Its true! This song has some of the highest quality studio production values ever delivered "sounding" equivalent to Motown, without being Motown! Such a uniquely talented trio of female vocalists with a torcher you can listen to in loops for hours! Christ, they're on the same label as the Moody Blues! Those damn Brits and their music firsts!
Was working a Grammy Party at Chasen's, the party room was just filled with famous musicians and trying to slide through. I see Lou Reed walking in my direction and as he passes me I look at him and say, Now this is a Walk on The Wild Side. He was nice and agreed.. Afterwards, I felt it was a little corny! (RIP)
Kind of loses its grit by leaving out "colored" as the girls go... We have to say it out loud that David Bowie and Mick Ronson made Transformer what it was. That was a magical album, but it wouldn't have been without those two. Still love Lou, though.
The girls aren’t there to do the back up singing?! did you see the movie 20 feet from Starling?? if you haven’t watched it! But without the black back up singer there the meaning and the irony of the black back up singers is lost! In the movie, the singers talk about this. It’s a great movie. I want to see it again.!
Tend to agree with noanswer6059. Nowhere near as good as the original, which is not to suggest that the original is the be-all and end-all, but it’s the one we all know and the reason we love this song. Lou’s phrasing here is arbitrary and adds no significant nuances. Randomly spacing out the lyrics and then racing to crowd them in is not real creativity. The combined and contrasting sonorities of the two instruments is promising but never actually delivers on the promise. A really almost great rendition.
It took a lot of studio stuff to turn that song into music. Without it, it's just some irrelevant dude screeching in and out of some mystery key...bring on the colored girls going, " doot da doot..."

Gotta be PC. Can’t be real no more then and especially now
Underground
Semi acoustic I think. Lou is playing an electro acoustic and Fernando is definitely not playing an acoustic bass,! Good version though!
I don't think he was happy having to sing it this way. There was no put-down with the original words.
This explains a bit too much.
