  • A medley of Bhairavi-based female solos that were picturised on Hema Malini.
Four songs of contrasting emotions / situations, resulting in the composer using the flexibility of raag Bhairavi to craft four appropriate tunes.
This included a song from Sholay that is partially inspired by an Iranian song... which only goes on to show that the scale of Bhairavi spans all over Central Asia... and beyond.)
Another song is set to the rhythm of Bossa Nova, whose rhythmic pattern matched the inebriated state of the actress.
This is a small sample-size of this talented composer's usage of raag Bhairavi. Several beautiful ones like 'kajre badarwa', 'chingaari koi bhadke', 'yeh jo mohabbat hai', 'humein tumse pyaar kitna' and many more, enrich his body of work.
While Khamaj', arguably, remains R D Burman's favourite raag, his innovative use of Bhairavi is very interesting too.
Apologies for the amateurish video images.
Eighty fifth birth anniversary wishes to Rahul Dev Burman.
