Everything Doc has told me to do to my bermuda lawn has worked. Just let go of my yardmen and I will be doing everything myself from now on.Thanks Doc.
Doc knows his Bermuda. I took over a lawn of Bermuda that wasn't treated properly for years. Had a mix of winter grass and patches of Bermuda. I was going to aerate and over seed. Instead I'm following Doc's advice and this lawn is the best on the block 4 months later. It's even bleeding over on my next door neighbors lawn. I know by next year the neighbors will be asking me for secrets. I'll refer them to your channel.
I wish I watched and followed you before I got army worms. It come over my yard like a storm over night. They are so fast and started on the next doors. Told him about you and now we are trying to keep on top of it. Thanks for your good info!
Thanks Doc. I fired my lawn chemical service this year because of all the DYI tips I got from your channel. I've downloaded the calendar and have made a budget and dates for fertilizer, pre emergent and Humic acid.
Thanks for all the great lawn advice. I'm in Georgia also and have the same type of Bermuda grass. It's great to have all these localized tips for my grass type.
Great information that I was looking for. I am starting this program in June and will be doing ALL of my lawn work that's in your calendar. Hoping to have a beautiful lawn soon especially next year. Thank you Doc!!
I just found your videos and I am excited about getting my lawn together and cancelling the lawn services I currently have. However, I have to admit you make it look so simple and I am clueless regarding anything related to homes and lawns. So its bit overwhelming dealing with the ratios, time frames, specific treatments, but I am most certainly going to give this a try. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
Yeah!! Awesome! I just got the notification advising of the new video. I’ve been sharing your videos with Management here at work. Hands down you are The Doc of yards!
I’ve recently learned about your channel and have been binge watching a lot of your previous content. Thanks for continuing to post new items at relevant times of the year. I enjoy being a subscriber and seeing the notification!
Thanks Doc for making the 2019 calendar available so soon in the year. This is a very useful tool and I do hang this in my garage as well as add the dates to my calendar for reminders. Also, I would encourage other to look at your Soil Temperature Maps on your website. This is VERY useful.
Hey Doc thanks for the assist on Bermuda grass my lawn is one of the best in my neighborhood. Can you help on identifying all the horrid weeds. Its hard to know what your fighting some times. The internet has a lot of discrepancies on phots of weeds. Thanks for the calander!
What you said in this video about “warm fronts moving up,” is exactly what happened this spring, 2020. We had 60-70° temperatures in freaking January! My Poa Annua popped up and I got a “love letter” from my HOA on a record, early date. 😡 I found a product called “Image,” that is supposed to kill Poa Annua, post-emergent, but it’s taking too long.
I have to strip off all the weeds (a variety of them) and re plant vs reseed I’m in MO. Can I plant Bermuda seed like 6 weeks from today. I intend on spraying the entire area with Killz and then I air rate enough to have at least 1” of soil. We plan on selling in 15 months or so and need to get some curb side appeal back Some history .... we have owned this house for 10 years. It’s a city lot about 130’x100’. No sprinkler system. I have done the above method twice using tall turf fescue. People walking by would have a favorable comment about my lawn. It seems the extreme summer heat of a 2 week period arrives and boom. All kinds of weeds take over. I was told most of the topsoil was stripped off during the build. With prior reseeding using the same method mentioned I was able to tackle sections. My concern is I’d typically kill it off toward the middle of July and
Army worms infested our neighborhood here in Fort Worth Texas. It was a HUGE pain because neighbors didn’t take care of there’s when I was taking care of mine. I almost went broke treating my lawn. Now, i didn’t know how tricky Bermuda grass was when it comes to crab grass and weeds. I think I have waited to long to use pre emergent. I had no idea what it even was until now. Now I’m worried about what I should be doing.
I love your videos I’m learning a lot is there anyway you can take a picture of the calendar with notes on it that you can share with us for this year.
Hi! I live in Central Texas (Killeen Texas). I don’t know or understand how to adjust the calendar for my area. Can you explain how I can do it? Waiting for the Super Juice!!!
I do this to ways. 1, I bought a soil thermometer on Amazon for about 14 bucks. You want to get pre emergent down before the soil hits 50 degrees. The other way is to check the website greencastonline.com to check soil temperatures in your area. For example the average soil temperature in Kileen TX for 1/29 is 50 degrees. You probably want to put down pre emergent soon, like this weekend.
Enjoying your how to videos Doc! Thanks for taking the time to tell and explain chapter and verse. Any suggestion where I might get a couple of Anderson Hose Spray Bottles?Amazon and e-Bay are out with no telling when and if they might have them in stock. Lowe's and HomeDepot don't carry them. Any alternates if Anderson is not an option?
Holy cow! Thank you for sooo much good info! We live in Oklahoma and just bought a house with Bermuda and there were a lot of weeds. I’ve been trying to fight them. This year I’ve put weed and feed in late March/early April, but some weeds still made it through. I just sprayed the back yard yesterday with some weed and crab grass killer. I think I’m gonna go get some pre emergent tomorrow. I also didn’t know that Bermuda likes to be short! Would it be too late to scalp? I’m really trying to have a pretty lawn, but I feel like I keep getting it wrong. Thank you again for all the great info!
doc, what about moss on the ground, at least that is what it looks like to me. i live on lake front property. i am six feet or so above the water line, but my yard seems to stay wet after a rain longer than usual. I do have drainage pipes in the yard. not sure if that is causing it. I can send a pic if you like. i know you are busy. thanks for any help. I found your vidoes last august after I moved in to the house in june. I started your regiment in sept and notice a difference already. thanks for everything you do for us novices of lawn care....FRANK- North Carolina
If I put down pre emergent now here in Fort Worth Texas is it to late? Will it hurt anything? I had no clue when I put down Bermuda grass it would be this difficult to have a lawn.
I noticed that we own the same granular spreader, without the option to turn off the gains spreading to a side. How crucial is it to keep pre emergent out of flower beds, and if it's pretty vital, how do you keep your's out of your beds
Hi Doc - I also live in GA, (Smyrna) - 2 questions for you....1st - with the record breaking heat we have had all September, does this allow some grace period as it relates to applying the 2nd Pre-emergent treatment? As you know, it has really been hot in GA this Sept, with today being the 3rd day of Oct, I was seeking to apply pre-emergent this weekend and came across your channel (Subscribed as well).......2nd Question - is there a specific lawnmower you recommend for achieving a quality cut every time? My front lawn has a different type of Bermuda than my backyard, front is so much thicker that it literally will stop my lawnmower if I let it grow too long, I want to take it down and that becomes a challenge...Currently have a self-propelled push with a Briggs & Stratton engine. Find this channel has been a godsend for me, especially because you are also in GA & understand the conditions we face...Thanks
When is a good time to level your yard? After scaling? And what sand/topsoil ratio would you use? Do you have a video on this? Btw I’m in Birmingham, AL. Thanks and I love your videos and I’ll be following your suggestions.
Hey Doc. I live in western New York, and the people who lived here before me had a Bermuda grass lawn put in. I moved in the year 2011, and for years it was lush and gorgeous. It is now 2019 and for the past few years its been slowly becoming less and less green. I am an absolute rookie with this type of grass as I treated it like a normal lawn all this time. I have never Aerated or de-thatched it. Its now August so I assume its too late for either of those, but I would love to start this calendar (dates adjusted for New York weather). What time of year should I be de-thatching and how often should it be done? And also any and all advice in general would be appreciated. Thanks Doc!
Great ! When do we start the preemergent here in Georgia? I thought that you said Feb or so. Also, I have been using preemergent for the last year but still weeds , could you please help me? Thanks so much
I live in north Florida (Panama City Beach), soil temperatures never get below 55 degrees which seem to be the time for pre emergents. I sprayed in 8 month rate in February and plan again in September at the four month rate. Should I wait until grass starts to green before weed treatment for entire lawn since I always have lots of weeds. Sedgehammer Herbicide is what I bought but not sure when to apply.
Thanks for all the info Doc. I am about ready to get out my pre-emergent and super juice once its available. I have chickens that I allow to run in my yard. They typically do not come on my grass but I do worry about them. I also have a dog and 17 month old that enjoy the grass, how long do I need to keep them off my grass once I treat the grass?
Hi Doc, i live in alpharetta, GA. I got an ugly bermuda with lots of weed. What product would you suggest to make my bermuda great again? Today is october 2019.
Doc, We moved into a north Atlanta home in April and I have been battling getting a dense lawn due to all the normal challenges, light, soil, weeds, weeds, grass variety, etc. My question for today is how do I get a dense carpet of Bermuda? I have multiple grass varieties and one of them is awesome. Thick carpet in an area of 20'x20' and right next to it is a type that seems to want to send out a lot of runners but is not dense. What do I do to get it all dense? Can I try to determine what type it is and over-seed the other Bermuda? Can I take sprigs and try to sprig the other section? The sun and the soil and etc are the same for both areas ...it is like they put two different types of sod down 20 years ago when they built the house. Thanks a bunch Mike
Hmmm... I might get some high quality seed like yukon or blackjack and re-seed the entire yard. That's probably the fastest way to get it sort of "even". That would be done probably next early June.
So I have an annual rye grass in my back yard and I want to seed Bermuda this spring. To clarify, my yard was basically dirt heading into winter so I had barely any existing Bermuda. Should I avoid pre-emergent if I plan on seeding? My plan this spring was to scalp the rye and then seed the Bermuda, followed by a fertilizer.
Thanks for the video doc, great work. Question, when looking at the Bermuda Calendar Wheel it says to adjust the outer ring based on your ZONE and region. I'm in central texas (austin) how do i know where to roll the wheel? I'm confused. Thanks!
Thanks, great info. Is there any advice on putting out Superjuice on large yards? I have over 40,000 sq ft and that's a lot of small jars of juice. Also, when I scalp my yard, there's tons of cut grass that end up like little dams in the yard. I know the answer is probably bag it when mowing but man that's a lot of bagging. Any better ideas? Does it even matter?
Hello Doc I am a big fan from San Antonio Texas. I keep my hybrid bermuda about 2" and it has remained green through out our "winter". Should I still scalp my lawn?
Do you have a video for lightening and/or removing oil stains from concrete? Did a search but I didnt see anything and TH-cam has many but nothing solid.
Hey doc. Can u give some info/advice for starting a new lawn from scratch. I only have like 2 patches of beemuda in my 1 yr old yard and the rest is weeds. My yard is 20,000 sq ft. Im in louisiana around Baton Rouge. I dont even know where to buy my new seed from. HELP!!! Lol
Great info... If you were to reseed would you hold off on the preemergent and seed in april? Best way to overseed a lawn? How do you feel about the homedepot lesco preemergent?
I don't like to over seed Bermuda SOD... there's a video on that...but if you do it should be done in June. If you plan on reseeding the keep away from PEs even though some say it's OK after 3 months. It still can have an impact on rooting.
How do I deal with full grown crabgrass in my lawn? Can I use an actual weed killer without damaging the grass? Or shall I use a Pre-Emergent? Or should I dig it out?
Im new to the lawn care team so sorry for my ignorance. I was going to follow Scotts app and i already put down Scotts crab grass preventer but it ended up raining the same day. Would it be ok to begin following your program now with the granular and liquid preemergents?
Look at the active ingredient in the scotts and use a different chemical in a spray form in about 2-3 weeks and keep the treatment light. Do not put down another gran.
I just tried to order the Anderson’s Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent 50lb bag and Amazon is out of stock. Do you know when it will be available? I’d like to put it down.
Hey Doc I have a really important question for you how do I get rid of centipede grass that’s in my Bermuda grass. It was like this when we bought the house .P.S Please help
I'm kicking myself. I live in NC and in February I made the big mistake of spot treating weeds with Round Up. Now that the Bermuda is just starting to green up, I can see that the grass under all those spots is dead. It's probably 10% of my lawn. Is there anything I can do other than just wait for it to naturally fill in?
Going into fall I had lots of major bare spots due to a drain and failed sod so I put annual rye to prevent having a muddy yard all winter. I assume that pre-emergants would be bad when I start putting seed out on the bare spots. Any thoughts on what to do?
@@HowTowithDoc Thats what I figured. What are your thoughts on overseeding with winter rye on a healthy lawn during the winter? Thanks again for your help. I Have made these my go to for my yard.
Doc, help me man! I put down spectracide weed stop in Aug or Sept because I had weeds growing up strong. I had a fertilizer service that I had to cancel and I didn't know what all they had done. Then, I put down more spectracide weed stop in beginning of Jan to stop winter weeds. I planned on putting more down in March. But I have quite a lot of what looks like crab grass, new growth in my front yard! Should I put more down or should I go with the spray you mentioned at the beginning?
@@HowTowithDoc SC. I feel like my pre emergent isn't doing anything. I have Bermuda sod in the front and a hodge podge of Bermuda, centipede and something cheap in the back (I live in a starter home neighborhood). Should I trust it or put something new down? Also in my back yard where the weeds are the worst, I've got a pretty good amount of bare areas.
@@HowTowithDoc definitely poa annua, from comparing with pictures online. I'm gonna try Image that's on your website for winter weeds. For pre emergent, I put a 3000 Sq ft bag of weed stop, my yard is probably not quite that big, but close. Should I come back with a liquid pre emergent, or will that be overkill? Trying to prevent big stuff later on, but don't want to hurt my lawn.
I bought a home (for the home) in South TX and the huge corner lot yard is all weeds with little leftover patches of Bermuda. I’m going to order the barricade and super juice but need to kill the weeds and will leave a bare yard. Thinking I need to seed with Bermuda. Do I seed after barricade or before?
Thank you sir and thank you for your service. That’s what I figured. I’d like to DIY, support your videos, and use your products. How do I send you a video
Hey Doc I have a question. I have centipede sod on my front and Bermuda in the back. I am trying to get control of my front lawn because it sat for a year in attended. I was told I have fungus and a large patch that is lighter in color and the blades appear like hair. I know this is not the way it is supposed to look. Do you have any idea what it might be and how do I get rid of it. I have laid a fungicide and super juice all last year but still not cured 😩. I am in middle GA too. Help please 🙏🏼
Hmmmmmm…… have you tried digging a hole in that light spot to inspect it? There might be something sub-surface that is causing it. If you do have severe fungus then MULTIPLE heavy treatments are sometimes require. Also, don't water too often. Hard call.
Hey Doc - just discovered you. Found some amazing tips - thank you. I am also in GA. I have a massive lawn and use "Lawn Doctor" have you heard of them? I'd like to connect because I have a lot of problem areas and want some tips. Thank you!
Please help me be a little more intelligent, I understand Barricade, Dimension, and Prodiamine are all three pre-emergents. What's best and what's cheaper? I don't expect a penny to penny breakdown but you have to have more knowledge than most. I don't know if I've put down anything other than prodiamine because it was in Sedge Ender.
I live in Grundy, Virginia. I am getting ready to purchase Bermuda grass seed to put into my existing lawn but there are SOOOOOO MANY types and I do jot know which one to use. A co-worker has Bermuda and said she will give me some to start in my lawn but it will o my be a small amount and I need to get something started this spring as we just moved here in October and have an American BULLDOG and the grass is very minimal which allows a lot of dirt and mud to come into the house. Can use help me to pick which Bermuda grass I should select for my already established sparse lawn?????
I'd rather see you PUSH your lawn in the spring with heavy fertilization. If that doesn't work you need to match the texture of the current Bermuda. FYI, the big box Bermuda seed will not match FINE bladed Bermuda. Look for a seed company that knows what they're doing.
@@HowTowithDoc My lawn doesn't have any Bermuda grass. That is what I am trying to start and that is why I need to know what to purchase. Any help is greatly appreciated.
@@HowTowithDoc I checked those out and a couple are sold out or discontinued and my husband and I are just average working people in the coalfields of southwest Virginia. The one that was left is quite a bit out of my price range. 400 and some odd dollars is just too much and I do not need 50 lbs. Any other ideas??? Sorry to bother you but I do not want to purchase something and put all the work in to not have any grass at the end of summer. I am very fond of the Bermuda grass and I know it stands up to heavy foot traffic and that is what I need with my American bulldog. Also, when I scalp my yard, there's tons of cut grass that end up like little dams in the yard. I know the answer is probably bag it when mowing but man that's a lot of bagging. Any better ideas? Does it even matter?
Always bag when scalping. Always. Watch the scalp video it's an entire truck load. I hire a crew. Worth the money.
How would you say this calendar would work for a blue/rye/fescue mix lawn in NJ? Any adjustments you can recommend?
Doc can you do a video that covers a 2019 calendar for cool season grass types (bluegrass, fescue, perennial rye) Thanks!
Could you do a video and calendar for north eastern grass lawns
Doc what county do you live in. Middle GA myself. Just curious.
Hello Doc... I assume i can follow the same path with zoysia (fine blade) grass?
Hello Doc I am a big fan from San Antonio Texas. I keep my hybrid bermuda about 2" and it has remained green through out our "winter". Should I still scalp my lawn?
Hmmm.... Tough call.... but I probably would just to remove any dead stuff that might be in there.
@@HowTowithDoc Thank you
Do you have a video for lightening and/or removing oil stains from concrete?
What kind of lawn? No pre-emergent really if you plan to "reseed".
@@HowTowithDoc Its a Bermuda lawn, about 2 acres
I don't like to over seed Bermuda SOD... there's a video on that...but if you do it should be done in June. If you plan on reseeding the keep away from PEs even though some say it's OK after 3 months. It still can have an impact on rooting.
@@HowTowithDoc Thankyou, the grass is all seed has never been sodded
You're good to go then.
First viewer!! Yeah! Doc love the videos! Been meaning to ask can I use the super juice in conjunction with seeding?
Yes, great for seeding. Use in the 7-1-2 dilution.
How To with Doc do we have a price point on the super juice
he said in another video about $79
Question i have some bermuda already established in my yard choked out my fescue now i want to go with bermuda how do i go about the process thanks
Hi Doc, found your you tube videos and went to your website. Good info. Thanks. Is Supper Juice toxic to pets?
Outstanding information Doc! 👍thanks
Hi Doc, I live in Arizona and had a question about Pre-Emergent..... Can I put Pre-Emergent on my gravel areas? Thanks for your videos and lawn tips
Yes, it will help some. It stops cell division and development and remains in the soil underneath for while.
How do I deal with full grown crabgrass in my lawn? Can I use an actual weed killer without damaging the grass? Or shall I use a Pre-Emergent? Or should I dig it out?
Look at the DRIVE here: www.howtowithdoc.com/docs-product-links/best-weed-killers-bermuda-grass/
PFG not allowed in CA. ANy options to recommend?
What do you think about cutting grass and leaving grass clips on yard so microbes can eat them to return nutrients into ground? Good or bad!
Yes, leave them / return them unless thatch layer gets too thick.
Doc I have some pictures of my Bermuda And there are some word yellow stands coming out. Please help
Interesting, can you scalp St Augustine if so how low?
How do I get the super juice
I just tried to order the Anderson’s Barricade Granular Pre-Emergent 50lb bag and Amazon is out of stock. Do you know when it will be available? I’d like to put it down.
Yes, more on the way. Talked to them on Thursday.
Thank you for this. Question: house is a new build with sod that’s around 15 months old, is it safe to use pre-emergent on my relatively new sod?
Lightly... maybe one coat of the liquid around the right target date.
Can you give us Zoysia guys some tips. Does your Bermuda Grass tips apply to Zoysia?
Hey Doc I have a really important question for you how do I get rid of centipede grass that’s in my Bermuda grass. It was like this when we bought the house .P.S Please help
Thanks Doc
I'm kicking myself. I live in NC and in February I made the big mistake of spot treating weeds with Round Up. Now that the Bermuda is just starting to green up, I can see that the grass under all those spots is dead. It's probably 10% of my lawn. Is there anything I can do other than just wait for it to naturally fill in?
Yes, that's why we say NO to roundup. Steal runners and plant them in the dead pots.
I don't like this video, I love it thanks Doc! 💯 👍👍💪💪👌👌
When we scalp the lawn, what if we have a mulching sysytem on our mower? Do we rake up the dead grass or leave it?
Don't put down pre-emergent on new sod for one year.
Going into fall I had lots of major bare spots due to a drain and failed sod so I put annual rye to prevent having a muddy yard all winter. I assume that pre-emergants would be bad when I start putting seed out on the bare spots. Any thoughts on what to do?
Use a spray and avoid those areas. That's about all you can do.
@@HowTowithDoc Thats what I figured. What are your thoughts on overseeding with winter rye on a healthy lawn during the winter? Thanks again for your help. I Have made these my go to for my yard.
#1 …. I'm too lazy for winter rye. #2... it CAN compete a little with Bermuda in the early spring. But no big deal. Mainly a LAZY thing. :)
Location? Sounds like poa annua this time of year.
If you plan to seed DO NOT put down barricade. It stops the seeds from growing.
Thank you sir and thank you for your service. That’s what I figured. I’d like to DIY, support your videos, and use your products. How do I send you a video
Use your temperature as a real is correct
Hey Doc, who designed your intro, it's great!
Great information!!! Thanks!!!
Do you ever overseed a Bermuda grass lawn? If so, when would you do that if you needed to?
Best answer... www.bermudalawnguide.com/
one more question. what about centipede that has come up in my bermuda. how would i kill it. thanks
I have approx .25 of an acre. What should be my mixture of water and 2EW? The directions aren't very clear and are pretty confusing. Thanks
I think it's one to two pints per acre, have to go back and look. . That's 16 - 32 ounces per 42,000 sq ft. 1/2 ounce per 1000 sq ft should do it.
Hard call.
Will the 40lb bag of Humic DG be put back into stock on Amazon?
I think they are only doing the smaller bags now due to shipping damage on the 40 pounds.
So helpful!!! Thank you!
Yay Thanks Doc
Doc: I have Bermuda and st.Augustine mixed can I use the super juice and not damage my st.Augustine?
It works on ALL types of grasses.
freezing my @#% off today thinking about my yard !! Ordering some Super Juice!! eventually...
Princess 77, Yukon, and Riviera Bermudas are the best choices in premium bermuda grass

Again, thanks in advance for time and assistance and sorry to be such a bother.
Usually the finer the texture, the higher the cost. Go with what works for your budget. Just read up on seeding Bermuda before you start.
When would you recommend seeding Bermuda?

Is there a 2021 calendar???
On the website.
I never let my lawn go tall, it hides snakes. I haven't seen one yet.
What about scalping and/or aerating?
It's on the video.
Do you have a list of products you use on your grass. How do you find specific fertilizers that for mention such as 20-5-10?
