Sameeee I have to break what has been a Gamegenic loyalty streak (their stuff is just so good) for Boulder 80 for a standard deck because the Bastion 100+ are just too dang big, even with the bunch of Incubator and Mite tokens I have. It's a shame they only have the 50+ which is good for a single sleeved standard deck but absolutely cannot fit a double sleeved standard deck let alone with tokens too
Not putting the matte coating is a good move from Gamegenic, the residue/flacks that comes out from that coating really gets into card sleeves and are annoying to deal with (in Ultimate Guard Boulder). I'm hoping Gamegenic will release an smaller version for Yugi-Oh! or other Japanese size decks.
Here's a bonus random thought. One of my favorite products from Game Genics is the fourtress. It's made of a nice semi-flexible plastic, is 10 bucks, and holds 4 60 card decks or 2 100 card decks with space to spare, and is 10 bucks! It's a super awesome budget option for casual kitchen table decks. Bonus bonus thought, while game genic is surely 1 upping ultimate guard in a lot of areas, I absolutely dislike the dungeon and greatly prefer the omnihive. My dungeon fell apart after six month, divider comes right out. Still works fine for keeping it on a shelf at home but it absolutely did not survive trips to the LGS. Sadly I didn't tell them when it happened otherwise they might have replaced it. I guess we'll never know.
I'm hoping that the Bastion will be available here. I want the clear ones. The problem with the Boulder isn't the flaking-I can get by that. The problem, for me at least, is that I have 2 more that became sticky over time. That's a lot more annoying than the flaking issue. The clear boulders don't give either issue I think but they're hard to come by.
I know the Boulders have also been pushing the Return to Earth line, and soon we'll be seeing the "Made in America" line here in the US. Those don't suffer from the sticky issue as far as I'm aware. I hope Bastions are available to you as well!
Looks like the Bastion has a little more headroom inside? That might solve a problem I have with Boulders: They are a little too short to hold Euro sleeves (like you'd use for Dominion). That could make the Bastion a good solution for folks who want modular storage for their Dominion cards.
This is a great idea! I don't have any on hand to confirm, but it does look like there is about 1/5 to 3/4 of a mm headroom over a Dragon Shield sleeve so this might be a good solution for that!
Very interesting! I really like the Boulders, but have found they kind of leave slight corner bends in the dragon shields matte sleeves I use for my commander decks. This may be a way to go. I'd be interested to see how the Basion stacks up against the ultrapro satin tower. They were favorites before I got my boulder. I found the satin tower just a little too bulky and the closures were a little more tough to open than the boulders. I'm also interested in these other gamegenic products, the slide single card case and their cube packs. I'm still a fan of the second generation of the dragon shield cube packs, but I like the fact that the gamegenic offering gives a place to i.d. what's in the pack. Thanks for another great video!
Do your Gamegenic slide cases have issues staying closed? Mine slide open really easily if any pressure is put on them. Are they supposed to snap shut?
Mine do seem to snap shut. In fact I have a good amount of footage of me struggling to get them open once I click them shut. But before the snap they do seem pretty loose. I hope that helps!
I appreciate this review! I found it hard to find a comparison directly between boudler and bastion in this way. I think based on this I'd go with the bastion. I was just wondering, do you happen to know if a bastion 50+ fits 60 single sleeved cards (using dragonshields or katanas)? And do you know how many bastion 50+ fit in an Arkhive 800+? I watched your other video and think I prefer Arkhive/Omnihive to a Dungeon
With the 50+ it cannot hold 60 single sleeved cards, sadly. It can fit about 54 and that is super tight. As for the Arkhive and Omnihive, it can fit about double of the amount in those since they are about half the size of the 100+. (eg. 6 100+'s fit in an 800+ Arkhive, so about 12 50+'s can fit the same.) I hope that helps!
How many double sleeved cards (assuming thick sleeves like sealable inners) will the cube pocket fit? Would like to put my sideboard for Modern in one.
They can fit 15 perfectly! With Dragon Shield Dual Mattes and Dragon Shield Sealable inner sleeves, I was about to fit 16, but it was tight. 15 felt fine. I tried to get 17 in there but it started to bend the cards. Hope that helps!
Quick question, which do you prefer: the Gamegenic Cube Pockets or Cubeamajigs Series 2? And are they the same size as S1 Cubemajigs? I'm prepping a Jumpstart battle box using 48-50 packs in an Omnihive (with both drawers) and need to know which to buy haha. Excellent video as usual Nate!
Thank you so much! I've been using the Cubeamajig series II for a few months, and I must admit I like the Gamegenic ones just a bit more. I really like the way the closure is and how easier it is to use.
I just checked mine and it can fit 4 100+ in the regular Quiver. I can't check the bolt because I don't have one but I expect it can fit in there as well. Just not as many. Hope that helps!
I just checked and sadly, no. It's just too big of a deck. It can fit the outer sleeves, so a double sleeved deck (with "regular" outer sleeves and the new "Outer" sleeve) will fit, but if you add perfect fits to the mix, it's too much for it. I hope that helps!
I can't speak to the 600+ as I do not have one, but I can say it does not fit in the 400+. The 400+ wasn't made to hold deck boxes. I don't think the 600+ was either, but like I said, I can't say 100%. I hope that helps!
The one in the video is over 7 years old and I've literally stood on it and thrown it at walls and concrete. (Not in anger, just to prove Boulders are like tanks). If you take good care of the boulders and don't knock them around, the soft touch will last for a long time.
@@beyondthedeckbox ok ok so as long as I don’t beat them up too bad lol I’ll probably be insterested in some 50/60+ bastions when they come out for Digimon. 55 card decks and no side as of now and the boulders are nice to have room for extra cards but it’s almost too much
Any updated thoughts on the cube pockets? I ordered some to try out on a jumpstart box, but found that it was a little too difficult to both get 20 single sleeved cards in, as well as to safely get them out. Felt like I was going to damage the cards in some cases with how tight it was. Could have just been the batch that I received, but if it was just 1 mm or so wider I would have bought loads of them! Ended up going with some burger token boxes so I could double sleeve instead.
So i owned an arkhive 800 that fit my boulders but once i tried fitting my bastions, it wouldnt fit well at all towards each side of the arkhive. You had to force the bastions in. So i had my LGS order the smaller Dungeon to address that. I hate it too cuz the xenoskin is noice 😮💨
On camera it was a the 100+ but I just tested it in the 133+ and the lid doesn't snap shut. Technically you could fit 5-6 on the side in the box, but that leaves a lot of extra room around them and they don't fully fit longways in the box. Hope that helps!
My only concern with the Bastion would be the durability of those prongy bits. Also I love that gamegenic makes cube pockets, shame there's no fancy art on them like the cubeamajigs.
It's almost a perfect fit. As for the 550+ it's 5 will fit and again it's almost perfect. There is a smidge of room, but not enough to put anything other than a few cards at most. I hope that helps!
I don't have either of the Stanley 10 or 12 compartment organizers BUT I have the Craftsman one. They fit in that but you have to take the compartment out of the space you put it in. It does fit quite nicely in the space those and is basically the same size as the compartment. Hope that helps!
It does! The only thing it can't seem to manage is a 100 triple sleeved cards. But everything else it handles with extra room to spare! Hope that helps!
I found when you do the shake test, you can't hold it by it's sides. Because that is where you pinch to open it. And when you do the shake test you tend to pinch to hold onto the box. Hold on the front and back, and it should pass. None of my Bastions failed when I did it this way.
@@beyondthedeckbox I'm pretty sure we avoided pinching the sides when we held it upside down to do the shake tests that failed, but I can certainly try again with some draft chaff! My Bastion also failed once when I fully secured it and my friends cat knocked it over. Cards went everywhere since it fell upside down through the air.
I hope they have plans for an 80+ bastion in the future. 100 is just a little too big for my needs, but these are gorgeous.
Same here! I LOVE smaller box sizes and a smaller version of this would be perfect for me.
Definitely! Hopefully with the “XL” moniker on this one, there will be a non-XL sized for games with 50-60ish main deck cards!

Hey this review is great! I was genuinely surprised when I looked down and saw your sub count was sub 5k. Keep up the great work!

I saw the announcement of those, but wanted to see some reviews before buying. Thanks.

Will a Smarthive fit 4 Bastions?
The bastion also fits inside of the Gamegenic watch tower as a nifty trick!

Check out the Satin Cube. Same basic thing as the Tower, but without the dice tray. Love them!
I do kind of want to get my hand on a few of them. The colors are nice. But I still prefer sidewinders.

Thank you so much! And they do! Quite well actually! You can probably fit about 5 in the drawers and 4 in the top section. I hope that helps!
Great video! ✌✌ So, the game genic slider card case will not fit into a Ultimate Guard Boulder? :(
That is correct. They will "fit" but the boulder won't close completely. So you can sit them in the boulder on the table, but the boulder won't shut.
@@beyondthedeckbox Thank sfor your answer. Waht a shame, :( I'll have to change to Bastion XL... ✌✌
Does the Bastion XL fit in the Quiver? If so, how many?
It does! But you can't put a playmat in the zippered pouch in the lid. You can fit 4 by my count. Hope that helps!

do they fit in the quiver
I don't have a quiver on hand. I'm not sure. I'll check and report back as soon as I can!

Changed my mind. My friends and I found out that the Bastions instantly fail the shake test test when held upside down.
I found when you do the shake test, you can't hold it by it's sides. Because that is where you pinch to open it. And when you do the shake test you tend to pinch to hold onto the box. Hold on the front and back, and it should pass. None of my Bastions failed when I did it this way.

The appeal of boulders is that they fit precisely. In my eyes, the extra room on the bastions is not an improvement at all.
