In 1990/91? I saw Tony play (snooker) against Stephen Hendry in a major tournament when Hendry was dominating World snooker.Tony lost 5-4 but it was a hell of a match and he was even quicker then than now,20ish stone almost running around the table.
I heard a long time ago that the reason Tony plays so fast is that when he was a kid playing snooker with his mates in Malta, the lamp over the table was coin-operated on a timer so they played quickly to get the most out of their pocket money!
    Respect to the big man.

Love how Tony was smiling and seemed to be in good humor at the end of the match. Wish all the players would act the same!

Agree! It also looks like Tony worked a lot with his temper during play too. I'm not saying he used to be impolite towards his opponents, he just used to literally smack his own head when missing, letting his temper get the better of him.
He still plays very fast, does miss here and there, but I don't think he would benefit from slowing down his game anyway, he needs that pace to be his best.
      Great match!

He sat down after making the one because it was an illegal break. Not all tournaments use the rule. He made one ball and needed two balls to be above the head string for it to be legal.

When you practice enough drills and play enough games it becomes muscle memory. Minnesota Fats would shoot faster. In fact, fats wouldn't even bend over, he just step up and shoot lol. There's others too. Sometimes I shoot fast, it's like I'm running around the pool table shot to shot .

Combination of making 3 balls or 3 past the headstring, Shane made one, one came past the headstring, but a third ball failed to be pocketed or move past the headstring so Tony was allowed to take over the table. All to prevent soft cut breaks since they don’t use a break box.

Its called the 3-point rule. A legal break requires a combination of 3 balls pocketed or crossing the second diamond from the top of the table. In this case one ball was pocketed, so two more balls would need to either be pocketed or cross into "the kitchen"
