I have enjoyed this channel for a long time. This might be the best thing you've ever produced, and the kicker is that it's about something I have practically zero investment in.
In my opinion the DCEU was really good. I'm 55 who grew up watching Christopher Reeve as Superman. Then when I was 21 we got Tim Burton's Batman. The DC comics, TV shows, and movies has always been my favorite. I loved Smallville, and the Arrowverse, for me they were the best super heroes shows.. I've never really cared for Marvel comics. I like some of the tv shows like The Incredible Hulk, AGENTS of Shield and some others. It really saddens me that the DCEU didn't continue. Maybe I'm just getting to old for comics and the shows and movies.
Man Of Steel was an ok movie, with a great Superman, but a complete misunderstanding of the characters. If you're going to do a deconstruction, fine. But not with the 1st in an attempted cinematic universe. Only got worse with a gun-toting murderbat, despite liking Affleck. Tonal shifts back and forth didn't help. I like the Snyder Cut ok, and some parts of other projects (WW was still the best IMO), but RIP is only accurate if it means: Rot In Purgatory. Learn the lessons WB. And Gunn. And Snyder. And Marvel. Warner challenged themselves to do everything mistake possible. My favorite one is rushing to discard the Arrowverse and the animated universes and the people that worked in them. Only to give the whole thing to a man that doesn't understand the characters.
I know people have mixed feelings on Superman, but if the studio can’t understand and respect who that character is and execute that character, than there’s almost no chance this universe was going to work in the long run. The fact of the matter is that the DC universe is a spectrum of wildly different characters. There’s a lot of weird but iconic stuff in DC that can’t all be interpreted by one guy creatively. Zack Snyder got to determine the tone and creative approach of all the major characters and elements of the universe as opposed to Marvel who had a new director on each of the phase one characters and then let a new director bring them together.
I think Ryan is overlooking the themes of Man of Steel, the whole point of the scene where Clark's dad died trying to save the family dog, it was supposed to teach Clark what it means to be a real and virtuous man (put your life on the line to save others). Also, in Snyderverse, Superman and Evil Superman are just the same person but in the old Superman films, Evil Superman was a clone. And Ryan said Superman doesn't kill, but Evil Superman does. So in Man of Steel, Superman gets a taste of the dark side. Lois is the only key to keep Superman good.

What a great idea, to wrap a bow around this disjointed collection of good intentions. Throughout my comics-buying "career" my motto was always "Make Mine Marvel", but I loved having DC around and respected them as industry "O.G.s". As far as company dynamics, my attitude was "Viva La Difference." I had the same hope and attitude toward the movies. I didn't want the DC movies to "Echo" what the MCU was doing. I wanted to see a different approach. What they did over there was try too hard to explode a whole "universe" onto the screen; seemingly in a rush to catch up to, or surpass, the MCU cash cow. They did it in a hap-hazard way and got hap-hazard results. Wonder Woman was a good start, "Suicide Squad" is a metaphor for the entire thing. Recognizing that, I salute their efforts and thank them for trying.
While I agree that the DCEU was not executed well, did it really take you 41 minutes to do it? I love your deep dives into my favorite movies from sci-Fi and fantasy. But about half way through this one, it took on the tone of “let’s just find all the different ways we can rip on DC”. Not what I expect from you guys. I looked at your past comparison videos and almost all took half the run time or less to get the same info across. And, they did it in a way that wasn’t mean-spirited. This whole video just took on the flavor of 6th grade boys picking on the outcast. With the exception of the eulogy (which I loved!), it was very mean otherwise. Do better ScreenCrush…..
@@nathandts3401 Yes, yes it was . However if anyone tells you that Man of Steel was lifeless, they didn't clearly see the first flight scene. And in hindsight you can always go see Shazam! and see what colorful gets you.
When Superman died in Batman V Superman, I felt…nothing. I didn’t mourn his loss. I didn’t find myself hooked as to where the story can go next. I just felt nothing. That’s the moment when the DCEU lost me. If I don’t care about the outcome of their heaviest of heavy hitters, why would I care about anyone in this universe? By the by, everyone’s opinions on The Flash surprise me. That flick was an absolute hot mess of trainwreck upon trainwreck, and no Keaton in the world could fix that.
Like Adam, I have a personal connection to this universe. I saw BVS in theaters by myself a couple months after getting out of rehab. I never hated the Martha scene. Bruce’s trauma began when he lost his folks, felt totally powerless. Grew up lonely and isolated until boarding school, and in this universe he tells Alfred they’ve been fighting crime for 20 years. 20 years he controlled petty criminals, extortionists, gangs, gang leaders, mafia bosses, and super villains. One day Superman fights Zod and the power and invulnerability of the kryptonians triggers his childhood trauma, the Batmobile becomes a tank and he starts branding criminals. He’s trying to cope by doing what he did for 20 years but now to the extreme. He finally is given the tools to bring down Clark. (earlier we see Lex show how the kryptonite works by holding it to Zod’s body and the cells erode) When Bruce finally has Clark down holding the kryptonite to his head scrambling his brain, Clark desperately states his mission. Bruce is shocked at that name, LL shows up and explains. Snapping Bruce out of his triggered state and seeing Clark from a rational point of view. This is perfect because trauma affects the brain by not storing the traumatic event like a memory, it sits out there waiting to be triggered unleashing the feelings of and perceptually being sent back to that traumatic event. Changing perception or accepting the event can heal a person’s trauma. Sometimes immediately. IT’S NOT A LAME SCENE… You’re still my favorite RE!
I remember getting into an online argument in 2016 when the DCEU was getting started and we were seeing all these characters pop up immediately skipping any origin stories or universe building that the MCU had established as a successful formula. I was pointing out the folly of doing it this way but the logic of the DCEU fans seemed to be, "We don't want to be like Marvel! We want to do things differently!" 10 years later, here we are. Not to be the "I told you so," type but...
Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad were the best DCEU movies. Hell, they were the only DCEU movies that were good. No one will ever change my mind. *Shoutout to Peacemaker. The best DCEU show. Also the only DCEU show.
No it all ends why did Warner bros plan why😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😢.it was all Catch up to Marvel cash🤑 after Justice League I wish we had the Justice League endgame to Really end The Dceu Rip 2013-2023
Hope this “memorial” means SC never has to talk about the Snyderverse garbage dump again. Every episode of the animated Justice League & JL Unlimited was 100x better than the entire DCEU. Shoulda just put that creative team in charge of the live movies.
Way, way too long. I gave up halfway through. How many times can you say the same thing over and over? And do we need a constant army of people dragging out and diluting every point? This used to be fun, but now it's ridiculous saying why all these companies and properties are wrong while profiting off those same companies and properties with questionable merchandise. Merchandise that is now a focal point of every single video. Unsubscribe
Suicide Squad still is the worst super hero flick ever made. So badly edited to the point where most of the movie doesn't even make sense. A bunch of badly done music videos crammed into one overly bloated film with what is without question the worst version of the Joker in any film. Wonder Woman is pretty solid, Man Of Steel is amazingly done on a technical level and is fun once you go in with the right mind set. The rest, just stay away.
Whoever thought making Superman a dreary bummer was a good idea doomed the whole project. From Man of Steel onward, it was all downhill. Only Wonder Woman and Shazam escaped the slow motion self pitying slog of Snyderville
My hot take is I believe if there wasn’t as much negative coverage about Henry Cavill’s Justice League moustache, most of the movie going public wouldn’t have noticed.
I love this channel but this video.... I mean.. I feel like you guys are not into movies as much as you are comic books and I appreciate that. But my opinion on film is tainted.
Everything said about cyborg is so true, never been one of my favorite heros, but the way they did him dirty just to find he had some amazing story and character development is such a shame.

Day 8 of asking Ryan to cover/breakdown of the halo series on Paramount+. Please, Doug, make him do it.
Hell no lol
@@ChimichangoBoom hell YES
lmaooooooo not even 4 seconds and you got me laughing " Hello Friends.....enemies " 😂😂😂
Birds of Prey is what I saw with her. It was our only weekend together and it was right before the world closed down
The movie blows
I loved Man of Steel, specially its different tone from Marvel.
And that tone was grey.
@@nathandts3401 Yes, yes it was . However if anyone tells you that Man of Steel was lifeless, they didn't clearly see the first flight scene. And in hindsight you can always go see Shazam! and see what colorful gets you.
@@zeth609What “just colourful” gets you.
Superman calling his mother by her name to Batman was lame. Sorry.
@@zechrojas2202because…..?
@@RewMec226Because MCU does PTSD so much better just look at Winder Soldier /s 😂
We want to do things differently!"
10 years later, here we are.
You can add the MCU to this now after Majors being dropped
Lmao good luck with that
keep telling yourself that while everybody else enjoys the next ten years of the dead mcu!
MCU ain’t dead yet and it won’t be for a long time
finished this 40 minute video to support this channel. spoiler alert the bottomline of this is
"drum roll"
ZACH IS TRASH THAT KILLED DC CHARACTERS
Twin Perfect's amazing 3-part analysis videos on BvS are definitely worth checking out, guys. R.I.P. DCEU.
Can we all take a moment of silence for Harley Quinn's booty shorts in the first suicide squad... 🙏
HarrietHLE nailed the assignment.
