When I was 10 I opened a lock with a paperclip. I remember it was being sold as a high security lock. I just jammed the paperclip in there and it opened. lol

Some people are laughing about kids opening something with a rake, but as a kid I would stick a wavey plastic ripcord (from a spinning toy) into any lock I could reach. It popped all the door locks in the house. Kids don’t need actual lock picks to be able to rake a lock.
I kind of did that in thrid grade. Read popular mechanics article and went to the basement ground down some banding straps. Took and hr to learned how to pick padlock, deadbolt took couple days.. mouted it in a 2x6 and took it to school for show and tell. 😣

[Probably avoiding the battery-circuit to be used as a pathway for attack.] But if the battery compartment can only be accessed from the "inside", then you need a back-up key lock so you won't get locked out indefinitely when the batteries die.

The primary purpose of a trigger lock, for most people, is to keep their kids from getting to the gun. For that, I’d say it’s adequate. But I agree with your evaluation. And for $200 I’d certainly expect better quality.

I think this might have a use as a "locked firearm" (technically) in areas where you need to have a concealed handgun permit to not have it locked or "unavailable" in your car. Though I wouldn't bet on it in court since many states say that it shouldn't be "readily available" and demonstrating how it works in court would probably show it to be readily available.
CA for example requires a “locked container” and then gives a definition of what they mean by locked container. I believe it goes something like a durable container that has a pad, combination or key lock, also included is a vehicle trunk and does not include the glove or center console. So I do believe the stop box would be a good option for Californians as it technically has a combination lock and would satisfy that requirement.

But lock making company heavily rely on their product reliability and since there is no such a thing that is a lock that can't be picked at all (except purely electronic) an extra flaw search by someone that know his craft may attract more customers to improved product. If you look into LPL videos he actually did some tests onto locks sent by companies to him. Some use it as advertise and some to make improvements. It is pretty commom. His friend BosnianBill does the same.
Bad gun locks sell a lot better than good ones for a reason: people in certain states are required by law to buy them, so they intentionally buy the worst ones available.
I think he showed its design is as advertised. Not meant for security but preventing casual/quick access to children or unauthorized persons. Not meant as storage by itself. Like he said its pretty good but has room for improvement.

The Swedish homeguard made an interresting lock for us when we used to have our service weapons stored at home. It was placed inside the chamber of the G3 and only accessible with a 90degree key from the magasine steering. It was designed to get stuck and destroy the weapon if brute force was used from the pipe or from the back. As far as I know no one managed to pick it.... I would have loved to see you give that a try!

It wasn't a feature of the lock that it would get stuck and break the weapon. It was just so poorly designed that if you didn't treat it like a virgin girl, it would jam and you wouldn't be able to use the key to open it. You would have to either pick it or drill it out. That is, even with the key and being casually careful, you could actually jam it.

You could stick some felt tape above the fingerprint sensor, so that if your finger is wet you can dry it down in a hurry with a slight extra motion. Just an idea.
That is an interesting idea. Though you'd have to train yourself to build up muscle memory to wipe your finger. Otherwise, in a high-stress situation such as a home invasion, you could completely forget the felt pad is there. A person can also lose all of his or her fine motor skills when the adrenaline dumps. So I wonder if all of these movements are gross enough that the defender is not fumbling with the weapon.
@@bagnome I assume you'd practice shooting regularly, and keep the gun in this lock. If you lock it every time you're loading another mag or replacing a target, you're practising it at the same time as you're being especially safe. You'll have to replace the felt sometimes tho, because that stuff will get nasty over time.

I feel this lock is not meant to prevent intrusive people from access but more as something to prevent the trigger from getting hooked on something while storing. While keeping fast deployments in emergency
Aka.. a holster😂😂😂 they aren't just for carrying the sidearm so that you don't have to shove it in your waist band. They protect and cover the trigger so that it's impossible to accidentally pull the trigger. Important when carrying with 1 in the chamber and no safety like alot of popular sidearms are configured

Teens, especially teenage boys, take so many risks, even if they would normally know otherwise, when around other teens or their friends. I really don't think anyone under the age of 25 should be handling guns without supervision and this lock is not going to keep out a teenager who wants to shoot a gun for fun or to impress their friends.

When I was 10 I opened a lock with a paperclip. I remember it was being sold as a high security lock. I just jammed the paperclip in there and it opened. lol
Shoving a bit of thin metal in there and jiggling it around like you see them do on TV hardly requires a lot of intelligence. Proper tension seems less likely but doesn't sound entirely crazy since they're trying to get the lock to turn anyway.

Some people are laughing about kids opening something with a rake, but as a kid I would stick a wavey plastic ripcord (from a spinning toy) into any lock I could reach. It popped all the door locks in the house. Kids don’t need actual lock picks to be able to rake a lock.

I kind of did that in thrid grade. Read popular mechanics article and went to the basement ground down some banding straps. Took and hr to learned how to pick padlock, deadbolt took couple days.. mouted it in a 2x6 and took it to school for show and tell. 😣

A false sense of security that will just slow you down in a home defence situation if not probably malfunction or not open if something intrudes with its electrical functions. putting a backup key lock on it kinda defeats the propose of a finger print scanner. Can't pick a scanner, but boy is it easy to pick a regular lock.

Sadly the wet finger drawback is a common issue with most fingerprint sensors. I can never unlock my phone right out of the shower
All capacitive based FP sensor will have this issue, water will induce capacitive on the surface, so do your skin so the sensor can't distinguish it

I think this might have a use as a "locked firearm" (technically) in areas where you need to have a concealed handgun permit to not have it locked or "unavailable" in your car. Though I wouldn't bet on it in court since many states say that it shouldn't be "readily available" and demonstrating how it works in court would probably show it to be readily available.
CA for example requires a “locked container” and then gives a definition of what they mean by locked container. I believe it goes something like a durable container that has a pad, combination or key lock, also included is a vehicle trunk and does not include the glove or center console. So I do believe the stop box would be a good option for Californians as it technically has a combination lock and would satisfy that requirement.

If your gun lock gets undone by randomly shoving a thing up the lock and sliding it up and down, you need a better gun lock.
It's not a random thing. It's specifically designed to open locks. You can easily get into the vast majority of locks with one. It's called a rake and tension bar.
Besides. Your guns useless if it's locked. Don't give me that shit about your kids. Keep it on you or don't have one then at least not for home defense.

What about when somebody breaks in and uses your gun to commit a felony? Yeah... guess who gets in trouble for that one? Locks are not just 'nice to have' for guns, they're pretty much mandatory. If you can't manage to find a good compromise you should not have guns.

But lock making company heavily rely on their product reliability and since there is no such a thing that is a lock that can't be picked at all (except purely electronic) an extra flaw search by someone that know his craft may attract more customers to improved product. Many companies do that with other products, like drawing tablets, graphic cards, etc.

If you look into LPL videos he actually did some tests onto locks sent by companies to him. Some use it as advertise and some to make improvements. It is pretty commom. His friend BosnianBill does the same.

Bad gun locks sell a lot better than good ones for a reason: people in certain states are required by law to buy them, so they intentionally buy the worst ones available.

I think he showed its design is as advertised. Not meant for security but preventing casual/quick access to children or unauthorized persons. Not meant as storage by itself. Like he said its pretty good but has room for improvement.

@@m4rt1nDRK I can't argue against that. In my place of business I often need to take my CCW off for a few minutes. I need a "secure" place to put it during that time. This would do for that. I use a biometric gunvault safe attached to my work station even though Its not as quick to access if I need it, but then my workplace isnt exactly somewhere you want to go looking for a gun fight lol. Top level competitive shooters are often near by. hahaha

The Swedish homeguard made an interresting lock for us when we used to have our service weapons stored at home. It was placed inside the chamber of the G3 and only accessible with a 90degree key from the magasine steering. It was designed to get stuck and destroy the weapon if brute force was used from the pipe or from the back. As far as I know no one managed to pick it....

These days they are securely locked in at a very secure location in a very heavy safe. Like ridiculessly heavy, and with a key about 40 cm long and also very har d to pick because of that...
Seems pretty useless having your gun in a safe somewhere far off. Always loved the Nordic trend of servicemen keeping their rifles off duty. Do you guys have designated rendezvous locations to retrieve firepower in the event of a foreign invasion? Also how long of an estimate would you say on re-arming a sizable defense force? It wasn't a feature of the lock that it would get stuck and break the weapon. It was just so poorly designed that if you didn't treat it like a virgin girl, it would jam and you wouldn't be able to use the key to open it. You would have to either pick it or drill it out.
That is, even with the key and being casually careful, you could actually jam it.
"The company suggests to use the key but I haven't had a lot of luck with that", but he can pick a complex lock in 20 seconds...

It almost seems like this lock would be defeated by one or two hard swats with a carpenter's hammer. (Very much like your average padlock.)
You could literally pry it off with a screwdriver.
You could stick some felt tape above the fingerprint sensor, so that if your finger is wet you can dry it down in a hurry with a slight extra motion.
Just an idea.
That is an interesting idea. Though you'd have to train yourself to build up muscle memory to wipe your finger. Otherwise, in a high-stress situation such as a home invasion, you could completely forget the felt pad is there. A person can also lose all of his or her fine motor skills when the adrenaline dumps. So I wonder if all of these movements are gross enough that the defender is not fumbling with the weapon.
@@bagnome I assume you'd practice shooting regularly, and keep the gun in this lock. If you lock it every time you're loading another mag or replacing a target, you're practising it at the same time as you're being especially safe. You'll have to replace the felt sometimes tho, because that stuff will get nasty over time.

This lock really is the best compromise, unless someone can get a safe lock that's as fast, as safe, but more reliable than this.
@@phil2782 The third alternative would be to solve the issue like in any other civilized country and simply not kill the burglar? Call the police and hit the guy with a frying pan. Works well enough. And even if he has a gun, surrendering to him and waiting for the police to save you is safer than a shootout.

I feel this lock is not meant to prevent intrusive people from access but more as something to prevent the trigger from getting hooked on something while storing. While keeping fast deployments in emergency
i know nothing about arms and i never owned a gun, but i think a gun holster can do a much better job.
Aka.. a holster😂😂😂 they aren't just for carrying the sidearm so that you don't have to shove it in your waist band. They protect and cover the trigger so that it's impossible to accidentally pull the trigger. Important when carrying with 1 in the chamber and no safety like alot of popular sidearms are configured

I mean have you ever met a teenager? Smart enough to open locks by copying what's shown on TV, dumb enough to fuck around with guns while with their friends. Teens, especially teenage boys, take so many risks, even if they would normally know otherwise, when around other teens or their friends. I really don't think anyone under the age of 25 should be handling guns without supervision and this lock is not going to keep out a teenager who wants to shoot a gun for fun or to impress their friends.

on the other hand, this lock isn't meant to keep people with lockpicks out, it's just meant as an extra safety feature so that kids or just other people in general, cannot easily reach the gun's triggering mechanism.
