I agree with the Church of Hermetic Sciences in how they draw parallels between John Dee and Joseph Smith and geomantic symbols of the Urim and Thumim.
It is important that a magician doesn't merely invent mythology, but connects to a precedent.
I definitely side with the language use or use as language and faith in spiritual existences approach over faith in objects and mere methods.
