❤When I hear Karen sing, I feel a deep longing in my soul and for those few moments, nothing else exists except her lovely voice, and how she makes me feel.
I can never hear a Carpenters song without getting emotional, whether it is a sad or a happy emotion. Either way, the sound of Karen's voice always makes me happy. The sadness is that she left us too soon.
@Chuck Manjoume The demon? Is there something wrong with you? Her voice was clearly a God given gift….what the hell does Satan have to do with it?? Fool…
mine as well... no other female singer sings more TO YOU NOT AT YOU and the purity, richness, intimacy and warmth is unmatched.. also she had the most perfect diction and enunciation of any singer male or female i have ever heard..
@@tomschmitz5745 I agree,as much as I loved her voice, there was a theme of sadness running through a lot of her songs and her life which I find to be really tragic, and dying so young.A beautiful young woman with a voice of pure gold.
Her voice was so beautiful but even when she sang the happiest of songs there was a melancholy or sadness there. She was a great drummer. Gone way too soon.
@t san no, it was when they made comments about how "chubby" the drummer was. She's repearwsly stayed how much that offended her. However, there were a lot of "family secrets" that also led to it. People don't become anorexic and bulimic over one thing.
She was an accomplished jazz drummer with great jazz chops. 4 way independence while singing the way she does would be difficult to near impossible for most, but not her. She was just incredibly gifted.
Such a great reaction as always. Yes her voice is very calming, and also very honest - she hides behind nothing which is very captivating. My parents had these records when I was really small so I grew up with these on the turntable. It's nice to see these reactions from people who didn't grow up with this music. Later they would be considered "uncool" but of course this gorgeous music stands the test of time. When my husband bought me a turntable again 6 years ago I bought a lot of these old records and I break them out when no one is home. :)
I love how younger people can instinctively appreciate such beauty. I'm 61. You react no differently to how we did when we first heard it in the the early 70s.
She started out as a drummer. Her brother, and others in the band finally convinced her to be in front and really let people hear her amazing voice. She was never comfortable being out front.
She wasn't just a drummer, she was an outstanding one. In 1975, she was voted as the best rock drummer of the year in a Playboy magazine survey. While female drummers today are still not as common as male drummers, it was unheard of to have a female drummer that was also a lead singer in the 70's.
I believe that there are entertainers in all generations that truly shock people with their talent, voice and emotion. Karen Carpenter was that person and one of the few female singers of the 20th century who just had such a presence and just shined like the sun when she sang. R.I.P. Karen. Unfortunately gone too soon. 😔
Jayy, Thank you for your beautiful reactions, she was a National treasure, gone so young . One of the greatest female vocal artist of all -time , or the greatest . Yes she was an incredible drummer . Rip Karen , an angel in heaven .❤️🙏😔
Such an amazing singer and woman, I wish she could have lived longer, but while she was here she impacted so many many people with her music and talent and beautiful soul......
What’s so amazing is how beautifully perfect she sings and you pull away and she’s playing the drums. To sing a ballad like that pitch perfect and caressing every word as if she is just standing singing is amazing. I’ve seen drummer singers before but not like that. She was one of a kind.
A voice that can melt anyone's heart that is the Karen Carpenter effect. It's touching to see a younger generation discover the Carpenters and get mesmerized.
R.I.P Karen. She was the best and such a funny person.Too bad she didn't love herself as she was. One of the best female drummers...she considered herself a drummer who sang. She glowed behind the drums.
I had one of those day when i just woke up sad for no reason. Then on the way to work i heard a street musician playing what a friend we have in Jesus on a trumpet. That cheered me up. 😊
I’m definitely back with the cool people here, my friend Jayy!! What an insightful reaction and keen eye! Karen started out playing drums, but with that buttery warm voice, the record company wanted out from the drums and front and center on stage. She was very shy and resisted, but she was just a young teen. So, they plopped her out in front with no cover ( plus, she really could play the drums really well) and a magazine commented on her being “chubby,” which she was NOT! Unfortunately, that’s what started her anorexia and ultimately her death. I love her deep, smooth, voice! I’m so happy to be able to leave a comment and see such quality content!! ❤️👍
The magic of her voice for me has always been how effortless it seemed for her. Such clarity, richness and feeling - but it just flowed out of her. Such a treasure to lose.
Karen always said she was a drummer first snd then a singer. You can see her drum solos. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. She was brilliant inside/out. Richards compositions and piano playing are were amazing. You are correct…she’s very soothing and comforting. ❤❤
Her voice was so beautiful - and she made singing sound so effortless. Very few singers have that gift (Andy Williams, who worked with the Carpenters a few times, was one of the handful of others)
I have loved and I have been loved...but always, hidden somewhere in my heart, there is a piece that belongs and I think always will belong to...Karen Carpenter. I miss her so much.
Karen was a fantastic drummer.. her brother Richard edged her into playing AND singing.. he knew they had something, and he let her know how good she was.
Karen Carpenter definitely was a drummer early in her career she played the drums and sang from the drums but they finally brought her out front as the solo singer because she was so good and that started her downfall because she couldn't stand the limelight like that she felt she was too imperfect and she ended up dying because of heart problems brought on by anorexia nervosa.
Sometimes I forget that not everyone remembers that Karen C was one of the great trail blazing drummers - song reccommendation - go international - great New Zealand song by the Netherworld Dancing Toys (yes that name is real) feat Annie Crummer - For Today I remember your smile - I'd like to see if in these difficult times it would make you smile - and being Kiwi I can just about guarantee that not just you but very few of your viewers will have ever heard it so they'll get a first time reaction as well
Everyone is saying the same about her mellow voice(& I agree) this is my favourite carpenter's song because of the lyrics most people on their own can relate to
The great irony of Karen is that her voice did exactly what you say, soothes and calms people, but she had the most tumultuous internal emotional life that ended up in anorexia. Karen did two things for the world, brought us amazing music, and brought to public awareness the problem of anorexia.
Ah sweet Karen. Such a magnificent voice, with an amazing range. From what I remember, she was able to get most takes in one shot. She was an incredible drummer too. How she could play them and sing at the same time has always amazed me. They had trouble with their live shows at first though because if you listen carefully, she and Richard are doing their own background vocals... sometimes as many as 8 tracks deep. Hard to accompany yourself if you're performing live. Oh and I'd love to go back and smack the snot out of the first person who told her she was fat!!!!!!!!!!
I suffer from deep depression. I tend to get severely angry at times. But Karen Carpenter is the only one who can calm me out of my outburst and tears . It's like a calm that sweeps through my body. I remember the day she died. I was my Rainy day !!!!! ........ Feb. 4, 1983: Musician Karen Carpenter dies at 32 from health complications related to anorexia.
this song is so deep to me.. rainy day and monday, was the last time i saw my wife cried..and in the midnight, she was passed @ 2017 october.. she loves this song.. hope she listening it too, up there..
Yes. It's normal to have the blues . You should check out her drum solo. Its incredible. Also Stevie Ray Vaughn Life Without You. It's a song that brings tears to my eyes almost every time I hear it.
Jayy, if you like her voice here, you need to hear her Christmas albums. Her Christmas songs are still around, even now, so many years after her death. You may even recognize one or two of them. Her voice is just perfect for nostalgic Christmas songs. I just love her and I remember when she died -- I was devastated, just like so manly people. Thx for the reaction. 😞😞😞💔💔💔🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
No entendí ni una pizca del idioma, pero aún así me emocioné con tan solo escucharla y ver como tocaba aquella batería al mismo tiempo que cantaba🙌 increiblemente bella la canción

Greatest female singing voice I have ever heard.
Janis Joplin, Sarah Vaughn, Aretha
@@lipby I've heard all of them many times, and love them too. There are many others as well. Karen Carpenter's voice is at the top, for me.
@@tektoniks_architects I agree. Karen's at the top for me and no one else comes close.
Hard to argue against that!
Amen i agree
Her voice is incredible. It's like an instrument with perfect notes every time.
So perfect that her bandmates called her "one take Karen"!!!
I can never hear a Carpenters song without getting emotional, whether it is a sad or a happy emotion. Either way, the sound of Karen's voice always makes me happy. The sadness is that she left us too soon.
Every time I hear her voice I do a bit emotional knowing what we have lost in her death,The Carpenters music always takes me back to a time past.
I agree with you 100% Karen's voice was one of a kind!
She now gives singing lessons to the Angels!
@Chuck Manjoume There's a name for what you got. It's called a-whole-lot-of-stupid.
@Chuck Manjoume The demon? Is there something wrong with you? Her voice was clearly a God given gift….what the hell does Satan have to do with it?? Fool…

@@tomschmitz5745 You perfectly describe the artistry and magic of Karen Carpenter.
Her voice was so beautiful but even when she sang the happiest of songs there was a melancholy or sadness there. She was a great drummer. Gone way too soon.
She thought of herself as a drummer first, and a singer second. There are some great videos of her just drumming that you might want to check out.
It was when they "Pushed" Karen to step out from behind the drums that her health started to suffer.
@t san no, it was when they made comments about how "chubby" the drummer was. She's repearwsly stayed how much that offended her. However, there were a lot of "family secrets" that also led to it. People don't become anorexic and bulimic over one thing.

Best singer ever, average drummer.

“Christmas Portrait” - best Christmas album ever!!
"Her voice is smooth like butter." GREAT LINE!
she was an angel who came down to sing for us

Hauntingly beautiful.

We had a lot of great music back in the 70's.
And it's even sadder to realize that she died of anorexia a number of years later, so she was probably kind of depressed all along.
One of the most beautiful voices. Sadly, she died at only 32 from anorexia.
Thank you for listening to her.
Karen sang like most of us breath. It was just perfection.
;Look up Karen Carpenter, drummer. Best female drummer EVER.
You described her voice perfectly!
Greatest female voice ever, only Etta James comes close. And yes she was a drummer before she was a singer. Great drummer too!
Talent.
Her funeral was on a Monday, and it was raining...😢
Love your reaction girl
The 70s were the peak of Transcendent artists. She was one.
She was named one of the top 100 drummers of all time by Rolling Stone.
THANK YOU ❤
Yea Jayy felt that way many times.
