DJI employee 😂)
I have a question. How can I find the production date of the Action 3? I want to buy one but need to be sure it's not a "faulty" one. Thanks for any info and help.
@@2limbo It seems it's not labeled in the camera info, but if you still have the box, it's clearly written close to the barcode, close to th serial number.
Sounds like the action 3 is a great camera now that the updates have been released and for the same or similar price you get the action pack, which would be very useful for difficult situations. Action 3 is the bargain deal that I’m definitely looking at. Thanks for the video, I’ve learnt a bit more from it.
I really don't like how the image basically turns black and white in shadows basically. DJI is really overcompensating for chroma noise and the oversharpening is also quite nasty. Wondering if there are image parameters which allow for adjusting noise reduction and sharpening like on the DJI Mini 3 Pro, where both can basically be turned off for the most part which makes a many times better image, especially in low light.
@@TamaraGabrielUK I hope so too. Can finally shoot at ISO1600 even without any crazy quality loss, while before the image was quite awful starting from ISO400. Basically no chroma information but occasional chroma blobs/clouds in shadows, no texture either but tons of noise, also tonality was quite bad. Now shadows look clean without all the sharpening and NR.
Sadly, the image oversharpening is ruining this camera imo. I think it would be an excellent action cam if DJI added a sharpness setting, like we have on Gopro.

Thanks for chiming in. Was considering the DJI as a replacement for my GoPro 8. I always use the 8 in flat settings (everything) and process the pics in Shot cut The Dji is suddenly not so interersting anymore.
I know a lot of people have issues with GoPros with the crashing and overheating but I’ve not had the same bad experience, but that is just my experience. It’s a shame it’s been unreliable for a lot of people because the camera is great otherwise.

Really? You couldn't see the difference? What kind of monitor are you looking at this on? You're not going to see the difference on a cell phone. I'm looking at my, 40 inch computer LCD. Which is nothing really great on the resolution. Being a big box store sale item a few years ago. It's not even current. It's a whopping 1080 monitor. And the difference I see is appreciable. It's markable. With your enhancement turned on. Which one would expect. And for something to upload right out of the camera. I believe that will net you better results. With that enhancement turned on. But for proper, postproduction. Maybe that's not desirable? I guess it all comes down to, what the contract specifies. To deliver for your client. And then you either make it happen or you don't. Most professionals, succeed. And we don't make excuses when there is a problem. I think it's all in how you look at something. If anything grabs your interest? And nothing grabbed you and no one. What is the intended, application? What might need to be enhanced? And why? A little highlight? A glint, in someone's eye? The glistening of their skin? Perhaps only brought out with, enhancement engaged. And when you are largely delivering, raw content. What's this spec require? Delivery from the camera or a later upload. After it passes through your, experienced eyes and hands. And you tweak the picture for delivery or, not. Depending upon the, requirement in the contract. I am thinking of buying the osmo action 3 for motorcycle riding videos. I have bought gopros in the past and they've always crashed or overheated and it's cheaper even with adventure combo
Excellent report and review - in which I have no actual interest because I'm sticking with the Action 2, but it's good to see such a quality upload for its own sake! Sadly, I suspect the Action 3 problems (not to mention the Action 2 overheating problems) may have delayed the release of the Pocket 3, which may well persuade me to put my hand in my... pocket. And of course they have probably also suffered delays due to the covid issues in China. Anyway I'm glad you are finally able to post a positive review!
I feel like the Action 3 battery lasts slightly longer, but it’s not too far ahead, as the enduro battery is really good. H10 is still great, I still have mine and use it alongside the H11.

i still havent bought the action 3 cause of the focus problem. i dont want to fight with the shop to get a replacement. im affraid they will say: solve it with DJI.
I have an action 4 and the footage seems out of focus and blurry. Most footage online including this looks much better, was the issue with the camera itself or the firmware becuase im on the latest update. the action 3 in this video looks better than my 4
The HDR video is most noticed in post when you can enhance the dynamic range, reduce shadows, and pop colors. All by itself, it would not be much of a difference. Are you shooting in RAW?

How to know if the Action 3 that I want to buy is already updated with 10-Bit or not? I have heard that any production after 11-2022 is updated but I am not sure if its reliable or not
OBVIOUSLY NOT your fault. Just wanted to make you and followers aware. I received my first Action 3 earlier this week. I have today tested my SECOND Action 3. BOTH manufactured November 2022. BOTH have focusing issues. Build quality excellent, and so are menus and functions, as is the Mimo App. I love the fact that compression can be set to H264 as well as the default H265. I believe that everything about the Action 3 is better than the Hero 11 EXCEPT image quality when the Action 3 doesn't focus due to a hardware manufacturing issue. Great features, which beat the competition, on a camera which doesn't focus, means the Action 3 is useless. I am going to ask for a 3rd one. If that doesn't focus, I will be asking for a full refund. I have better things to do with my time than continually ask for useless cameras to be replaced with more useless cameras. Very best regards, and keep delivering the great vlogs!

I think it's still risky to buy. There was no recall on the faulty units that I know of so it would be a gamble because you won't know if you get a revised camera or a faulty one still in circulation until you test it.
The focus issue. It was a hardware issue. Did they change out the casing / lens with the new units being sold? I talked it over with a photographer friend who didn’t own a DJI and immediately he knew it was a lens issue.
If you haven’t noticed that the footage is out of focus then you probably don’t have an issue, because it’s quite obvious in comparison to one without the issue, like I showed in this video.

I returned mine not because of image issue per se but because the audio control for external mic wasn't great. Well, DJI issued me a refund and the customer service I received was incredible. I mean it was absolutely the best. Wouldn't you know it, in the new firmware they have fixed the audio issue (gain control below zero) so in theory external mic will be usable in many situations. Guess I'll be buying another one in the Spring. Great video. Perhaps you can try out the audio with an external mic for us????

I was looking into getting this camera,but after seeing all the controversy with the focus,and now seeing you got 2 faulty cameras in a row,I really don't wanna go through the hassle. Were the faulty units from specific batch or its just the luck of the draw?
Seriously. I'll probably buy a used one sometime next year that is confirmed to be issue free. I live in a country where returns are basically impossible and exchanges are a struggle lol
The first two cameras were from the 08/22 batch, my latest one was 11/22. So I guess those batches are fine. I would imagine that DJI are shipping the newer batches now.
There's one thing about the GoPro 11 that you haven't mentioned which is important to me. With the GoPro you can select the area for exposure, which in a scene with high dynamic range means you can select for highlights so they don't blow out. As you have shown in the link, if you compare footage of the two cameras in a scene with high dynamic range , the GoPro shows details in the shadows whereas the AC3 doesn't. The GoPro is a better camera , but whether it's worth the extra money , depends on what the user is going to use it for.
Better quality yes, but reliability ? They're notorious for overheating and freezing. I am currently looking to get a camera for all kinds of sports and while seeing go pro 11 superior quality, i have stumbled upon videos expressing flaws of them and now I am thinking about getting dji instead.
Hey Tamara absolutely love your videos!! Just warning people not to buy the DJI Osmo Action 3 unless manufactured after10/22. I had to send 2 Action 3 cameras back. The 1st one was manufactured 9/22 and the second camera was 10/22 (the 2nd camera was sent from DJI support). Your videos give me hope that eventually I will be able to get an Osmo Action 3 that actually doesn't have the mushy video issues!! Had Amazon refund my money after the second bad camera!! No I don’t have the Z 30, I had it on loan for several weeks so that I could try it out and see how it was. Really liked it though. If I was looking for a small APC-S camera that would be one of my top choices.
Thanks for the comparison, I have noticed something interesting!!! Haven't you feel that the greens, trees, branches, in the background looks washed on the Gopros image. I found that details, below the light luminance level getting noisy and loosing details even in low ISO values.
@@TamaraGabrielUK I did look into the wireless mic from DJI but the price point is a tad rich lol almost the same price as the action camera, however I did come across the Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C. I’ll give that a try and if the quality isn’t satisfactory I’ll return it and get the DJI Wireless.

Does the osmo do 4K120 with 10 bit? Gopro does since the newest patch 2.01

You don't just have to use the DJI Mic, any USB-C mic should work fine

If the one get isn’t updated you’ll just be able to update the firmware

I think it's still risky to buy. There was no recall on the faulty units that I know of so it would be a gamble because you won't know if you get a revised camera or a faulty one still in circulation until you test it.
I would imagine if buying from DJI you would get one from the new batch, which shouldn’t have issues. But maybe I’m wrong.

The focus issue. It was a hardware issue. Did they change out the casing / lens with the new units being sold?
I talked it over with a photographer friend who didn’t own a DJI and immediately he knew it was a lens issue.

The new unit didn’t have a focus issue. Firmware won’t fix a focus issue, it’s a hardware problem.

Yeah, unfortunately it seems like older units are also still being shipped from what I’ve heard from other people.
The GoPro has a USB Audio adapter, in case you don't want to use MediaMod.

If you haven’t noticed that the footage is out of focus then you probably don’t have an issue, because it’s quite obvious in comparison to one without the issue, like I showed in this video.

Action 3 footage looks close to the Sony, in terms of quality. Amazing how things change. The Action 3 is amazing.

try a different usb port on the computer then another usb data cable if that doesn't work
I returned mine not because of image issue per se but because the audio control for external mic wasn't great. Well, DJI issued me a refund and the customer service I received was incredible. I mean it was absolutely the best. Wouldn't you know it, in the new firmware they have fixed the audio issue (gain control below zero) so in theory external mic will be usable in many situations. Guess I'll be buying another one in the Spring. Great video. Perhaps you can try out the audio with an external mic for us????

I'm wondering whether you've tested your (new) Action 3 underwater yet... in a swimming pool / at the beach / in a stream... A major reason for me considering buying it, is because I want a good waterproof camera to use in the swimming pool with the kids, including to film some fun underwater videos. Could you perhaps include some underwater tests in a next video?
I haven't done any underwater tests yet, but maybe I'll brave a trip out on my paddleboard if the lake isn't frozen.
I was looking into getting this camera,but after seeing all the controversy with the focus,and now seeing you got 2 faulty cameras in a row,I really don't wanna go through the hassle. Were the faulty units from specific batch or its just the luck of the draw?
Seriously. I'll probably buy a used one sometime next year that is confirmed to be issue free. I live in a country where returns are basically impossible and exchanges are a struggle lol
The first two cameras were from the 08/22 batch, my latest one was 11/22. So I guess those batches are fine. I would imagine that DJI are shipping the newer batches now.

I recommend Wide. Standard looks soft
what LUT do you use to correct d-cine ? the DJI website is over saturated

Dji action 3 has been such a gift to gopro, must have boosted their sales.
Yep I am about ready to go to go pro and be honest I do not like go pros at all. DJI though is really giving me no choice.

my simple test suggests it uses usb power during a recording when plugged in and the battery charge remains steady until the recording is stopped

There's one thing about the GoPro 11 that you haven't mentioned which is important to me.
With the GoPro you can select the area for exposure, which in a scene with high dynamic range means you can select for highlights so they don't blow out.
As you have shown in the link, if you compare footage of the two cameras in a scene with high dynamic range , the GoPro shows details in the shadows whereas the AC3 doesn't.
The GoPro is a better camera , but whether it's worth the extra money , depends on what the user is going to use it for.
Better quality yes, but reliability ? They're notorious for overheating and freezing. I am currently looking to get a camera for all kinds of sports and while seeing go pro 11 superior quality, i have stumbled upon videos expressing flaws of them and now I am thinking about getting dji instead.
go pro is too unreliable. DJI is much better overall

Hey Tamara absolutely love your videos!! Just warning people not to buy the DJI Osmo Action 3 unless manufactured after10/22. I had to send 2 Action 3 cameras back. The 1st one was manufactured 9/22 and the second camera was 10/22 (the 2nd camera was sent from DJI support). Your videos give me hope that eventually I will be able to get an Osmo Action 3 that actually doesn't have the mushy video issues!! Had Amazon refund my money after the second bad camera!! Have great day.

No I don’t have the Z 30, I had it on loan for several weeks so that I could try it out and see how it was. Really liked it though. If I was looking for a small APC-S camera that would be one of my top choices.

Thanks for the comparison, I have noticed something interesting!!! Haven't you feel that the greens, trees, branches, in the background looks washed on the Gopros image. I found that details, below the light luminance level getting noisy and loosing details even in low ISO values.
I really want to use the action 3 for Moto Vlogging but can’t find a got Lavalier Mic for my helmet 😢
Would the DJI Wireless Mic work?
@@TamaraGabrielUK I did look into the wireless mic from DJI but the price point is a tad rich lol almost the same price as the action camera, however I did come across the Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C. I’ll give that a try and if the quality isn’t satisfactory I’ll return it and get the DJI Wireless.
