I still don’t think the Volca Drum is my thing but this is definitely the most compelling video I’ve seen of it. I love seeing people have fun and doing cool things with gear that doesn’t work for me. Always nice to see other perspectives
I took drum lessons for over 10 years before getting into synthesisers. The best part about the volca drum for me is the tactile manipulation of drums/percussion timbre. It's so fun. From my experience, using a DAW with samples makes this task cumbersome because of the point and click mouse usage. Sometimes I'll lay in bed, building a new kit. After months of playing around with 1 bar patterns, I'm probably going to start backing up kits on the computer and chaining programs together for longer patterns. If you want to use this with a DAW it's perfect, just send MIDI out and change the sounds with your fingers. Ideal middle ground. Layer samples on top for further complexity. Another thing I do is set up pentatonic tones, have a few of them choke each other, and create a hierarchy of probability of playing. You get to control the level of randomness and just let it run!
Well you did it. You made me buy one :D I'm growing into it as I learn each feature and I absolutely *love* the size, light weight and portability of this thing. Just the Volca drum, a Zoom H2 and a pair of headphones and you can just go outside and jam for a bit. Good stuff.
Pair your Volca drum with a Volca FM and you can make some awesome tunes! I use this combo to make Retro inspired video game music and it’s so much fun!
I LOVE the Tonic, but the Volca Drum is on a whole different level. Even with the Microtonic software added in, the flexibility of the sequencer on the VD is miles ahead.
Own a snare modded Volca Beats which I sync with a PO 12 just to layer the bass drum. I'd love one of these but wonder if a Volca Kick might be more useful for my purpose. Or downloading the Microtonic vst (AUS $99 I think) and a free DAW and synching the PO Tonic instead. Actually my guy could mod the Beats or Drum to get individual kick out so I could put that through a cheap distortion pedal - more warranty voiding. Ha. So much GAS, not enough cash. Thanx for the demo Free Beat. That is some impressive hardware. Never miss your daily posts. Always informative for me making electronic music on a budget.
Oh yeah it's awesome! I love that you can do it per part, per pattern! Really opens it up to basically endless possibilities haha. Thanks for watching :)
The beats is a true analog drum machine, although in my opinion it doesn't sound that great. The drum is a digital machine that has a very particular metallic character to it.
@@FreeBeat went with the Behringer RD6 Drum Machine its limited like original but true analog with the clap from the boss sounds great in vids well see how it is price was only 125 so not to costly and the distortion feat looks interesting
This is my favorite volca. I use it to make drum sounds, then plug that into my Digitakt to morph the sound even more. Fantastic gear for crafting your own drum sounds.
The Volca Drum is a filthy mistress. I need to play it some more. Now I have the Cycles I feel like these would be great used together with their metallic sounds.

Yeah it's definitely not for everyone, but it can be a very fun and useful tool!

Oh that sounds like a great idea! Thanks for watching :)
I have a Korg monologue and I think this would sound great with it for making some great tracks .
Thanks for watching!
Best volca ever, and a true modern keeper.
Yeah this thing is epic!
3:30 Completely on accident that's kinda a vibe. I'll be picking mine up today, super excited. I have a couple POs but I've never had a volca before.
I hope you love it, it's an absolute blast! Feel free to reach out if you have questions :)
@@FreeBeat Ive been playing with it for the last couple hours. You're right, this thing is just FUN

Have fun, I hope you love it!
Nice! I bet this thing could make good industrial sounds/percussion.
Oh yeah it definitely can!
Man that was an eye-opener, have had both Models for ages but never knew about that function, thanks a million👍👎👍

I will definitely do that if I ever get a Volca FM!
Yoo, I’d be interested in hearing some of that if you’re open to sharing
Coming from a drummer, this is high praise for a drum machine! How do you think it compares to making rhythms with the POs, especially the Tonic?
I LOVE the Tonic, but the Volca Drum is on a whole different level. Even with the Microtonic software added in, the flexibility of the sequencer on the VD is miles ahead.
Love to see you do a vid with this with the Microfreak. I hear they go well together.
I'll definitely pair them together in the future, thanks for watching!
I always heard this thing was ok but that’s high praise from you I get that feeling from my electron model cycles with synth
They are both outstanding and affordable devices! Thanks for watching :)
That step jump feature is my favorite thing about it!
I haven't even really tried it yet!
@@FreeBeat , super cool for live jamming!
And locking it on. First time I did that I thought I'd broken it.
@@FreeBeat It's the biggest selling point of this machine!
Total "gamechanger" for lack of a better term.
@@AllaMortify Wait....
You can lock it on!!?
Explain
At about 4 minutes in, I think you just invented Dove-step. I need to get one of these immediately.
Thanks for watching!
Sounds super cool brother, right on !!!
Thanks man!
I love the Volca Drum, so much fun in a mini box
Yeah I can't believe how many features it has!
You had me at randomize. Sold.
I sold mine. It was fun for a few months.
I'm hoping it doesn't wear off for me, so far so good haha. Thanks for watching!

I'd go for the Volca Kick! It seems to be really underutilized and I'd love to hear more people using it. Thanks for watching!
I found one with a power supply, and a cable. I'm hoping this will be fun, for me. I'm also hoping it will be easy to use, for me. Thanks!
Awesome, I hope you have a blast!
He said if just for a stress reliever Lol
Hi! Is this volca mono or estéreo? Or does it have any effects that make it stereo?
It's stereo :)
Hi! Can you make backups of your kits?
Sadly, I don't believe you can :(
That's a con :(
"Your car door is open" at 6mins
Hahahaha totally!
Waiting for mine now...
I hope you love it!
The random button is funny.
I agree hahaha, I love it!
The Volca Drum is definitely an odd bird that can make some whacked out sounds. I didn’t realize that you can randomize the generation of new sounds.
Oh yeah it's awesome! I love that you can do it per part, per pattern! Really opens it up to basically endless possibilities haha. Thanks for watching :)
It's a great happy accident machine.
I absolutely love that. You can just sit and mindlessly twiddle knobs and still get awesome results!
KVD Rules🔥
Indeed!
how does this compare to the volca beats

Awesome! I plan on sampling it into my MPC and making kits for all of my gear. Thanks for watching :)
Wow. This thing is not what I thought it was! Have the Volca Sample and Modular. Skipped The Drum. Went with Uno Drum.
It's pretty awesome, definitely exceeded my expectations!
The Volca Drum is a filthy mistress. I need to play it some more. Now I have the Cycles I feel like these would be great used together with their metallic sounds.
Oh yeah you could get super grimy with the two of them together!
That’s no drum machine more noise machine
Definitely a drum machine lol
