just wondering, do many people speak english there? because me and a friend would like to visit but we both only speak english. would we still be able to get by?
Yes you will be fine with just english! Everyone in restaurants, bars and museums I found was able to take orders and understand English. Enjoy your trip? Are you going to just Sarajevo? 🇧🇦
@@TravellingWithCon okay thanks that helps a lot! I was thinking of setting up camp in sarajevo but wanted to take a train to Mostar to visit the old bridge and other attractions. I was also thinking of going to kravica falls and boracko lake. thoughts on any other nice natural beauty areas to visit?
@@cassian7862 How nice! Yes I think Sarajevo would probably be best to set up, and definitely take the trip to Mostar! It’s a lovely town and the Bosnian countryside is stunning! Unfortunately I didn’t really do any nature stuff, I just did Sarajevo and Mostar, so I can’t help out too much with that 😭 but I’d definitely recommend some more nature activities because the landscape of the country is beautiful indeed! 🇧🇦
@@TravellingWithCon okay fair enough, yeah its definitely on my check list to do. just wondering as I'm from England what steps do I need to take to actually get to Bosnia? Do I need a visa or anything like that? Id just be going for a week or so
Don't worry about English here. Most grew up watching American movies, shows and listening to American music, be it hip hop or rock 😅. And ofc at the places like restaurants and tourist spots they are used to tourists and do speak English. We have a lot of tourists from other European countries and from East Asia. None of them speak Bosnian or Croatian so the only language left is English. But outside of tourist spots in regular coffee shops and restaurants there may be some servers who don't speak English, especially if they are older. Here during Yugoslavia, the second language taught at schools was Russian, only after the war schools started teaching English because of the American influence in war and in general. So 1990's and above generations all should speak well English, I would argue that a lot of 80's generation would be able to speak English just fine too.
Oh really? That’s a shame. To be honest I didn’t notice, I walked from the bus station to the centre but otherwise never ventured out of the non-touristic parts

Unfortunately, the non-touristic parts (even in Mostar) are full of garbage. So sad to see.
