This is a total classic. I agree with you, this game should be on everybody's top 10 list for 2600. My dad was obsessed with this one, he would play for hours. Thanks for this cool look at a wonderful game!
Always love seeing gameplay from this iconic game. When I wanted a bigger challenge I would collect every item in the gold castle, including dragon carcasses. The flickering would be so bad with all that stuff in one room.
This one hits a nostalgia spot for me, I never had it, but my parents rented it multiple times, I still twitch in angst when see a dragon, the bridge was a miracle by the programming standpoint

The day I beat level 2 was one of my proudest video game achievements! I’m 42 and I just beat it a few years ago even though I grew up with the game…maybe one day I’ll beat level 3!
I'm pretty sure I beat it, but the oddest thing about this game was I found a little dot that seemed to have no purpose. 45 years later I found out if i had carried it into a certain room, i would've found the first Easter egg in video game history.

Yes, for its time it was a breakthrough game, and is amazing in that context, but... unlike games of the NES era and later, games of this era don't quite hold up beyond the nostalgic factor. I'm not saying its bad, but just, that while the statement "one of the most fun games of all time" could have been true in a pre-1985 world... it quickly became less true with each passing year beyond that. Yet, all adventure games are in debt to this one, for sure.
You should make this game a little more challenging by having the dragons fear the sword. It's too easy when they're coming Right at you with the sword

As far as top 10 games go, Adventure does NOT belong there. But Berserk sure does. Gameplay wise, Adventure just wasn't very good. That said, I probably put 100+ hours in that game. Maybe much much more.
One of the first games where I can remember just letting my imagination run totally wild. Adventure will always be in my 'go-to' list for 2600 titles!

Moving the dragons is tough! The bat never wants to co-operate.

Game 3 is great once you beat Game 2.
