An immaculate Houston sports and science museum. Which showcases the impact of athletes/sports on the city of Houston, as well as the development of technology across generations. All while incorporating the cosmic discoveries from NASA 🚀💫
I would love to see the Astrodome turned into a new and much bigger Space Center Houston. Since we didn't get any of the retired Space shuttles, we could build mock-ups and memorials dedicated to both Challenger and Columbia. IIMAX Theater, Science display, etc. All the space vehicles at NASA now could easily fit into the dome. A huge visual screen like the "globe" in Vegas, that would be an amazing tribute!
@@davidbryant3532 Houston really didn't get any of the retired space shuttles. All we got is that fake replica outside the space center. We do have that Saturn 5 rocket, but it's no longer free to visit.
@@davidbryant3532 Yep, NO shuttles for Houston, at least the ones that were actually in service and went to space. Still mad about that. Discovery went to Viginia at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Endeavor went to the California Science Museum, and Atlantis went to Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Thats why I say let's rebuild Challenger and Columbia and display them as memorials for our lost patriots at the Astrodome {New Space Center Houston.)
Keep The Astrodome Alive so new generations can see this magnificent giant stadium that started it all. So many memories of the Astrodome can be shared to let future generations can learn history of the Astrodome, like many famous singers perform there, WrestleMania 17, Boxing, tennis, basketball, football, rodeo, Astros, Houston Oilers, and more.
Seattle's NHL arena was a rebuild of the former NBA basketball arena, which was a rebuild of an earlier arena, which was a rebuild of a World's Fair pavilion. Their dome became an outdoor football stadium.
they should just renovate it and keep it as it is to host concerts and other events like The Forum in LA. but the Astrodome could draw bigger crowds because a lot of people from different places want to visit it.
I think turning it into a super-sized convention space and performance venue would be best. The GRB Center is big, but the astrodome can offer a massive floor space for shows that do larger items, like classic cars or boats. The levels of the building behind the seating are good for "artist alley" kind of vendors. It can be used to host things like the Texas State Marching Band contests or Bands of America or Drum Corps International. It can be used as a space for the county's many MANY high school football/baseball/soccer teams to compete in a county-only tournament. It can be used. It really can, but the longer we wait and dither about, the more expensive the renovations will become.
Indoor waterpark with restaurants and after party venue for anything that goes on next-door even the rodeo, my stepfather actually help the construction of it and seen someone fall off the top and die during the construction of it
The Astrodome sits next to NRG Stadium. That changes the narrative. It looks out of place in that context. Respecting the many memories of the Dome, it's a cultural nostalgic piece at this point. It's just taking up physical space. It occupies a more valuable position in people's hearts.
It should host the Texas High School football championship game and a neutral site for college football if Huston renovates it probably $1 Billion Dollars if Huston has the money to do it.😊❤
Are they still looking for a home for the Battleship Texas? That would certainly keep it out of the elements. There might even be some laid off NASA Engineers willing to figure out how to get it in there.
Hub Houston. Where mid to small multi use venue for off season use encompassing the Houston attractions such as NASA, artist and athletes and figures of local importance are showcased.
@@SOLDOZER but that's the whole point of a theme park? Someplace kids and fun adults can go to so they don't destroy malls. I mean, you can stay home if you don't want it.
I think it should be turned into an NHL arena for when Houston gets the NHL here and renovate it to an NHL arena and call it the the Astro Arena or Whata-center or the Whataburger Arena or the Whata-Arena.
Tear it down, the citizens voted to do that. Make it some kind of parking garage with a homage to the original structure. If this happens it gives more space for tailgating.
Look...whether you like it or not it is a historical landmark and rightfully it is designated as such. first engineered dome enclosed sporting facility in the world. First dome structure to pass the Pantheon in size almost 2000 years later. The Astrodome paved the way for all future dome structures in the world. We as a society should not be throwing away historical significance. Think of it as our modern achievement of the Roman Coliseum with the Pantheon's dome covering it. It is a historical design made to last a minimum of 250-years. It is worth preserving and being repurposed.
Parking garage? Better to invest in mass transit that encourages park and ride. Tailgating? Raise the Astrodome floor, add some huge video screens and PRESTO a large covered A/C multipurposed floor with below floor staging area for floor events...damn only if the Romans would have invented this. That alone would draw multiple renters...let's see...HLSR, NFL (Texans & Super Bowl...how about a permanent home for the Pro Bowl), TMC, Harris County...even the city of Houston...Hell if I had $$$, I would rent it and invite the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for an indoor campout and jamboree (maybe the GS will give me some free cookies). Thinking outside the box in a domed structure sure does (8th) wonders in this world.

Make it a gladiator fighting ring for Texas inmates. Allow gambling. 2 men enter, 1 man leaves. They both get to choose 1 weapon. Houston makes gambling revenue and the criminal population gets lowered. Win-win.
Legalize gambling and make it a hotel/casino. Would make it money back in a year.
