I had the pleasure to work with Tony Jay once. Oh boy was he a character, well, many characters... When his humor came out, no one could keep a straight face. I got to ask him about the Legacy of Kain games. He found working on them to be quite fun, that he got to use his Shakespearean training, with a cast that shared a common sense of humor. As such it reminded him of his younger acting days. That was in 2004. RIP You marvelous man.
@@esmeraldadelatorre8676 Mr. Jay was a quiet person, not shy, but more like he preferred to listen to what others had to say. Very well read, fun to talk with, but when he had something to say, people listened. Very much a Older Brother or cheeky Grandfather type of personality.
*sigh* I wish I could of met Tony Jay before he passed away. That Baritone voice is the work of gods. Rest in Peace Tony Jay, you may have been underrated in the eyes of major communities and corporations, but you are loved by all that hear your amazing voice.
I love these "Behind the Scenes" looks. Modern games don't even cover this any more and, truly, it's sad. There was so much more humanity then in game than there appears to be now.
I recently saw a interview with Simon Templeman and talked about he worked with Tony in the theater, toured together on one play even, before Simon got into voice acting. So, I watch this and think of it as two long time friends shooting the shit at work. Great stuff! RIP Tony Jay. You are eternal to me.❤
It's genuinely fascinating watching two voice actors who not only work great together, while being great at their craft in their own style, but can have real fun moments as well while working. I'm glad they filmed these
Forever a classic video. All of the behind do scene LoK games are awesome. These voice actors deserve more love. Everyone involved was so... Awesome. Kain, Raziel, and obviously the Elder God... All amazing actors.
Tony Jay....what a great fucking voice!! Does anyone remember him doing the voice of Baron Mordo in the Spiderman animated series? Classic! Him along side John Vernon (Dr. Strange)!
One of the best series of games in terms of stories I have ever played. Christ it's been over 20 years now since I played the first one (Legacy of Kain) and it truly is too bad that we will never see how the story ends.
Tony had an AWESOME GIFT...!!! A TRULY diabolical voice when portraying evil characters. The Legacy of Kain video games were some of his best work in my honest opinion. I still have these games and play them. They are just that damn good.
Man, Im 33 years old and this whole series just brings so much nostalgia. The voiceovers and the well-crafted lines still echo. One of the most underrated games!
The story plot and complexity, the music the atmosphere the puzzles the genius voice acting and shakespearien conversations , all those crown this franchise as the greatest ever made.
In the Legacy of Kain series that is, however, he did do the voice of the Grim Reaper in the episode of Darkwing Duck titled "Dead Duck" (he doesn't talk until the second time he appears).
i love the way those voice actors interact to each other. its working and trial&error and casual chatting. you cant help but getting cheered up by their comradery
These two are some of the most talented VA’s in gaming history. Every time I hear their voice in a game and it’s not a main character, I wonder why they were not utilized more. Truly incredible actors.
Man, seeing these two legends having a blast is incredibly heartwarming. And to think that Kain was considered heartless, this clip ruins my immersion in the best possible way.
Well, basically, "Surgical Complications" means that during his heart surgury he had, his body just could'nt take it , and he passed away while they had him open on the table.
It's true: when someone you really care about dies, the world isn't the same without them there. I felt the same way about Rodney Dangerfield and Steve Irwin, who were two of my many favorite people. Tony Jay was someone I had in mind for voices in many of my future projects (assuming I made it as a director), and I was crushed to hear that he had passed away. He'll always be immortalized in the same way many great people are: through his vocal contributions.
Yeah, that whole "Cosmic balance" thing gave me a chuckle too! There are a few times in "Styx Feet Under" when he seems actually amazingly gentle. When he talks about death's part in life, his face seems to glow. And then when he says, "Your sister made a trade" he has a look on his face both amused and impressed. It was the first time I've seen Simon relatively relaxed.
I have been playing video games since 1991 and the legacy of kain series has to be possibly the best voice acting and story telling ever in the history of gaming totally forgiving the main issues with any of the games. It was one of those stories that you just had to experience regardless of any gameplay inconsistencies. Not many titles possess the substsnce and depth of the storyline as the legacy of Cain series.
Tony Jay is not dead. He exists in places we cannot find.
TheOneZytel he sounds like frollo voice
(Maybe because he voiced Frollo? 🙄)
Were all the best and legendary actors 😉?
😂😂😂
I wish I could find those places. :(
tony jay didnt die, he just switched to the spectral realm.
i honestly laughed at this one
heh. if only, right?
I was remembering his speach when Raziel fell, about the realms, and i read your comment. Cracked up a lil' bit xD
He can't die, he is the wheel, the engine of life itself. The endless cycle of death and rebirth.
johntrevy1 Hell yeah!
"False god. You have reached the end. The final turn of your wheel."
"...So what???"
Elder God, master of the Wheel of Fate, and not giving a shit.
I think he said "Say wha...?"
+Desmond theOrc
well... (tsk) nothing personal
These games had some of the best voice actors in history.
yeaa confirrm
Had the best dialog ever.
the voice acting and the epic story-line was leaps and bounds ahead of its era.
Toney Jay was the best, man.
I could never argue this
I miss Tony Jay. Seeing him playing around and bantering with Simon makes me smile.
Tony Jay's voice is music to my ears...
Or maybe a threat

Oh my god!! How was he what was he like? Did you have a good time what was it like?
@@esmeraldadelatorre8676 Mr. Jay was a quiet person, not shy, but more like he preferred to listen to what others had to say. Very well read, fun to talk with, but when he had something to say, people listened. Very much a Older Brother or cheeky Grandfather type of personality.
Holy crap. I had no idea Tony Jay could be so hilarious with his voice; I've mostly known him from his _pure evil_ roles.
He did Virgil from Mighty Max.
Frollo!
It's funny watching the guy who voiced Kain going "I cannot follow that." A once-in-a-generation set of voice talents, this series.
*sigh* I wish I could of met Tony Jay before he passed away. That Baritone voice is the work of gods. Rest in Peace Tony Jay, you may have been underrated in the eyes of major communities and corporations, but you are loved by all that hear your amazing voice.
Actually, Tony Jays voice was Bass, people often confuse Baritone with Bass.
@@JacobMKeeneAKADrPepperKing Dramatic Bass-Baritone indeed, but his vocal foundation is OUTSTANDING, SUPERB, & ONE of a KIND.
Legendary voices for a legendary game series
If I don't have Tony Jay's voice when I reach my 70s I'm going to be devastated. He's such a Legend!
I didn't know Magneto and Dr. Doom get along that well.
"How did you do that? That was amazing!"
I love actor who admire each other's work.
Holy shit, hearing Tony Jay and Simon Templeman put on a West Country accent is amazing!
I love these "Behind the Scenes" looks. Modern games don't even cover this any more and, truly, it's sad.
There was so much more humanity then in game than there appears to be now.
RIP Tony Jay, pratically perfect in everything
I still find it kind of funny that Kain's VA is younger than Raziel's.
How the hell does he make himself sound 10 years younger Simon though?
Who, Michael Bell? He's always had a very youthful, natural sound to his voice. Heck, Raziel is largely his natural tone, just with a slight accent.
Nostalgia Chan really? damn
I recently saw a interview with Simon Templeman and talked about he worked with Tony in the theater, toured together on one play even, before Simon got into voice acting. So, I watch this and think of it as two long time friends shooting the shit at work. Great stuff!
RIP Tony Jay. You are eternal to me.❤
Simon, Tony and Michael had the best voices in this series I reckon.
I'd love to meet Simon and Michael. Shame Tony died. R.I.P. Tony.
I hope Tony Jay is never recast, his dialogue should be remastered because nothing could ever replace the elder god himself
Tony: "This peculiar sensation is familiar to me..."
Simon: "That's because it's my line."
Tony Jay! Love that man, he’s brilliant! In my top 10 actors of all time and his voice is legendary! R.I.P Tony Jay, keep on being you.
If Tony Jay portrayed the Architect from The Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions.
Maybe the Elder God is not my favorite characer, but his voice and his voice actor are really impressive.
It's genuinely fascinating watching two voice actors who not only work great together, while being great at their craft in their own style, but can have real fun moments as well while working. I'm glad they filmed these
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THE ELDER GOD HAS LEFT US
ILL MISS HIM,a great actor with a great voice =,(
I've always wondered how in the world Simon gets through all his voice work. The man can't stay still.
Forever a classic video. All of the behind do scene LoK games are awesome. These voice actors deserve more love.
Everyone involved was so... Awesome. Kain, Raziel, and obviously the Elder God... All amazing actors.
Some know him as Megabyte, but he'll always be the Elder God to me.
Tony Jay's voice was pure ear porn
Tony Jay has one of those voices that will never possibly be replaced. All things are lesser for the loss.
Leave it to Tony Jay his deep voice is so mesmerizing and evil. It fits ALL of these parts with perfection.
As I went through adolescence I tried so hard to get a voice like Tony Jay :-D
The two voice acting legends, God it must be hard to be anyone else in that room.
Tony Jay....what a great fucking voice!! Does anyone remember him doing the voice of Baron Mordo in the Spiderman animated series? Classic! Him along side John Vernon (Dr. Strange)!
Also the voice of Megabyte from Reboot.
You can’t forget Frollo.
I remember.
Fantastic voice. Great Tony Jay
One of the best series of games in terms of stories I have ever played. Christ it's been over 20 years now since I played the first one (Legacy of Kain) and it truly is too bad that we will never see how the story ends.
2:14 That. Is. GOD.
Except Tony was real. God not so much.
Thanks, Mr Atheist.
@@pootisspencer5029 Yeah. No worries.
Tony had an AWESOME GIFT...!!! A TRULY diabolical voice when portraying evil characters. The Legacy of Kain video games were some of his best work in my honest opinion. I still have these games and play them. They are just that damn good.
R.I.P. Tony Jay,
Morgan Freeman may be known as the actor of god, but Tony was and always will be the voice actor of gods
Man, Im 33 years old and this whole series just brings so much nostalgia. The voiceovers and the well-crafted lines still echo. One of the most underrated games!
tony jay didnt die, hes everywhere , he´s turning the wheel
The story plot and complexity, the music the atmosphere the puzzles the genius voice acting and shakespearien conversations , all those crown this franchise as the greatest ever made.
RIP Tony Jay
This is such a great for me. As one of countless fans who grew up hearing these actors, it warms the heart to see their more human aspects.
Kresselack the black wolf! My childhood. Rest in peace, good man!
2 Fantastic beings right here...
God, Simon and Tony are just adorable when raffing off of each other.
coolest voice ever, RIP sir, u and ur unique voice will be missed!!
In the Legacy of Kain series that is, however, he did do the voice of the Grim Reaper in the episode of Darkwing Duck titled "Dead Duck" (he doesn't talk until the second time he appears).
I loved his voice along with Vincent price. Talented men they were.
We need another LoK game.
Not gonna happen :(
Square Enix chose Tomb Raider instead of LoK
God knows why...
HittokiriBattousai17 D'OHHHHH!!!!!
HittokiriBattousai17 Why? Sales man! Legacy of Kain didn't really made much money...
There is that F2P game Nosgoth.....if it's popular enough, they might revisit the franchise.
i love the way those voice actors interact to each other. its working and trial&error and casual chatting. you cant help but getting cheered up by their comradery
Frollo says "innit" a lot, doesn't he? OMG he's so British I love it XD (I'm British, too, BTW :P)
Tony, this is why we miss you. :)
I miss Tony Jay's voice...
I love Simon! And he looks like a vampire too! :)
Such a wonderful talent and voice. We miss you Tony!
Lol @ Simon. His 'Kain' voice is super ~serious and sinister but he's got such a cute, dorky laugh.
He held the Wheel of Fate by its' balls, now he is the one being held by it.
Rest in peace.
All that funny messing around then he drops that "It is not possible" like a true evil god
These two are some of the most talented VA’s in gaming history. Every time I hear their voice in a game and it’s not a main character, I wonder why they were not utilized more. Truly incredible actors.
I hope they both know what kind of impact their work had on whoever came upon these games. These guys are amazing
Man, seeing these two legends having a blast is incredibly heartwarming. And to think that Kain was considered heartless, this clip ruins my immersion in the best possible way.
since i was young ive always heard Simon's voice as sexy, really it is >.> it suits kain 100% maybe without him kain wouldnt be as good as he is
Damn right 😆🖤
We need a remastered collection of these games with all these outtakes & interviews included.
Well, basically, "Surgical Complications" means that during his heart surgury he had, his body just could'nt take it , and he passed away while they had him open on the table.
Tony's surgery was to remove a non-cancerous tumor from his lungs. He passed away due to complicatons approximately four months later.
Why is it that just as I get to know more of a great actor's work I find out they have passed away?
RIP Tony Jay, I wish I had a voice like yours.

Kain: *Epic monologue*
Tony “Squid God” Jay: ...say wot?
This warms my heart to see, thanks for sharing.
That's was a great job. The Actors of the Legacy of Kain was amazing. Elder God voice is very deep and fits well
played some of my favorite villains: Megabyte(Reboot), The Elder God(Legacy of Kain Series), and Minister Frolo (Hunchback of Notre Dame)
tony jay was also in samurai jack series 2 episode 20 as voice of the three monk.
These two and Patrick Stewart are my absolute favorite character voices. Wished i couldve worked with Tony.
Both voiced in X-Men Legends as Magneto and Charles Xavier.
he had an incredible voice, tony jay.
Tony Jay (Oracle) and Orson Welles ( Unicron) are two of the greatest. R.I.P. Legendary Actors.
I love Tony Jay! He's the man! RIP
This is amazing two of the finanist voice actors ever!
This warms my soul
i love how tony is encouraging simon to play around alittle with his voice
I love you Tony. Thanx for creating the Judge Frollo!
Yeah, that whole "Cosmic balance" thing gave me a chuckle too!

such a powerful voice
Tony jay taking off his headphones = BEST. MIC. DROP. EVER.
He loved his craft
Tony Jay was amazing
Tony Jay's final two roles in 2003 such as The Jungle Books 2 and Rugrats Go Wild.
If there will be a sequel to LOK, without Tony Jay's amazing voice as the Elder God, the serie will not be the same...
One of the all-time greatest voice actors ever... Tony Jay is right now in the moon with Chairface sippin on some Moet !!!
best voice acting ever in history
"when you loose your tentacle its all over.." so true XD
No, he died on October 10th 1985, and Transformers The Movie was released on August 8th 1986, so he died before it came out.
Tony Jay was simply one of the best ! I just see Megabyte when i listen to him :)
Rest in Peace, Tony.
I love Tony Jay as the voice of Frollo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame 🖤💜❤️🤍❤️🔥
