Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 - January 10, 1976), known as Howlin' Wolf, was a Chicago blues singer, guitarist, and harmonica player, originally from Mississippi. With a booming voice and imposing physical presence, he is one of the best-known Chicago blues artists. The musician and critic Cub Koda noted, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits." Producer Sam Phillips recalled, "When I heard Howlin' Wolf, I said, 'This is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies'". Several of his songs, including "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful", have become blues and blues rock standards. In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 54 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

I'm 70. When my singing is weak or shy I think of Howlin' Wolf and everything changes, including my singing.
shot of whiskey helps too...😊
@@RollerVol - yes it does unless you are 43 years sober and that shot would release every impulse which would likely get them killed but yes, it does.
"""2024 Who's still listening?

To all the sound critisizers..its a historic session! Be thankful! If you want the digital sound dont hear blues...go stream or whatever. Blues is a feeling, naked soul and tales of a sometimes hard life but this joyous sound is way better than all the polished mainstream music of today!
oh you are sooooooo correct.......these recordings,,,,,,,,,,timeless.......im from chicago......its a feeling yes...& if you play these recordings through a modern systems with auto de-coding
its simply Awesome......thanks for your post I'm right with you barely able to type with this playing!!!!
Okay boomer, whatever, I want my money back! Oh wait, I'm listening for free. I guess I'll just have to appreciate it. 🤣❤❤❤

Love the blues
What a night
I was in high school
Went to see BB King and Howlin Wolf at Ravinia , Wolf was a hollerin what a show. I remember during BB King’s set a girl ran up on stage and put a purple boa around BB King’s neck , Bb made a reference about Lucille and put it around her neck everyone was up on there feet jukin. My first guitar was a Les Paul jr after lovin my girl jammed all through the next day.
Howlin wolf is the Real thing. The mans music is so genuine, I lived what he sang. Without Howlin wolf there’s no Led Zeppelin there is no Rolling Stones and so many other great rock blues performers. Thank you so much for this☮️❤️
mmmm
Eric Clapton...
@@starshiptrooper7670 absolutely.how did I not mention Clapton
The British invasion introduced to alot of blues acts and brought them to the white audience in America.
Howling is sure enough dangerous.
Absolutely wonderful performance.
A true original. Big man, big voice, big heart.
I want to thank God for the Blues and the internet and the Bible!.
Amen! Me too and 12th St KCMO folk in the day!
Amen 🙏🏻
Back home sounds make me want to cry! Takes me all the way back to some deeply-felt Southern roots. Howlin Wolf is incredibly innovative and pure, holding on to the DNA of the enslaved Africans who crossed the oceans of the Atlantic holding within them the motherland's rich heritage, now the pain and suffering for which some feel to this day as moving throughout a journey of suffering here in America.
My goodness that was well said, seriously that was nice to read.
Man get out of here with that dumb ass shit. Wolf said he grew up in the woods with some white boys in an interview. Wolf couldn’t have given 2 shits about any of that. He was a man who stood on his own two feet and he’d be ashamed of what the world is today. Wolf wasn’t about any of that. He said in an interview that his own people try to drag him down and make each other fail. If you actually listened to Wolf and what he said, you wouldn’t have to slap a random cliche victim story on his back baby.
Happy New Year ☮️❤️🙏🏼💯 I can not identify, but my heart is truly filled with empathy and sorrow for the uncivilized suffering….. Your words are obviously from your soul… It’s a tragic part of History that will never be forgotten….. When the world becomes “truly” color blind is when there’s true equality. What better reparation is that.
@@stevetrivago You forgot to apologize for being white.

This is straight raw but it's all there. Some of that West side Chicago dirty, dirty soul. A thing of pure beauty...

Thank God for the Blues as they should be!
I love this guys voice. So unique. Also a great musician, guitar or harp, surrounded by other great musicians. Had never heard of him but watched Cadillac Records yesterday, and he has been playing in my house the last 24 hours, especially Smokestack Lightnin 🐺
Gold dust this. Heavy love to the OP.
Listening to this half a world away. Blues, raw blues is for everyone, everywhere.
I hear all the roots of today's blues bands -- but from the soul. Can't help myself....
How blue can you get!!!!! I love the Tail Dragger! Who ever put those thumbs down sho nuff has a hole in their soul!

2024 I'm 56 and I love the blues, Howling Wolf one of the greatest
BB is the king of the blues but the Wolf is the G.O.A.T. He was and remains the master blues man...
Right On! Right On! - What a joy! Head bobbin, toe tappin, desk drummin trip!
Howlin Wolf has more soul than any musician in my Generation Z 👍
Spot on blues it gets no better than this!!
My dad is 90 yrs old still with me on earth and he's a old South Georgia boy who grew up there through the mid 1930s to 1949 n was born in the blues so its in his blood/heart/soul and I can understand why. Well he like Mr Hollin Wolf ( Cadilac Records ).. Yes Hollin Wolf is a legend of the blues n have also help change the sound of music into different kinds of music especially when Jimi Hendrix took his styles n sound from the these Blues Legends n Hollin Wolf was one of if not the most important favorite one n he said it while being interviewed on fillmed n thats how I first heard about Hollin Wolf in 1991 when I was 15 yr old 🎸
Thanks for posting.......The blues.....the low down dirty blues.......the fuckin' blues
RIP Mr. Wolf
He is THE MAN, etched in my soul forever. I am 66 and first heard his music after he had passed. Haven’t been the same since. Still have an existential crush on this man.
Chester Arthur gracias ,maldita segregación lograste sacar lo mejor de la raza afroamericana
When we were young teens, our folks wondered what the hell made us think we were better judges of their music they listen too. Put some miles behind us, we finally grasp appreciation for a various kind of music, we just needed to listen to the "story" coming from the heart. Give those down voters time, they'll eventually grasp it too!
The title of the 2nd song is Don't Laugh At Me. The title of the 3rd song is Howling For My Darling. The title of the last song is Pop It To Me. Thanks for the upload !
I’m still listening 👍👍
this is something beyond great. from louisiana and on boats i the pnw.... what a joy to find this. thank you universe. cheers to all!
Je découvre cette belle voix, magnifique
(i m always happy if my recordings turn out to sound like this;-)
Spoonful is the first song I learned in 1969. I play it a few hundred times a year and it just gets better every time. Eric, dude, let's jam, my guitar playing is not fancy (usually).
Fijne Avond welterusten voor straks ..morgen gezond weer op..het belangrijkste in een mensenleven ❤🇳🇱🙏🌹👋😘
Howllin Wolf could really scream the Blues. When I Wake Up I'm Rockin to the Blues and I play it loud to make me feel good. Nothing like seeing great Blues bands Live N Loud close up to have a hell of a good time.
Absolutely
What a chillin piece of music!
Mr Chester brings it down son
A wolf in wolf’s clothing… pure magnificence.

Yeah the recording is raw but you can still hear the magic made that night.

Wolf did know to manage a band. A special hello for Hubert Sumlin Saw him once with Buddy Guy, and here I could hear how special, unique he was, when Buddy gave the best of himself, and you know what I talking about. Oh, Fred Below on drums, and a fantastic bass player. Was it a dream?
God bless you amigo, you dig it deep 🌻
14:00 What a great version of "Don't make fun of me"
I love this side of TH-cam ✨
theWOLF had his definate flavor of only his type of blues, love it
Theres a story here on TH-cam that said when ole Howlin' Wolf went to Chicago he stayed with ole Muddy Waters at his house. That would be interesting to hear about them times.
Brilliant. Thank you.
Blues is a feeling! Its one of his best live shows i heard, probably the best ever. Thanks a lot! And to the sound criticizers: Evry scratched vinyl worth about 2000$ do you the same way critisized if you had it? Or do you say : a rare gem?
I am loving this.
Pure gold

Best blues ever 💙
This whole thing is great, but it's a pleasant treat to hear Wolf doing "Pop It to Me" (his take on Syl Johnson's "Come on Sock It to Me") live - I always assumed that was just a trifle he recorded at Chess Records' behest in an attempt to break him in the rock/soul market.
This has the power to change your mooood. Gottaumn I la la loooove the blues

Real black Blues from the howlin wolf
Thanks for sharing. The audio leaves much to be desired, but what a historic recording!
awesome
Stop whining. 1969 is no year for crisp hi-fi live recordings. Add to that the total newness in electrified blues.
I unearthed a couple seconds of 16mm footage of Wolf in Chicago during a 1968 show. If anyone wants to see that lmk.
Please! It's so rare to see the Wolf in action
@@summerislander4672 I'll post it this Saturday :)

The commenters saying the audio is bad obviously haven't heard any Stooges bootlegs.
Or alot of early black sabbath bootlegs
Or the Zeppelin shows where they were out of time or the vocal was shot.
Why are they all in the same key? Did he only have one harmonica?
Wonder what happened at 45:50 Wolf seemed perturbed about something.
Howlin Wolf's, The constipation blue's.❤❤❤❤
It wouldn't be blues if it wasn't raw !

Hola!! ¿cómo se llama la canción que empieza a sonar en 14:00?
Probablemente es Don't Laugh at Nobody aunque en otras versiones la letra es distinta pero así suele suceder
yep. licks like that basically launched modern popular music
Does anyone know the source of this recording. It's obviously not Chess
what´s song is at minute 8:00 ?
Million Miles Away
Me.
rolling stone magazine sucks, used to be good
So Bob Dylan bought howlin wolf's rhythm section?
I mean band.
Paul Butterfield did back in 1964.
And I thought I knew 12 b blues
Like 475~
Can that be Otis Spann on piano?
It's either sunny and Slim or Detroit Junior
Chachipê😂
guitar is clear , vocals muffled .
it varies.
Sounds like Wolf's vocal mic is being overdriven a little.
Really hate these original stereo mixes where they were trying to be cute. If one of your channels was out you were fucked. Vocals get mixed like the bass, straight up the middle. Damn it.
now I can't unhear it
and that's a cryin' shame
