Exactly, if you plan to take in an animal you have to be able to put all the effort in to raise and care for the creature as though they are your own children that are forever in the toddler stage of life. If you can't take that on then a pet isn't for them. It's sad how all the animals are treated theses days as well, I've seen so many cases, but there are those few good souls that will reach out to take them in and it makes the world a little less dark when you can find a good soul that can do that and actually has the skill to take care of one that someone else couldn't. Even taking the time to do research on your pet can help you by leaps and bounds.
For my own fur babies and fish I have spent the time to research on dangerous items that could harm their life so that I can be aware of what not to bring into the home. To find the things that are safe, ways to make them happy, ways to make them comfortable when they aren't feeling so well... by the way fish are a real pain when it comes to that, but hey everything is a learning experience and if you aren't willing to always be learning then it's best to stick to digital animals, lol.

Yeah but she also was saying that these animals shouldn't be house pets and if they need a lot of attention they'd get it from people honestly she doesn't have time to bond and get really close with all them animals like people in general should be able to have pets like that get to know how they feel and what they go through and stuff I also think this would help more people and stuff to because some people go through a lot of shit and don't have no one neither do these animals it could bring people closer to these animals and we could start helping them more than hurting them if you get what I'm saying

"Most people don't even know how to take care of a hamster." I really felt that, hamsters need so much and the pet stores are not informed enough to give out the right info. 99% of hamster cages are to small, the minority of hamster food is not a correct diet, some wood bedding can kill hamsters, some hamster treats can make hamsters exstreamly ill.
I'm glad there are good hamster owners on TH-cam that spread good information for the public but there are so many that just neglect their small pets because they don't take any time to research.

    • @gracielaestevez75

Honestly when she said that I wish everyone who wants a hamster hears it, cause so many just get them because they think it's an "easy, beginner pet" so they dont properly care for it and then later wonder why it's showing signs or stress or aggression and then die early. Personally, anytime I think, "I'd like to have this creature as a pet" I do a BUNCH of research and think carefully, am I in a good situation in my personal and work life where I can add another living breathing creature into it and care for it. For example, last year at the beginning of summer, I wanted a guinea pig and thought it would be a nice friend to have, so i did research and learned that they grow a lot bigger than what you see in stores and on the media and they need a lot of space. Actually, hamsters need a lot of space too, i learned so much and decided, I won't get a guinea pig and that's okay. But a lot of people do the opposite, they go to the pet store, see cute lil animals and just buy them on the spot not knowing enough or any info, its awful

YES!!! Thank you!!! I have had a few hamsters and they require as much care as a dog or cat would. I have had three hamsters and they all lived past their life expectancy. I now have two guinea pigs and they are a step up but I had done two moths of research before getting them, and I STILL do research on them. They are hard work even if they are small. I couldn’t imagine the work that exotic pets take! That’s some serious commitment.

      @Shmem_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Love this comment!
I’m a ham-mom and they need so much attention, it’s like having a pet rat or a ferret, they’re not the type of animal where you can get it and then put it off to the side for a year- They need to be touched, loved; given attention in order to grow a bond with you.
People will talk about how “my hamster bites me”, and that’s probably because you don’t spend a lot of time with it. Also, people don’t understand that yeah, hamsters *can* live off of the generic grain food at a pet store but they *shouldn’t* .
Hamsters enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables, just look online to see which ones are safe and which ones are not. They can also eat unseasoned, cooked chicken, as well as an unseasoned hard boiled egg. One of my hamsters truly loved walnuts. You just have to see which foods your little one will like, and try a lot of options, but just overload on too many natural sugars.
Also if you choose to line the hamster cage (hoping it’s one that actually big enough for the creature) with a sort of fabric, I.e legging material, Jean material, fleece even, be careful, the hamsters can pull the strings out of it and could choke, mess up they’re digestive system, cause tooth/gum decay.
Just do your research before buying ANY animal. Fish, hamster, ANYTHING.

This was shock to me when I impulse bought a goldfish. (more like won at a fair since I was hyped up, never actually encountered real life 'win a goldfish', etc) Thought it was fine to keep them in the tiny bowl you could buy with them there. Thought goldfish were easy pets. Got that wakeup call when I got online to research at home. Didn't have the funds for a large 20 gallon glass aquarium, so opted for a clear food safe container of the right size. Had to get a filter and better quality food too. Then there's the fact you have to water change each week. Considering I was so unprepared, I had to cycle the tank with him in it which stressed him out. It was the only time I made an impulse buy on literally anything and never have again. Goldfish are not easy pets. Snakes are easy pets. Pricey on the electrics, but easy care wise. (I have a 17 year old cornsnake, got as a hatchling)
He's 4 years old now and doing good. I considered getting him a friend a while back, but apparently they are fine as solitary creatures. I'd have to get a bigger tank and cycle that anyway.

Cats need indoors enrichment and should never be left to their own devices outdoors, and they need lots of things indoors to keep them mentally stimulated. It’s very sad that cats are rescued, adopted, or bought, just to be kept in a house that does not suit their needs, or just to be kept outdoors.

It's also important to note that not all those species going extinct are animals. Plants are going extinct at an ALARMING rate.... And without plants animals can't survive. So make sure you're also supporting conservation efforts for plants, as they are ridiculously underfunded. Which is probably why plants are going extinct faster than animals.
Also this includes seed banks and the research around them! Because even just preserving the seeds is helpful, but also we don't know how long seeds of various plants can be stored and have them still germinate. So seed banks need funding both for the upkeep of the storage and to add inventory, but also for them to study the seeds they are storing, and methods of preservation.

Deadpanann ! It isn't always "hell" taking care of exotics. I had a potbellied pig, wolf hybrid, blue and gold Macaw, skunk and 2 possums. All rescues. It wasn't "pure hell" taking care of any of them and saying that would also be a lie. What isn't a lie, is the fact that an exotic isn't for everyone. In fact, I believe few people can handle exotics. They can and many times do have a different temperament than domestic animals, and can be a handful at times. It took a lot of patience to get my wolf to live with my cats, but it happened. And we always had to be 3 steps ahead of the pig in thought. The macaw was never kept in a cage (she knew how to take them apart anyway), but we also had to make sure anything dangerous to her curiosity was put away.
Having exotics definitely isn't anywhere near hell, but if you don't do your homework and don't have the patience, you're pretty much doomed to fail.

I would love to have a monkey, not as a pet, but as a companion animal. There IS a difference. Yes, Monkeys require a LOT of specialized care....constant supervision, constant attention. And monkeys live in hierarchies; you have to maintain discipline. That action that is SO cute when they are tiny babies, isn't so cute when they are a 20# toddler. They WILL take advantage of any break in your rules.....and try to climb up the hierarchy ladder above you.

No kidding, most people can't even take care of a fish. They think you can just drop it in water and feed it pellets. It's sad that pet ownership is legal with zero training or certification :/ Especially with dogs and cats, who not only can be dangerous to the environment and to the safety of other living creatures, but often abused because of impulse buying which leads to a terribly unregulated market and ownership...

An they are my life from the time I wake up to the time I sleep. You give up so much to care for animals. I truly understand how big her and her teams hearts are. Please keep videos like this coming! If you want to raise money why turn around and waste thousands of dollars on place tickets, hmmm? Not the best way to save the planet either, considering the carbon footprint of air travel . . . maybe have another look from a different angle and do some REAL good?
