The Octocontrabass and Octocontralto should be much larger and wider, as well as the Octacontrabass Sax, so it would better handle all this slower vibration.
Do you know if the design for either octo clarinet was patented, and if so, are these patents still current? If not, perhaps someone could make copies of these clarinets...
It's probably not the octocontrabass, but maybe the octocontra-alto. The lowest voice in the choir is sounds like it is playing uncomfortably low for a contrabass clarinet.
In my opinion, I think Bb contra is the lowest instrument used in this piece. The lowest note I distinctly heard was at the ending few notes on a really low Bb which is possible on a contrabass with a low C extension, which a good amount of pro contrabass players use, including Cyrille. It also has the distinct sound of a contra low C to me but it could have been played on Octocontralto or even Octocontrabass by just playing a left hand middle C.
Also just realized an ad for the concert playing the music at 3:22 in this vid. It shows a picture of a Bb contra to low c and says "Hommage à Léon Leblanc" so I think it is safe to assume that it was Bb contra used in the song to hold up the low end and not the octocontrabass or octocontralto.
I can hear the octocontrabass clarinet, but it's kind of hard to hear. Can you please make a video of just playing the octocontrabass clarinet by itself?
+Foxy the Pirate Fox The guide at the museum told me this summer Mr. Mercadier restored it a few years ago (presumably 2011) and since the video shows both him playing the instrument and a newly made reed, I assume he made it play.
That octocontabass is...just beautiful.
It is at the museum of "La Couture - Boussey", everybody can see it!

@MrTmann14 yes, exacltly the same size, even if the bore of the octocontrabass is bigger than the octocontralto
Turning the speed up to 1.25 or 1.5 is fun on this one...
Seriously though, that octocontrabass is massive!
Do you know if the design for either octo clarinet was patented, and if so, are these patents still current? If not, perhaps someone could make copies of these clarinets...
Le Blanc needs to bring back the octocontrabass clarinet!
The most beautiful instrument!
is the mouthpiece on that the same size as the octocontralto
The small clarinet cannot play, it was made by Lablanc company in 1946
it is the octocontralto, in fact the octocontrabass doesn't play so much, many pads should be changed...
Any repairman could easily replace the pads, so why not do it?
When you first played this instrument, it has a distorted sound.
this guy's Bb clarinet chops must be legendary...
I am currently finishing a book on woodwind instruments and am wondering if you might have a photo of the Octos that I could use in the text?
The octocontralto goes down to Eb1, that is 17 Hz....
octocontralto - Eb0
octocontrabass - Bb-1
Contrabass clarinet vs. octocontralto and octocontrabass clarinets (1:27, 1:33, 1:40, 1:44, 1:48)

Last I checked that horn still isn't in working order, so I doubt you heard it. =P
How on earth did you get a hold of that octocontrabass? There is only one of those in the world!
i bet it would sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars on places like Ebay
From what I hear it's in a French museum. Maybe he had permission.
I'm curious, was it intended to be playable, or just as an ornament?
And what's keeping the octocontabass from being playable?
I think it's broken
@Yummy Spaghetti Noodles unrepairable since the germans invaded france in the 1940s
It's currently unplayable, but I think it was playable when it was made.
@@BrightnessAndShadow yes it was the germans who made it unplayable
Why is there a newer vkaranet in the photos and how did you get to touch those
Did he play at 0:45?
Octocontralto vs. octocontrabass bell at 1:52
Is there a Octocontralto playong in this piece? I play Bb contrabass clarinet and some of these notes sound too low to be played by a Bb contra.

I wonder where the only octocontrabass clarinet is????
Tyler Hicks a museum in France I think
Look closely at 0:55
Where did I even find that small clarinet? Or did u make it?
HOLY JESUS THAT THING IS HUGE
:0
Is that the Octocontrabass I hear in this piece, or is it the octocontralto playing those really deep notes?
I dont think the octocontras are playable so it might be octocontralto or contrabass
Does this instrument go down to Bb-1?
Yes.
I can hear the octocontrabass clarinet, but it's kind of hard to hear. Can you please make a video of just playing the octocontrabass clarinet by itself?
I think this instrument may be capable of generating the infamous "brown note". :-)
what is a "brown note"?
A note that sounds like a shart 🙄
That's concert Db0, 17Hz, actually, you mean? I can get Eb1 on a contrabass.
has it been repaired to a playable state.?

A simulation of what the octocontrabass clarinet would have sounded like: th-cam.com/video/OL7AJGZmZyM/w-d-xo.html
Did you restore a subcontrabass or subcontralto?
