17:30 the pronoun used by Sylphiette when she talks is "boku", that's a common boy pronoun for "I" (though it can used by girls too, but it's rare). It's easy to not notice that since we don't have those differences, but I think that was one of the main reasons that Rudy kept thinking that she was a "he", besides her short hair.
It's generally rly only used by tomboys, tho. It makes sense, as tomboys would prolly mostly have boys as friends, so it'd be the word they hear everyone use from rly young age, now that I think of why it is so...
@@ants-in-my-eyesjohnson1271 they aren't, at the beginning we literally heard them speaking an obviously different language, it just has similar structure to Japanese and things such as boku and watashi have a direct translation unlike English where the closest thing is I even though its not quite the same
On Sylphiette having a different hair color than her parents... That doesn't really mean anything, necessarily. I mean, they obviously know who her mother is, and she has the same ears as her father. It could, however, be a recessive gene from one of her parents. Maybe her maternal grandfather is a Superd. I don't know, and it's possible there was something else going on, but I doubt it. Elves aren't usually common in a small village like this is set in, so the chances of her having a different father than she thinks seems pretty low to me.
To defend a bit our boy Rudy on the novel Sylphiette hair is even shorter, and the clothes are masculine (they are second hand because the poverty of her family), Rudeus assumed that was natural to someone with elf heritage be a bit feminine, "Sylph" is very neutral name at best and she never corrected him about her name(that was cut by the wind), not every language has gendered pronouns. Also the novel make very clear that he was true depressed with the relations with sylph being awkward and value restore and maintain the previous relationship more that any "future developments" even if Rudy being Rudy let his mind wander around sometimes.
@@jebes909090 the manga is not that far(around the middle of what the future S2 is gona cover), the English LN is crazy slow too, the anime is full steam ahead with full commitment of the studio(that as practically founded to make this anime specifically) with 2 cours(24+ ep) on season 1 and the season 2 already has green light
I know I am a little late to the party on this reaction, but wanted to mention that the show subtly tells you not to trust it back in episode one. It introduces the concept of the "unreliable narrator" with the magic guide book being wrong about two important points, and rudy figuring out that it is wrong straight away. If the text books in the story can't be trusted to get things right, why should we trust the characters to get things right? It really doubled down on it this episode too, not only with the Slyphie misgendering debacle, but also with Paul getting told lies about the kid's black eye. Everybody gets things wrong sometimes, and Rudy is no exception.
Last time I did that to my asian parents and the entire family carrying our name basically looks at me like some kind of plague that needs to be exterminated... and that's why I live alone now... away from them... :|
Japanese doesn't really *have* heavily gendered pronouns like English does. The word Rudy uses once he finally learns that she's a girl is _kanojo_ which literally means "that girl" and it's one of the only explicitly third person feminine pronouns (and, coincidentally, can also mean "girlfriend"). But, more often, you'd just use _yatsu_ in informal speech which can equally mean "he" or "she". Now, if she had referred to herself as _atakushi_ which is the first person pronoun "I" but used more often by females, that might have been a giveaway, but even that isn't exclusively used by women in the same way that _boku_ means "I" and is usually used by males, but a girl can also use it and it gives the impression that she's a tomboy. So if he heard her refer to herself as "atakushi", Rudy would probably think "Sylph" acted just as effeminate as he looked.
the author dodges give clues/plot holes this way since they are talking a fantasy idiom. So is no use get so deep on the which pronouns where used but the context of you comment is spot on.
I get bully sometimes but I fight back and even thou I beat the one that bullied me, they don’t bother telling the school principal or other teachers because I don’t know , sometimes we confronted student that bullies, btw Im a filipino student here in japan
great episode as usual, though hoping we get Erza as well next week. nothing wrong with your and directors reaction but am looking forward to the "fresh eyes" in isekai as well
Funny thing is the reason Japan _does_ have so many school gangs is _because_ of those rules. They basically never "advanced" or restructured their "modern educational system" after we gave them *ours* back in the 50s, for all its cons and benefits. SO actually you would be safer with a gang than relying on teachers or other school officials, in fact that's one reason the whole "reformed yakuza becoming a teacher" genre is even a thing. (Great Teacher Onizuka, Gokusen) Basically gangs are the only ones strong enough to stand up against rules lawyering do-nothing administrators. Also Japan is very litigation averse, from seeing how _we_ handled the 70s and 80s. Much of the non-involvement in student lives is all about liability. School policies are all centered around evading responsibility for _anything_ that may happen on the school grounds no matter the cause, which leads to two oddball anime tropes of its own (the Absurdly Powerful School Student Council acting as a children's provisional government, and fights between super powered kids ripping up the school with no punishment) In economic philosophy texts the way they work is called a "factory learning mentality" which makes sense when you think about the time period we built their schools. It's all about sacrificing the few to "maintain school wide stability" hence administrators actually *punishing* teachers who try to teach off or modify the curriculum on their own. (The primary conflict of those reformed gang leader teachers series, also often a background element of any series about delinquents)
To be sort of fair to Paul those kids went home and told some major lies. I think it was just one kids mom who got some twisted ass story. He thought his son was out causing trouble. Also by this point remember Paul is still a fairly young man and up to this point Rudy has been pretty self sufficient. They have had to honestly do little work as parents as far as behavior correction.
Eh... I doubt it's only a Japan thing... I don't see teachers breaking it up and helping bullied students where I grew up... And the teachers know what's going on, and still pretend like nothing's happening. :D
The moment I saw Silpyhie in the anime I didn't give it a second thought I'm like that's a girl I don't care how many times he said he I said that's is a girl and I knew the moment he said he something was going to happen That would make him look stupid Because I swear when they were both laying down in the grass before it started raining Sylvie look like she had a chest. So the entire time I knew they were setting something up to go wrong and I'm like how do you not see that this is a girl.
Sylphiette/Sylph is a girl afterall and It's seem she's gonna end up with Rudy in future as his wife or part of his family.I hope they end up marrying (She's Cute tho 😆😆😆)
i made the one mistake i told myself i would never do, i watched an anime i liked that was still airing, therefore my impatient ass starting reading the manga and spoiled myself for about the next 10 episodes........FML
