  • Know to how to make Avalakki Chivda or Poha Chivda the popular evening snack loved by all. In this video, we will see how to make Avalakki Chivda with green chillies. The alternative is to prepare Chivda using Red Chilli powder for which we will post a separate video. Narrated in Kannada with English subtitles.

    Ingredients:
    Paper Avalakki or Poha - 4 Cups
    Oil - 3 Tbsp
    Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
    Green Chillies - 2
    Ground nuts - 4 Tbsp
    Curry Leaves - 15-20
    Dried coconut pieces - 15 cut into lengthwise
    Roasted Bengal Gram - 1/4 Cup
    Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
    Salt
    Powdered Sugar - 1 tsp
    Method:
    In a big Kadai, add 4 Cups of Thin Poha or Avalakki. Roast Avalakki in low flame for about 2 minutes and switch off the flame.
    Keeping Poha or Avalakki in a same kadai, mix it well with the help of Spatula to roast evenly for about 5 minutes and remove it to a plate to cool down. Once Avalakki cools down completely, they turn crispy. Do not roast more in order to make Avalakki crispier since they will shrink.
    Now Heat 3 Tbsp of Oil in a kadai. Add 1 tsp of Mustard Seeds; once they splutter, add 2 slit Green Chillies and fry till they turn crispy.
    Now add 4 Tbsp of Groundnuts and fry till they turn golden in color.
    Then add 15-20 Curry Leaves and fry till they turn crispy.
    Then add dry Coconut pieces and fry till they turn slightly brown in color.
    Immediately add 1/4 Cup of Roasted Bengal Gram and fry for a minute.
    Now add Turmeric Powder and mix.
    Then add roasted and cooled Thin Poha or Avalakki and switch off the flame.
    Mix everything once and add Salt as per your taste.
    Next add 1 tsp Powdered Sugar and mix well.
    Now Avalakki Chivda is ready to serve. Once the Avalakki cools, transfer to an air tight container that you can preserve it for nearly 20 days. Quality cooking wares that I love and recommend. Many of these I use every day in my kitchen and in the videos as well. Thank you.
