What is biochar and why is it important to apply it to agricultural lands?
Biochar is emerging as the next-generation, mega-scale solution to a range of climate crises. There are just a few of them to mention here.
    Biochar offers:
    1. Mitigation by locking carbon in the form of char into the agricultural fields to enhance productivity and soil health
    2. Adaptation by adding to the degraded soils in order to treat acidity, rigidity, and dryness by its inherence properties of alkalinity, super-expanding porous structure, moisture, and mineral-absorbing quality.
    3. Reducing air pollution by controlled pyrolysis of agricultural wastes and forest-based leaflitter
However, the most beautiful aspect of biochar is that one can easily prepare it on a home, community, or commercial scale and apply it to the soil without requiring any preparatory formalities. The beneficial results can be observed both in the short term and in the long term. Also, there are numerous opportunities for unlimited innovations for wider applications of biochar through a range of value chain measures.
