That was actually Herobrine. He saw the king take the staff from his keep while he was away,which leads to him eventually attacking the kings kingdom,and leading to the events of fallen kingdom

I think the creatures are his creations. We see a giant one in Take Back the Night when the prince goes to fight Herobrine.

Fun fact shriekers give you 4 chances as in 3 freebies of no warden but on the 4th set off of the shrieker will spawn the warden
