Thinking about this war, I felt like crying. People were maimed, killed etc for their country. Why did leaders later betrayed the people to enrich themselves?

@@blessingmasawi3616 I know this battle that he is talking. About was called operation Miracle by a more honest and previous government called Rhodesia between 27 September-6 October 1979.
True gallant sons and daughters of the soil, you went ,you saw and trained and won a major battle at Mavhonde, no one can take that away from you, hence the saying that Zanla fought the most successful guerrilla war in modern history.💪🏿
This is work of great value to the history of the liberation struggle. Its good to hear fro the fighters themselves tell their lived experience of the war. Well done and thank you Corades.
It's difficult to tell whether somebody participated in the war of liberation or not, some people such as our sister telling the listeners that she used to order Zanla guerillas to "despatch /disperse" look very young to have participated in the war. A lot of people lie about their participation in the war. The problem with these lies is that they give a wrong distorted history.
You can't tell a person's age by just looking at them on a video. People age differently some look younger than their real age, and some look older than their age. Iam 100% certain that all these people being interviewed are real war veterans because the producers would certainly have verified before interviewing them.
Hello guys I agree it's very difficult, every Zanla cadres always narrate the battle of Mavhonde and Chimoi. It's more different from Zipra. Zipra will narrate their battles as if it is live. They will tell you that they were able to follow the enemy. Something is not narrated correct by Zanla cadres. In Matebeleland South the Zanla cadres came they were not effective they were always on the run.anyway we salute you guys for your participation on liberating Zimbabwe and it's Zimbabweans.
In terms of kill rate and given the resources employed, Op Miracle cannot objectively be considered a strategic success by Rhodesians. This does not mean it was a tactical defeat on the ground for the Rhodesian Security Forces. Far from it. Mavhonde, which contained at least 2,000 possibly up to 6,000 ZANLA, many in training, was attacked by a Rhodesian force of a mere 200 ground troops backed by force multiplying assets such as their Air Force, Armoured Cars and Artillery. This attack effectively forced large numbers of ZANLA to retreat from Mavhonde, some say in disarray, some say in a tactical withdrawal, more likely mix of both. There is a material amount of testimonial embellishment in the above YT production. Here are some real facts: only one of the 200 Rhodesian ground troops attacking Mavhonde was killed by ZANLA during Op Miracle: Selous Scout Tpr. Gert O'Neill, who was shot by ZANLA whilst clearing a trench. The Rhodesian Airforce lost two aircraft: a Hunter ground attack jet was shot down and its pilot Flight LT. B Gordon (No.1 Sqdn. RhAF) killed and a Canberra bomber jet and its pilots Flight Lt.s K. Peinke and J. Strydom (No.5 Sqdn. RhAf) also killed. Both crashed northwest of Mavhonde. No RhAF helicopters were shot down, immobilised on the ground or captured by ZANLA although some were hit by ground fire. The Rhodesians suffered less than ten injured by ZANLA. NO Rhodesians soldiers or airmen were captured by ZANLA during this raid. Further self-inflicted Rhodesian casualties did occur: Tpr. K. Mann, a signaller with the Selous Scouts died when an unexploded aircraft shell being used by a nearby fellow Selous Scout, Tpr. Vivian, to hammer a jammed mechanism on ZANLA heavy weapon actually exploded. Three others were wounded in the incident including Vivian who lost both hands. One RSF member was also injured by a RhAF airstrike. That was the factual limit of Rhodesian casualties. It was realistically assesed that ZANLA lost just over 80 fighters, with many hundreds wounded by the repetitive air strikes. Some revisionist Rhodesian historians claim without evidence, that many hundreds of ZANLA died. This is pure embellishment. No Rhodesian armoured cars were destroyed during Op Miracle. All returned to Rhodesia undamaged by ZANLA/FRELIMO fire. There was duel between these Rhodesian armoured cars and FRELIMO tanks after the latter had been forced to retreat to a safer location by a combination of Rhodesian air and artillary strikes. There is a spurious claim by one of the gunners of a Rhodesian armoured car that one of the FRELIMO tanks was hit once but this claim is unsubstantiated. It is likely a deflection from the fact that the Rhodesian armoured cars, primarily deployed to deter and Frelimo armoured response, never struck or destroyed any of that FRELIMO armour despite its presence in numbers.
There is no doubt that the RSF attack on Mavhonde, following on from the recent inconclusive attack on ZANLA's Mapai base proved to the Rhodesian Security Force Command that such camp raids were no longer viable on account of the lack of military assets, ammunition and troop numbers available to attack such camps and on account of the massive number on ZANLA now being encountered in such camps. It is also important to mention that ZANLA also had their Communist Bloc military advisors to thank for the effective design layout of defence structures at both camps, which undoubtedly saved many hundreds of ZANLA lives, something ZANLA has for some reason never acknowledged.
There is need to document the history of the armed struggle. The battle of Mavhonde was the climax of our war. My parents used to narrate to me the moving scenes at the battle of Mavhonde. May their souls rest in peace, they fought a good fight and liberated the country.
Yes another day indeed but a day that marked the first step to our freedom. After this battle it dawned in the Rhodesians minds that they were never going to win the war.
@@lovemorencube4268that day came when the rhodesians realized that the UK and MI6 had moles in rhodesia and were giving Mugabe info to keep him alive. Zimbabwe was not liberated it was hustled. The only free and fair election we had was 1980. Since then no election has been free and fair.

There's always 2 sides to a story. Interesting to hear from a different perspective. The victors usually get to re-write the history...
These are not victors, they are terrorists who were slaughtered by the dozen by Rhodesians.
