New Edition & Bobby Brown - Heartbreak Tour Live In Philadelphia 1988 Part 1 (EXTREMELY RARE!!!)

  • At long last! Bobby Brown’s sizzling pre-show set for the New Edition “Heartbreak Tour” LIVE from the second show at The Spectrum Philadelphia, PA November 2, 1988! The crowning highlight of this set is a sensual reworking of his 1986 Number One debut single “Girlfriend” (my favorite track from his set). On this track, Brown gives a performance for the ages and delivers what was in my estimation the best version of “Girlfriend” EVER! The song starts off with a brand new slow jam arrangement, then half way through Bobby cues the band to take it back to the original arrangement and delivers vocal FIREWORKS from that point on! Breathtaking! Highlights also include an overtly sexual rendition of his Top 100 hit “Roni” where he invites a lucky young lady to join him on stage (further explaining why he was almost charged with indecency on some nights of his subsequent solo tour). And finally, a very energetic and lengthy take on his most autobiographical tune, “My Prerogative.” This extremely rare footage captures the self-proclaimed “King of Stage” at his lyrical, vocal and sexual peak at the tender age of 19, if you can believe that! Long before his erratic and often self-destructive personal life and ill-fated relationships began dominating the conversation of Booby Brown. This is a rare time capsule of an era when Bobby Brown’s artistry defined him, and not his latest arrest or tabloid editorial.

    Thanks for watching and head on over to Part 2 to see New Edition deliver a stellar performance full of wall to wall hits!
    I’d lastly like to give thanks to my friend Waverly Levere, without whom none of this would have been possible!

      It wasn't unique. Honestly, we were doing all of those dances. Any "hood" in america were doing all of those dances well before Bobby became a star.
      To white people, it waa unique.to bruthas and sistas, it was like, "damn, finally the ish we do at the school dances, block parties, and skating.rinks". Scoob and scrap, the dances for Big Daddy Kane, were doing the same damn thing as Heart and Soul. Bobby just got the play.
      Think of it like this. Michael Jackson did the "moonwalk" in 1983 or whatever. White people went crazy like it was something HE made up. In the hood, it was called the glide. Althought i was around 8-9 in thr late 70's, I remember my uncle and his friends, who were lockers, doing the glide in late 78. It was nothing new at all. But, if white people don't know about it, then it's new, fresh, snd unique.
      Same thing with Miley Cyrus twerking. Really? Sista's were twerking in the south back in the mid 90's.

    • @CodyCole80
      @CodyCole80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Tye K.
      I think Sharon meant that Bobby brought the edge of the hood to the forefront. Those dances weren’t unique for common black folks, but they were to suburban America and anywhere else outside of urban 🇺🇸. Bobby was the first thug-singing superstar- pre Jodeci.

    Wow a rare concert of Bobby Brown before he became extremely huge then later came the downfalls. Glad everyone is appreciating his legacy as a high energetic performer. B.Brown was a fool with it on that stage. Wish i was older enough at that time to see him at his prime. Did get to see him a few times (even with N.E. on a couple reunion tours) in recent years but as the older version of Bobby after overcoming and probably still dealing with demons. Peace and blessings to you PR500 for giving us a treat to start 2020 off with.

    Bobby Brown, when right as he was here, was THE THREAT to Michael Jackson. Now just imagine if he would have avoided the trappings that fame offered and focused on his craft. He could do it all and he had that raw Pendergrass-like sex appeal. Girls either wanted to screw him or get screwed by him. A prime Chris Brown and Usher could not touch him.

      William Cooper is right ya'll...Bobby was spearheading where the game was going. Why do you think "dangerous" was a New Jack album? Even Mike had to change up his sound to compete with Bobby. If you're not old enough to remember the time ( no pun intended) keep quiet.

    • @michellemills1260
      @michellemills1260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mr.majesty1920 No he is wrong, at this time Bobby Brown was an opening act for a group he got kicked out of..Michael Jackson was head lining his own tour making over 100,000,000 by himself. To compete with Mr Jackson,you had to know to sing as well,as dance and we all know Bobby is not a singer. Teddy Riley was supposed to work on the Bad album in 1987 but Gene Griffin interfered. So there was no reason for Michael to rush or compete with anybody. Michael sold 32 million with Dangerous, Bobby didn't even come close with Don't be Cruel, these are facts and I am old enough to have this conversation,I was living when it all went down..

      Other than New Kids On The Block I don’t know of any other entertainer’s careers taking off all at once like that. They started as the opening act for Tiffany in 1989 and by late ‘89 early 1990 they were the headliners and SHE was the opening act. In this 1988 era, no one had that level of success but Prince and Michael Jackson until Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” swooped in, in 1989. At this point Michael was on the second leg of his “BAD Tour” and Prince would have been promoting his 10th studio album entitled “Lovesexy” which I think was his best album although it didn’t perform well commercially. The public didn’t get the concept of what he was onto, it was way over their heads. But the “Lovesexy Tour” was massively acclaimed and successful. It’s also what I consider to be the greatest tour of ALL time, honestly I just haven’t seen anything that comes close. But Bobby was on fire in this era and he outsold everyone except Mr. Jackson.

    Bobbbbbyyyyy❤ I liked Bobby back then but I love him now. He was cool back then but growth is important to anyone so I am glad he has evolved into the resilient loving man he is today esp after enduring so much. Also happy my fellas NE have all grown and back together. # NE for life!!

BUT WITH AGGRESSION!! PASSION. NO APOLOGIES. Chris Brown Usher Jodeci Jagged Edge 112 all of them.. GONE WAS THE DAYS OF PRECISION AND MATCHING SUITS.. IN CAME TIMBERLAND BOOTS 👢. DENIM. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Nailed it! Yes! Bobby pioneered a MOVEMENT in R&B. From R. Kelly and Usher to Chris Brown and Trey Songz; they ALL must pay homage to the ORIGINAL Bad Boy!

      @@PurpleRain500 I know he loves his Whitney. So do I. But I always believed that she was the fatal mistake to his music career. That old Sony dude. Was pissed Bobby was with Whitney and black balled Bobby's career. Made sure he would not make another album. Took his music and his ability to make money. Making it seem like Bobby was leaching off her. Bobby sacrificed alot to be with her. He even let the world blame him for her drug addiction. Even her evil azz mother blamed him knowing Whitney was akready on that mess.. When her mother kicked Bobby out of Whitney's funeral. Knowing how much they loved Each OTHER. I was convinced that woman was the devil incarnate. I hope the music world finally tip their hats to Bobby. He did alot for the music industry. He made love songs cool again.

      Queen Empress I love Whitney as well. Honestly neither one of them needed to be in that relationship. There was so much wrong with it on both sides. I love Whitney to DEATH and always will, but that was a toxic relationship that I wish both of them would have steered clear of. The media really spun it and put the blame on Bobby, and for years I hated him and attributed her problems and death to him, but now I know that it wasn’t entirely his fault. No one is to blame for what happened to Whitney BUT Whitney. As much as it pains me to say that. It hurt them BOTH, and cost their daughter her life. SMH. 😔
