One of ichigo's hobbies is reading Shakespeare. He is a traumatized child trying to do his best. He doesnt shout a gaol from on high, he just holds on to what he has and refuses to let go. The show is about him trying to move past his trauma of not being able to save his mom. Once he does that he is able to finish his growth both physically and mentally. I really like Ichigo as a protaganist because you have to sit and watch and listen for what he really wants instead of it being spoon fed to you like in other shonen anime's. Loves your reaction!

Ok, gotta break this down again, since nobody understands Ichigo as usual... Ichigo like Aizen, wants to belong. That's why in the beginning he despises seeing ghosts. He just wants to be a normal dude. He has a soft heart that was buried by the trauma of losing his mom. That's the whole reason he comes off as indifferent and unmotivated, but becomes a monster when push comes to shove. His entire being is devoted to "masking" his true nature in order to NOT stand out, and the plot is about learning to merge with that mask in order to become a complete person. Epic reaction to an epic song though, keep it up.
I appreciate the love and here's my issue with Ichigo, everything you said about him is correct but it's us the fan's who gave him that depth of personality. From the stand point of how Tite Kubo wrote him we don't actually get those moments where it's self reflective of - wanting to belong, or masking him, and so on. We filled in those holes rather than it being written into Ichigo.

Having books in his room does not "show" a hobby, now if he recollected and discussed them or showed knowledge of English literature without us ever seeing him read then YES absolutely that is a beautiful show don't tell moment. But just drawing books in a room is lazy. I own numerous novels and textbooks, I have barely touched them and they don't make up my character the same way someone can own no books but be a literati. Tite didn't give us an interest, Tite said he got a job, that's not an interest that's a life necessity. Everyone has or needs a job. His reason to fight is to protect his people and it eventually grows, yes. By and large it is reactionary. And this is an aspect that I meme the heck out of but I do appreciate. Ichigo is a victim of fate who through no fault of his own is constantly pulled into life threatening battles to defend his loved ones and that is fine. Is it repetitive that they always get kidnapped, yes, but that's just lazy writing and I won't genuinely bash Ichigo for that. My point in the reaction and my point here is that Tite Kubo did not do a good job of fleshing out Ichigo as a person. If I have to dig into: interviews and take the smallest grain of evidence to give a character some form of tapestry then you failed as a writer to give me a character who is fully fleshed out. There are plenty of other characters in the show and outside of the show who have that "show don't tell" aspect to them, and I agree telling is lazy. But Tite didn't show the pieces of Ichigo he should have. Hell I know more about Yuzu and Karin his sisters than I do Ichigo. Plus it shouldn't take till the end of the series and Ichigo getting an English Literature degree for me to realize he likes reading books. I COMPLETELY get your point and there are aspects of Ichigo that can be over looked BUT I shouldn't need a telescope and an Electromagnetic Spectrometer to know what makes up the person known as Ichigo Kurosaki.

Ichigo has power arcs and good dialog with Shiro and Zangetsu but his character doesn't develop. And also just because other media does something doesn't mean it's good and doesn't mean I have to like it. I'm not the biggest fan of Harry Potter. I love Bleach and I love Ichigo but there is a discernable reason when it comes to conversations about best and top protagonists Ichigo doesn't come up often because he doesn't offer the same depth as other protags. At the end this is my view point after having spent a long time reading, watching, rereading, rewatching and researching the series. Everyone is allowed to have their own views on how well or not well a character was written. You presented some interesting points about Ichigo but my opinion is one that's founded on a long time understanding of Ichigo that I have. And plus you don't have to look far to see that even beyond Ichigo, Tite Kubo is not a good writer, there's a reason Bleach went from being valued at rank 1.57 or something to literally being forcefully canceled by Shonen Jump (not withstanding the bad blood between them already)

Find me a source that said Bleach was canceled. There was also no bad blood between them, find me another source. Heck in an interview Kubo himself stated that WSJ basically begged him to come back and post Burn The Witch. Which itself was a hobby for the author and had no plans to publish it. Even during the event of the Bleach anime and Burn the Witch announcement the man in charge of WSJ was present. And the reason the manga was rushed was also officially stated by the author in a radio interview. Not to mentioned that Bleach anime ended 9 years ago and its dvd sales in Japan WITHOUT an anime are saying more than Naruto's dvd sales. The animation and filler arcs were way better.
