Your respects ad understandings for the surrounding environment and the creatures that live in them are very admirable.Harmony with nature Hansler,it's a beautiful thing.
I make similar traps both larger and smaller than the one you made. I make mine out of willow as after few hrs in water it will sink on own. I make my traps like a mat laid flat on ground with the shafts tied 1 inch apart. When wide enough I roll them around two funnels, if for lake, pond or still water both funnels inward, if for a river then the one upstream is closed cone and points out of trap. I attach rope to that point of cone and secure it to an underwater log and on back of trap have long cord with light weigy to snag and lift the trap out of water. for my really big traps (comercial license) I add few hoops in middle of trap to make more sturdy. biggest I have made was 4ft diam 12 ft long I usually use tie wire that is used for rebar, though have used hand made cordage too but that was just for fun
Great video as usual Bob. I've made a few of these by splitting both bamboo and rivercane but this trap in particular I don't believe I've seen. Well done brother. Tommy
Great great videos and LOVE your dog! Incidentally Bob...I dive alot with sharks in the water and I could NEVER do what you're doing out there in the swamps...just super!!
A time investment in the beginning but will be worthwhile for the long run ! I've made more than a few with wire, because it was available but found that natural materials seemed to work a little better. Wasn't seeing any new videos from you and was hoping all was alright, glad to see you back to giving us good information ! Thanks for sharing and take care !
That is really cool I really enjoy watching you out there putting so much effort into a single trap that is time consuming, obviously very hot outside, and patience wearing thin with the bugs bothering you I would assume, but really awesome nonetheless really good job there Bob and very nicely well done and made!
Like many have said. Glad youre back. Hopefully you were just taking a break from videos and it wasnt anything more serious. If I can make a suggestion. Just keep us in the loop. Theres 50 thousand plus (50k+, 50000+, fifty-thousand+) of us who like youre channel, dont leave us in a lurch for so long. Not saying you need to tell us anything personal. Just say "Hey guys Im taking a break/going on vacation/etc. Ive seen plenty of TH-cam channels get abandoned and was worried this was another example.
It’s the same matted, it just a bit different from my native, we used ROTAN instead of bamboo to make it a bit more lighter, and an opener from the back of the traps to release the caches. We call it in our language buvok(BOOVO’)in our native. Very good video, tumbs up.
I was beginning to think we lost you due to one of your survival adventures lol! Glad to see you are back and thanks again for another useful survival video. I definitely want to be able to try this out one day but living in NJ there aren't many rural areas to experiment with :D. Keep it up Bob!
Highly invasive. Latest biomass studies in rivers that are close to us have them at over 6%. They are out competing native fish populations and I can see i firsthand as we are catching more and more each day.
What's up Bob? Long time no see...been a while but worth the wait. Excellent fish trap...looks as though it could b used for a long time & would really serve it's purpose for a while. What r U baiting it with? Would the trap still work n the creek on Ur land? Awesome video & glad to see U back. Keep up the great work...looking forward to see new videos. Can U show some hide tanning & how to use just the animals own brains to do it with. Maybe how to utilize & harvest the sinew to sew up the hides with.
Bob. Just a comment on this type of trap. When you build it, would it not be faster, less work, if you laid the cane shoots out in a flat layer, tied them together like a rug, then wrap them around the skeleton? Just a thought as I watched how you tied them on the rings individually.
@@BobHanslerI Personally would have split the cane so that it was easier to tie, and slightly lighter, and required a bit less cane. But as you said, it would have been easier to weave, and with a good knife, Like you have, splitting the cane into weaveable withs, soaking and weaving them would have been longer to prep, but actually easier to create. But that's a personal choice, with the skills that I have though. Not a choice for everyone.
Darn, finally found a video I haven't seen, but the picture was relegated to one small corner of my screen and was upside down. All of the other videos play just well. Darn it!
I think I have yet to see a video where you don't run around in the water. I have no idea if it has any interest, but I'd love to see you attempt some survival methods in the oceans (read coastal areas).
Are those placostamus fish you caught, good for eating? I thought I had heard they were but I'm just not sure. Thanks for the info and the videos. God bless bro.
I couldn't catch what you called the fish that couldn't go back in the water? They didn't look like the Asian Carp I've seen, or Walking Catfish. What we're they. Silly asking here, I'll never be answered. LOL It was a terrific video.
Seems you could have eliminated the labor intensive step of making the cordage and just tie off the ends and the mid sections with individual yucca strands. Just sayin'
I've got to wonder why anyone would dislike this great and informative video
nice to see you
nice to see you .keep filming
Jim Bothy I agree with that
haters
The TROLLS that give thumbs down here will be the 1st to go if & when the 💩 hits the fan.
Really cool! Archeologists recently found medieval fish weirs in Europe that look just like the one you made! Awesome videos!!
I always love how you take the time to show the work involved in making a trap. Another Great Video....I'm a Fan
You are so smart..I really hope you get another opportunity with the TV show that your eye condition sidelined.
I love how the dog followed you into the water how cute
Your respects ad understandings for the surrounding environment and the creatures that live in them are very admirable.Harmony with nature Hansler,it's a beautiful thing.
Good to see you back Hansler.
Glad to be back.
Huck reminds me of my dog follows me everywhere always on my side many a time I’ve tripped over him lol 👍👌🇬🇧
Nice Fish Trap build Bob, glad y’all made th video & shared it w/us !

I cannot believe a channel such as this existed... Very informative and friendly and I'm subbing!

You have to admit though. It is pretty out there.
No doubt...beautiful...!

Huck is a loyal old boy, I love him
That channel cat is good eating size. Huck reminds me of my Bull Dog Molly as she goes ever where I go.
It’s either this guy is underrated or most popular channels are overrated
Thanks for sharing Bob Very interesting trap, I’m sure it will be very useful for trapping fish or other, All is good to know 👍👌🇬🇧
Never misses watching your awesome videos brother. Keep up the good work.. God bless you and your family ❤️❤️

Lots to learn and you're a good teacher. Always look forward to seeing your videos.

That was a large red ear slider! Had one as a kid and it was the meanest nastiest animal I've ever seen haha
glad you're back sir
Good to be back. More videos to come now that the weather is cooling down.
I love your videos and the respect you have for nature
Excellent build!
I had no idea the plecos we're a problem here in Texas. Interesting. 😃I always enjoy your great videos. You're so nifty😉.🌲
You should write a prepper book with diagrams and photos. I'd buy it
Excellent video, Bob! Entertaining and educational.
great vids buddy. love how your dog follows you into the creek..lol
Nice man you need more subs u got some cool vids
beauty of a trap ! awesome great job
Congrats on almost 60k subs your channel is the best!
I would suggest the use of a simple shuttle or fish net needle to handle the cordage. It might save half a day of construction time.
great vid mate, i personally would also like to shorten the entrance depth and widen it a little, good trap!
Wowwww.... you did it very well and fast
very nice trap. That looked like a lot of work.
Excellent work!
Nicely done man! great video.
Long time no see , glad you're back ! ;)
Cool 😎 gonna give this a try!
I'm glad 2 see u bac friend how hav y'all been
It's been while my friend! You are so close to 60k subs!
Another stepping stone. Time to push towards 100k,
Enjoyed this video very much. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Wow that is quite a laborous tap. Fun to watch tho and glad you shared i enjoyed it as i do most your vids. peace.
Makes you appreciate knowing the time that goes into them.
super cool man, love your vids!
The man is back at it
Could put a door on top so you can see what your grabbing, right?
Great video, very educational. Is there anyway you can inform us more about those catfish and why they are an issue in taxes?
Highly invasive. Latest biomass studies in rivers that are close to us have them at over 6%. They are out competing native fish populations and I can see i firsthand as we are catching more and more each day.
Thank you.
Nice build mate

Great information -- labor intensive but it works !!
Why would anyone dislike this lol it's so awesome
Half blind makes you a hero
Hey Bob, who does the filming for you?
My beautiful wife.
Ah. Well keep up the good work, you guys are doing a hell of a job!
that's a good dog, its just standing in the water waiting
Bob. Just a comment on this type of trap. When you build it, would it not be faster, less work, if you laid the cane shoots out in a flat layer, tied them together like a rug, then wrap them around the skeleton? Just a thought as I watched how you tied them on the rings individually.
Tie in place with this one. Any wiggle room will cause it to move and shift until it collapses. Slick cane.
@@BobHanslerI Personally would have split the cane so that it was easier to tie, and slightly lighter, and required a bit less cane. Interesting variation on the woven basket trap. What do you do with that invasive species when you catch them? Food? Fertilizer? Bait? Pet food?
That’s a cool fish trap
Bob would it be easier to lash the poles together like a bamboo mat first, and then roll them around the circular frame?
I like that version the best. Maybe a bit longer and bigger around if a guy was coastal fishing. One enterence though.
glad your back. your so cute
Stephanie Ellis I don't think he dates middle schoolers
I'm far from being a middle schooler. you don't have to be rude.
This kind of trap are called " Through ", in Cambodia. It's been used for thousands of years.
You also can't release carp its illegal in Texas
great build vid. Do you have a video for deadfall and other small creature traps?
Not just yet expect to see them this coming fall and winter.
Darn, finally found a video I haven't seen, but the picture was relegated to one small corner of my screen and was upside down. All of the other videos play just well. Darn it!
Awesome!
He's back ;D
Btw check your description XD
Te Trap
I liked it for the 1000th time
oh yeah! great work, bob! i was wondering what youve been up to?! what was that invasive rish again? ive never seen one on my neck of the woods.
Junkyard Fox It's a pleco, it's used in fish tanks to clean the glass
good job I'm not up on fishing as much as I'd like 2 be but you did u say u couldn't put that 1 fish back & had 2 terminate it?
Great video. Thanks
What kind of tie are you putting on the inlet?
Ur Damnnn smart , great video keep up the good work well done
I love dogs like your
is there a risk of alligators out there in the swamp?
There are always risks. I imagine walking down a city street could be more dangerous.
I think I have yet to see a video where you don't run around in the water. I have no idea if it has any interest, but I'd love to see you attempt some survival methods in the oceans (read coastal areas).
Fingers crossed. In a year or so take the channel out into the ocean for a time.
Are those placostamus fish you caught, good for eating? I thought I had heard they were but I'm just not sure.
Thanks for the info and the videos.
God bless bro.
"I hope there are no crocs come on in the water to the dog "😂👊
Bob did you catch any fish in the cane trap? In the marsh??
awesome vid! :D
You should go on the show alone I feel like you could win lol
I couldn't catch what you called the fish that couldn't go back in the water? They didn't look like the Asian Carp I've seen, or Walking Catfish. What we're they. Silly asking here, I'll never be answered. LOL
It was a terrific video.
Pleco
What a monster of a trap by the way all the fish you can't return to the wild you should like make a fish tanks of them
Love your videos :D
great videos! just subscribed
Glad to have you.
great video sir
you know your Stuff
atb
Steve
nice tarp
Is that a pleco
I'm like number 666 lol. cool. as always I love your vids and miss awesome Texans like you. hope you are well
Plecos are delicious.
Did you mention how many hours or days this took to make?
Collecting materials, making rope and putting it all together, figure 8-10 hours for a first try.
what do you use for bait?
Twin Pet brand dog food from Walmart. Large bag for $5.
it looked like your entrance hole is fairly small how does a turtle like that get in?
you mentioned crocs... not many where I live but how do you protect
your self?
Seems you could have eliminated the labor intensive step of making the cordage and just tie off the ends and the mid sections with individual yucca strands. Just sayin'
you’d be wrong. get out there and try it.
@@BobHansler been there, done that.
