    Dude, you are hauling A$$. I have a 4-2 board like yours and frequently ride it on the lake behind my house but never that fast, too fast and quiet for wildlife to react lol. Just hitting a turtle at 20 mph can cause a pretty gnarly fall. And dont get me started on the gators... already hit one once just going ~16, I thought the mast ripped off.

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I've been riding like this for 3 years. Never hit anything. The loons and I have an agreement. They are no longer afraid of me riding around them and I won't get too close but they gotta stay where I can see them and make some noise if the sun is in my eyes. We coexist quite well and I even saved their chicks from an eagle last year by giving them an escort back to cover. Ehe eagle swooped down for an attempted attack on a chick and it dove and the momma loon ran interception. She lost some feathers in the tangle but wasn't debilitated. I surfed circles around them while the Eagle sat in a tree watching till they got back to the swampy shallows that offered them some cover. I love the eagles and I love the loons but the eagle can find another meal.

    Nice! Looking at ways I can do this in a salt water environment. What is mounted to the front right portion of your eFoil?

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ways to set up a course in saltwater? I think the same way I did. Saltwater is pretty much just water with salt in it. So, stuff will rust and corrode faster but I attached everything with aircraft aluminum cables and carabiners so corrosion should be minimized in both salt and freshwater. An episode on how to build a course is coming up in the next episode. I keep a standard action cam slide-mount in the front of my board for easy/secure attachments of cams, mics, vibration testers, speedometers, booms, etc. Basically, it allows me to test boards and record rides with greater accuracy. I shoot most of my content with an Insta360. Currently my fav cam is the X3 but I've shot with several different models.

  • @johnerickson2683
    @johnerickson2683 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fellow lift rider here. Do you feel the smaller wing lets you go faster while keeping the attitude of the board flat? I'm currently riding a 4'2 board with 150x38 surf V2 wing, and as a 175lbs rider I am always fighting flying out of the water at higher speeds.

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ways to solve breach:
      1. Taller mast
      2. Shift weight forward
      3. Smaller wings front and rear
      Smaller wings are faster and produce less lift, so you'll feel less pressure pushing upward than with larger wings.

  • @fritofried

    I am curious about your riding stance, specifically the staggered foot position. I consider you an advanced foiler so I am curious to know if you have tried the "inline" foot position and if that stance is purposeful or purely a preference. Thanks!

    • @mrjekarpa
      @mrjekarpa ปีที่แล้ว

      „I consider you an advanced foiler“ 😂 😂 😂

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes… When I ride boards I"m almost ALWAYS riding midline but this is NOT advisable on an eFoil BECAUSE if you ride midline, you are unable to choose which side of the board to eject from when taking evasive action. Unlike other boards, eFoils have a swords under them and you need to take great care to avoid landing on them. A staggered stance, give you the ability (or at least more likely ability) to pick the side. If you go down riding midline, you're going down on whichever side you started falling and in the case where you and mast fold on the same side, you are looking at a potential impaling, stab wounds,collapsed lungs, de-socketed eyeballs, etc.
      So I'm advanced enough to have studied the most likely ways to get injured riding an efoil and I've found that this stance and positioning provides more protection than all the helmets, railings, and concussion jackets I could buy.

    I really enjoy your channel and have learned a ton from your videos. I’ve been having a weird issue on my Lift Efoil and wondering if you’ve experienced this also. When you’re riding, do you ever lose signal, or feel the power cut off randomly? Maybe once in 10-20 sessions, I’ll be flying along and out of nowhere the board goes silent resulting in an instant faceplant wipeout. Does this ever happen to you?

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! The two main reasons for the mid-ride face-smacker powerless is 1. Controller Signal Loss / Power Interrupt 2. False Board Tipover Detection. I've found that I can reduce the likelyhood of #1 by making sure my controller is loaded with fresh batteries and cleaning the contacts really well when I change batteries. That reduces my face-smacking insta-stops down to about 1 smackdown per month. I've found that there is one area on my lake where I and my neighbor both have experienced an unusually high number of signal loss events. I'm guessing there is a neighbor using a signal disrupting wif-ibooster or perhaps a crashed UFO is near that area causing signal loss. We just avoid the area as it is in a little bay where eFoils don't fear to tread.
      I usually only get the False Board Tipover warning error when I'm doing stuff that's really erratic, like jumping the board or pulling off extreme banking shifts, like the kind where I gotta grab the rails just to stay on the board. I was able to reduce these by placing some wedges inside the board to keep the battery from shifting left and right when doing these maneuvers. I think that the slight gap on the sides of the battery caused the battery to slam into the sides of the compartment triggering the tipper sensors but this is just a guess. Either way, using two epoxy domed stickers (I had lying around from a corporate branding project) make my batter snug as a bug and I almost never see that tip over warning anymore.

    • @johnerickson2683
      @johnerickson2683 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad its not just me! Controller Signal Loss sounds like the culprit, because it usually isn't even when I am banking. It happens so fast, but I *think* I've glanced at my remote on the way down and see it with the lost signal screen. Thanks for the tips!@@VerdantRide

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To help me figure out what the issues were, I started wearing an action cam on my forearm so I could review the screen after an unexpected face-smacker. That's how I found the issues were specific and different. I recorded the "No Wifi" symbol, the "Upsidedown Board" issue, and then the 3 frames of "No Signal." The "No Signal" is usually followed up with the "No Wifi" signal as that is the symbol that shows on the screen when the remote starts up, and that leads me to believe it is a momentary power loss due to the batteries not providing consistent power to the controller. @@johnerickson2683

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, the only thing ramped was the intro flight into the course. Some of the shots with the Insta360 often look unnatural, I think due to the stabilization. This was also the first video I released in 60fps which sometimes looks kinda funky to me when things like spinning props are in the shot. I made sure that the timing clock overlay matches realtime so what you are seeing is what a half-mile course looks like to clear in under a minute.

    Why do you always use the same song in all your videos?

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I haven't used, "the same song," in all my videos but I have used it in all of my videos this season that have music. The reason 2023 is the year of, "Burn the Witch" by various artists is because someone commented that my taste in music sucks after releasing my first video of the summer. So I'm mostly doing it out of spite and malice for people who don't share my taste in music. I think I only have two versions of the song left to use, at which point I'll probably end this season of releasing videos at Verdant Ride :P

      If the timer is running it is.

    • @VerdantRide
      @VerdantRide 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I re-investigated this. The drone footage was shot in 60fps (frames per second) and the Insta 360 footage was shot in 29.97(fps). This usually isn't an issue but when trying to get accurate runtimes this unfortunate mismatch makes editing a bit of a challenge, In Premiere I made both a 60fps 1080p version, and a ~30fps 4k version and chose "Optical Flow" for my interpolation. I'm starting to wonder if this interpolation has altered the runtime/realtime issues.
      I checked the 29.97 version in Premiere and the timer is essentially the same when I cross the finish line except of course the needle is blurred because of the tweened in the skipped frame.
      I know that my best time ever recorded by a gate judge with a stop watch at the start/finish gate clocked in at 54 seconds (give or take the 10th of a second due to human thumbs are only so fast at reaction times).
      I certainly don't want to give the impression that I overclocked my video to make it look like I'm faster than I am. In all but one race last season (overheating issue with my Lift4 Pro took me out of my second run), I was undefeated in the half-mile course. I feel plenty fast as my times are often a minute or more faster than my closest rival.
      I know that this is only because I've got a faster board, wings, stabs, and propulsion system than most other riders and 1-2 more years more experience than most of the other riders. I also just have much more experience riding fast than most other riders. The trainers might actually spend more hours on the board than me per season but their time is spent going slow on massive wings and on their knees when training beginners. I on the other hand just race all the time. I assure you, as this sport grows, and younger riders with better knees enter the sport, I'll be headed for the JV bench where I belong. I'm ok with that.
