This song came out in 2000 as a double single with Company Flow. I remember playing it for hours, over and over. Cannibal Ox is a duo, Vast Aire and Vordul. You’ve really hit it out of the park with your selections the last couple days, really feeling the underground tracks.
This was released in 2001. Around this time, underground had a progressive streak with heady lyricists and experimental production. Some called it nerd rap. I saw it as elevating the art. Not for everyone though.
Hip Hop was getting really creative and experimental around this time. Which is what its all about i think. That whole album Cold Vein is a underground gem. Produced all by El-P from Run The Jewels fame. Released on his cult classic label Def Jux. The whole Def Jux catalogue is crazy. Check out "Stress Rap" from this album, heavy bars.
Cannibal Ox is for the LISTENER! Their tracks need multiple listens to catch on. You really should react to this whole album The Cold Vein. This video was posted in 2013 but this album came out back in 2001. Also do the song Metal Gear by the same group.
@@davedennison7386 It’s a classic no doubt. Vordul Mega’s verse is just monstrous. I usually prefer Vast Aire over Vordul but on that Metal Gear track he goes off.
@ 2:56 When he said F**k 5 I want a 108 mics,he's referring to a Hip Hop magazine in the 90's called Source magazine.Source magazine use to rate rap albums by giving them mics,1 mic means the album was trash and it went up to 5 mics,5 mics means the album was an instant classic. He wants 108 mics meaning their album is way beyond classic status.
Like the others say, check out that album. One of the best ever. El P's production is like a city on fire. His solo albums paint a hell of a picture. Then you might take a detour and get into Camu Tao; a Def Jux light that's been extinguished
It's always very arbitrary and subjective to say things like this, but: for me, this is the best hip-hop album from 2000-onwards. I listened to it endlessly, and you always find something new - flow, lyrics, details n rhythm, harmony, those damn drons in backgrounds. A masterpiece.
They are part of another collective called Atoms Fam. Their wordplay is super unique and how they repeat certain lyrics back to back with a double meaning is ridiculous. you should check out Cryptic One, WindNBreeze, and Alaska. part of the same camp. ridiculous lyricists 🔥🔥🔥
Love this album Pigeon & Scream Phoenix my two favorite tracks besides this one Also : Pro Tip - if you type in "Topic" within your search... most of the time .. you'll get a high quality track Without the tags

I want to think can ox like vordul, vast and El-P. None of their solo albums are like cold vein.

“What you figure? That chalky outline on the ground is a father figure?” Goose bumps.
Vast Aire (the second rapper) was unreal on that album
This album is insanely creative and it was their only album for decades. It's definitely for advanced listeners.

yesss dude everyone should know this song its so dankkkk
React to Cannibal Ox "A B-Boy's Alpha." They go the fuck off on that cut.
The use of a "The Big Chill" sample is actively hostile against boomers.
