    My husband had rectal cancer and ended up with a colostomy in 2005. It was a very big problem for him if he was constipated and his doctor recommended the Amazon knock off!
    His doctor was the head of the Colorectal surgery department at Cleveland clinic and he was angry at the cost of the name brand and the lengths the company had gone to to get doctors to recommend it to their patients. As he said, he could have taken his entire family to Bora Bora for 3 weeks if he had agreed to take the trip and recommend the name brand which was bad enough but not at all unusual. What angered him was that they were not even giving him free samples to give his patients and they wanted him to tell his patients that the knock off was dangerous and could cause their cancer to return!
    He said that he would not lie to his patients especially if they were able to read the labels and they would see the ingredients were 100% the same!
    What would his patients think of anything he told them!?
    I respected him so much for that and for telling us the truth about why he was so adamant that we get any generic that had the same ingredients but the Amazon was the best deal he'd found thus far.

    Palm oil is high in saturated fat. But worse, it's being blamed for destroying natural habitats of already endangered species like the Orangutan, pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino. Plus, it's probably cheaper per ounce than roasted almonds, so you get an actually better ingredient for less money per ounce with the amazon one. They probably make the other for people that want a peanut butter-like product. Keep them on their toes and keep them honest, Vivian!

    • @Pythonaria
      @Pythonaria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      If I'm buying almond butter or peanut butter, if I see palm oil on the label I put it back on the shelf. Apart from the habitats of the animals you mention being destroyed, palm oil is actually very bad for you and has been associated with certain types of cancers.

      Thank you for posting this with detailed information. I was going to say it but you said it all and there is no doubt, knock off is cheaper, tastes better and stronger almond flavor because it's not thinned with palm oil. It's better for your health and most importantly, it's better for the planet!
      Almond harvesting has its own issues due to the amount of water it requires and MOST almonds are grown in California where water is in short supply as it is.

    Palm oil is just so non ethical and is the cause of deforestation. For that reason I don’t like products that contain it.
    The pods for coffee I just can’t do either. I still use either a percolator or my French press or my old school espresso pot. Only waste is a single bag from beans and the wonderful compost.

    • @dawnlittle946
      @dawnlittle946 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’m
      Curious how palm oil is the cause of deforestation? It’s made from the fruit of palm trees - much like orange juice is made from the fruit of orange trees and avocado oil is made from the fruit of avocado trees and coconut oil is made from the fruit of a coconut tree. If you cut down the trees you can only harvest them once - and that only if they are baring fruit at the time you cut them down. Makes more sense - from a business perspective- to keep the trees and harvest them year after year. 🤷‍♀️

    According to the FDA, all medication must have the same active ingredient. The INACTIVE ingredients may be vastly different, but unless you are allergic to something specific in that knock off medicine (always read the labels), then it should be okay to take. I always buy the generic for medication, why do people spend the money on the name brands? I know a lot of people do and a lot of people think there’s a difference also. Now when it comes to the detergent I feel like that’s something that needs to be used overtime to see if it’s working as well, I have noticed a difference between brands, your clothes will start looking dingy with some brands because it’s not washing out all of the dirt and oils in your clothes and that takes time to start to show.

    Love you Viv!! 💗
    My weird medicine love, is alka seltzer plus cold. It's always good for what ails ya 😅 And to make it even weirder, I also add salt. Some Lucas Limon Salt makes it even better 😄🤦

    Big spoon roasters has an article on palm oil. Apparently there's no flavor to it, but there's no nutrition to it either. Add the issues making it and it's clear it's not such a hot idea. Good call Vivian!!!

    Maybe I’m just old, but I got tired of lugging those detergent bottles around. Switched to TruEarth. A whole year’s worth of laundry detergent in a few envelopes space. Just order it like you order Amazon. Easy to carry if you have to put in a downstairs laundry room. Great for young people going to a laundromat or apartment folks. Same cleaning power. If there is a stain, I pretreat with my sunlight laundry bar, same as I’ve always done. I don’t use softener, since vinegar does the same but doesn’t leave a residue on your clothes like the softener. You just tear of a strip of the detergent (it’s a dry soap so you are not buying water with your soap like Tide), pop it in the washer and away you go. You actually get the loads you pay for, instead of over filling. It’s worth looking into.

      Like you, I always add a few tablespoons of vinegar to the rinse. I dislike fabric softeners because they leave a waxy residue that never washes out. Also, I add a few tablespoons of ammonia to the wash load, which softens the water so I can use WAY less of whatever detergent and get the same results. Used to use borax for the same purpose but discovered that borax is not water soluble except (temporarily) in very hot water, which I never use, so that was a BIG waste of money!

      How much vinegar do you need to use?

    • @da6885
      @da6885 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuppetBabiesForever No more than about 1/8 cup for a large load; we do only medium loads so 2 or 3 tablespoons.

    I still watch videos on making homemade detergent, but I can't find soap nuts anywhere. I still have an old fashion coffee maker. I taught palm oil was supposed to be for soap making, and was not supposed to be in food. Just go to your farmers market when possible, they have things that are good for washing, and consuming. (like lemons)

    I have used the Amazon detergent and it cleaned very well, very thick and concentrated, but I also add boosters like Oxiclean and Borax so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

    100% almond butter is NOT runny.I make my own- just almonds in the food processor and it is thick. Don't take my word for it, try it. Easy and delicious. I'm skeptical of Amazon 's claim that they're only using almonds and getting such a watery consistency.Maybe they're adding almond oil in which case they can claim using only almonds.Either way, cheaper and tastier making your own.

    • @rgoob4045
      @rgoob4045 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you're right, if it were only DRY almond powder, then why is it that runny, what am I missing, but yeah i'm aware of the oil naturally occurring in almonds, but that much?

    you know you used the same whisk to mix both the laundry detergents. I would think that would ruin the test since both now have some of the other detergents mixed in
