  • Magic Story Time teaser/intro video. It will accompany my first couple of episodes before I switch to a much shorter intro. This channel will feature interesting stories about playing Magic during its 30 year history, first my own and hopefully others'. And periodic "Danecdotes" about creating and playing Dandan. It will be heaped in Magic history and nostalgia. I'm happy to have created the Dandan variant as my fingerprint on Magic, but hope Magic Story Time will be my second fingerprint on the game I've loved. I'm new to this TH-cam thing, but hopefully I will get better over time. I hope to post my first real episode within the next week or two. Please subscribe to not miss an episode. Thanks to Sam‪@RhysticStudies‬ for the advice. I hope my channel can be as good as his someday.

Thank you for making this variant, such a cool way to play the game 🙌 I also started in 95, loved revised and started collecting sets ever since.

Please tell me you first discovered that Forgetful Fish had caught on by walking into an LGS and seeing two people having a blast playing it, years after you posting about it on the internet

I am so happy I've found you. So, I don't mean to be "that guy" but I've created my own variant of forgetful fish. I think I've captured some of the intricacies of the play patterns available in FF. As the creator and my inspiration, I hope you like what I've made.
I've stuck to the constrictions of the original, but I did switch things up. The deck is based around the creature Branded Brawlers a 2/2 Human Soldier for R that reads: It can't attack if defending player controls an untapped land. It can't block if you control an untapped land. Sticking to tradition this would be the only creature. Doesn't have 4 power, but similar restrictions for combat.
There is a catch though, no red mana producing lands. There are 19 islands and 10 mystic sanctuaries (islands that come into play tapped unless you control 3 other islands and puts an instant or sorcery on top of the library on ETB). How you make red mana to play the Branded Brawlers is primarily through treasure tokens. There's An Offer You Can't Refuse (U instant counter target noncreature they create two treasures), Ingenious Mastery (X2U sorcery you may pay 2U rather than pay it's mana cost. If 2U was paid, you draw 3 then an opponent creates 2 treasures and they scry 2. If that cost wasn't paid, you draw x cards.) and Bucknard's Everfull Purse (2 artifact 1T: roll a d4 and create that many treasures. The player to your right gains control of the purse.) As you can see to make red mana it must be given to you, or you make it yourself and give the opponent the opportunity to play their own Brawlers.
There are counter cantrips Disrupt and Remand. A singular copy of Oona's grace (2U instant target player draws a card. Retrace (play it from grave by discarding a land in addition)). And probably most importantly, ways to tap their lands/ keep them tapped with Early Frost (1U instant tap up to three lands), Mana Short (2U instant tap all lands target player controls and empty their mana pool), Drain Power (UU sorcery target players taps all their lands for mana. Then you gain that mana) and Mana Vapors (1U sorcery lands target player controls don't untap during their next untap). These cards force the usage of An Offer You Can't Refuse most of the time. It's a cycle of "if I get greedy or stop his thing will he be able to play either 1 or 2 Brawlers and if he does can I stop them"
I play commander a ton and thought of a way I could add something like a commander. What I came up with was a card both players had access to from the start of the game. That costs 2 more each time it's cast just like in commander. Game Plan (5U sorcery assist (another player can help pay for the colorless) each player shuffles their hand and grave into the library then draws 7.) I think it needed a way to shuffle/wheel. I prefer it being a separate card that both players could play and help pay for the ability.
    The full list:
    Branded Brawlers x15
    Bucknard's Everful Purse x5
An Offer You Can't Refuse x8
    Disrupt x3
    Early Harvest x2
    Remand x1
    Mana Short x5
    Oona's Grace x1
    Drain Power x1
    Mana Vapors x3
    Ingenious Mastery x6
    Game Plan x1
    Island x19
    Mystic Sanctuary x10
I am not expecting you to try this, but I kinda hope you respond. Being the creator of FF it would be sweet to get your "approval" or some thoughts at least. The games are longer that FF, but it's still all mind games and bluffing just like FF. Thanks for reading. :)

That’s fantastic. I love the creativity that everyone has with the idea of variant games around Magic. I hope I get the chance to try this some time, but I can’t build all these decks myself. Your enthusiasm definitely makes me want to try it. Thanks for discovering my fledgling channel and letting me know of your variant.

@@NicksMagicstorytime If I had the money, I'd buy you a copy so you could review and/or play it on this channel. That is if that's something you'd even want to do here. Either way I am grateful you took the time to read about my BB variant of FF. Good luck with the channel and from all FF lovers, thank you for coming up with such an amazing format.

@@justcausee Well, this channel is in its infancy and I don't have the ability to do play videos now, but that is something I would be interested in eventually. I'd like to start that by showcasing the other two Magic variants I dropped with Forgetful Fish (Rock, Paper, Scissors and Trippin') as well as a couple other's I'm working on, all of which are very different from the "shared library" variant of Dandan. Anyway, thanks for being here and contacting me. Stay tuned.

@@justcausee I'd be super happy if you had heard of my RPS variant, but bare in mind that there is a game concept in Magic called Rock, Paper, Scissors that postulates in a Magic Meta, deck A beats deck B, deck B beats deck C, and deck C beats deck A, creating a Rock, Paper Scissors type situation. That might be what you heard of. But here is my RPS variant Google Doc: docs.google.com/document/d/1z2AEeOtbwzM_dplDE-60iUjH0_pbZXd8_-smYEATovc/edit?usp=sharing
      And Trippin':

I dropped both of these at the same time I dropped Forgetful Fish in 2016. They just haven't taken off. Yet.
