I’m not a ford man… that being said most of the ford guys I know don’t really rate the old cobra all the highly… however, I have abit of a soft spot for the thing. I see it as fords final farewell to the golden muscle car era.. plus it just looked so damn cool.. and what you have done with number 400 here.. priceless 👌 well done Howard and the team

Thanks mate, was good to do our first full resto

  • @cameronbroom2593
    @cameronbroom2593 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great video and insight into the work involved in this kind of resto. I fell that you’ve saved more than one car here! By that, I mean you’ve encouraged blokes who don’t know what’s involved, to leave their cars in one piece. If you’ve got a project and you really don’t have the skills or time, sell it to someone who does and go buy something that you can enjoy straight out of the box.

That was the best 1:58:22 I spent for ages. Loved every minute Howard, so please don't apologise for going over. There's no such thing mate. Make them as long as you need to. I'd still watch it even if it's 3 hours !
    Amazing build. Truly magnificent.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together and give a big thank you to Louise too, who I assume is still editing these videos. 👌👍

Hi Tony, yes Louise is doing an awesome job. 2 hours and 450 photos is a big edit especially 2 weeks in a row.😀

Don't apologise for the run time, if it is 4 hrs, 10 hrs or an hour, i will watch it. We as the viewers are privileged to be able to get such insight into these builds. There aren't many people who would dedicate the time to putting this together and show us the detail required to bringing cars up to the show standard. Keep up the great work, I look forward to this coming Friday for the next one.

Someone has probably already mentioned it below, but a correction. There were 400 all up, 200 351's and 200 302's.
I had #181 which was 351 auto, all electrics and aircon.
Love to know where it is now, last I heard it was in Ballarat Vic. I sold it in 1992.

Howard…I can assure you that that video was NOT too long 😉…in fact you could’ve made it 4 hours long and I still wouldn’t have a problem 👍…so please, please don’t worry about putting to much detail and letting the vid get to long because it’s the detail you go into that REALLY MAKES YOUR VIDS SO DAMN GOOD!👍👍👍👍

re the door SIBs (Side Intrusion Beam/Bar). I had an early XA ute which didn't have any. A later XA van which had the same SIB as an XB (thin and bonded to the skin) and a late XB ute which also had the same thick SIB as the XC's. I'm assuming that they are are a result of the build dates meshing with the ADR's covering SIB's which came about early to Mid 70's..The SIBs in the XC's were monsters compared to the ones found in late XA's and early XB's

Stunning video. I own Cobra 349 It 90% original. I have kept the original parts I have replaced. All hardtop owners are horders.
I went to school with the production manager at ford in the 80’s and 90’s When Ford announced the end of Hardtop production. The NSW police department ordered 200 XC 351 Hardtops. They were built after the Cobras. He said the only time the complete production line had the same specification car from start to finish.

Always loved your work since the first Rock Solid !
Unfortunately, the build numbers you quoted here are incoreect.
Apart from No.1, all cars up to No.200 were 351 c.i.
Also, a little know fact, after the Bathurst allotment, the next 10 ( approximately) were allocated to Highway Patrol.
I had the absolute joy and pleasure, also sibling rivalry, to get to wash 1 of the HWP cars as in the day, officers were allowed to take the car home if they were on the first shift in it the following day.
Thank you for all your amazing and inspiring projects over the years.

    Tx again Howard
    Very interesting ..
2 hours .. did not notice.
Was very interested in the order in which the paint was applied.. I notice somebody else commented too. Is this unique to the Cobra.
I was always under the assumption on the GTs the black was put on after... but painters hate to do that..For the reasons
    you mentioned ?
Given that I am a matt black kind of boy, rather than paint .. I was contemplating the "wrap" rather than paint. Sticker if you will.
    Be interested in your opinion.
Also.. what do you use to rejuvenate the plastics ? .. I did see a picture with some Mother product ?? But cannot find it again.

It’s interesting looking back on things and times gone by, around 1995 a red 351 manual XC GXL square headlight 4 door sedan turned up at my workshop for a new blue slip reregistration inspection, he had bought it for $50, it was straight and clean, but closer inspection revealed a need for 4 shock absorbers, complete exhaust replacement, front brake o’haul, brake master cylinder, new tyres and a few other odd jobs, he couldn’t afford all that.
So I disregarded all the account owed to that point, and gave him $100 dollars for it.
After fixing all those things I registered and used it for six months, then sold it for $1,000, that was an excellent profit back then, but it didn’t sell easily, the V8 was out of favour in those days.
Another one I wish I’d kept till now.

The only reason I was interested, it was a 351 GXL Fairmont and manual, possibly only a few dozen of them were manual, it would have been a very rare order I would think.

Not to be derogative but what is the astronomical value placed on these Cobras😮 My ex business partner and myself bought the two Ford Cobras that came to Wollongong dealers, me Byrt Ford & my ex partner Harrigan Ford. Mine was build number 180 don’t know Murrays number. Mine was a 351 auto with air con’ but I was super disappointed with its performance after my XA GT 351 four door. I swapped my wife’s Capri V6 GT to drive day to day and she loved it to go to Corrimal Whoolies. I am mystified why a great paint scheme can cause such adulation from the younger car enthusiasts?

Exept for #1, as said in the show. Back in the day my Ford mech was offered #351 as a part trade on his XYGT ute mock up, he said "no way" those things are worth f-all. Bumped into the car at the All Ford in Adelaide a few years ago, i think he nearly cried. Know the owners of 2 of the Option 97 cars, one i often sat in at the country footy in the Eighties and he still has it, was even fitted with one of those plastic Aunger bullbars. T

A coupe is correct . Technically the Falcon is a hardtop coupe . A hardtop is simply no B pillar , 4 doors can also be hardtops .
